NFL Week 17 SU Betting Picks

Written by on December 26, 2018

This weekend represents the final week of the NFL season, and with playoff spots still up for grabs, it could well prove to be a big one. While there are a few games with playoff implications, there are several more that feature teams with nothing to play for, with those games often being the toughest to handicap, no matter what the NFL Week 17 odds are.

We are going to jump right in to see if we can pick out some winners for the final week of the regular season. We will get started by making some SU picks here, but we will also have a couple of articles where we look at ATS and O/U picks, so be on the lookout for those.

NFL Week 17 SU Picks

Houston Texans over Jacksonville Jaguars

One team that may be undergoing a bit of an overhaul in the offseason is the Jacksonville Jaguars. They were within a single play of being in the Super Bowl last season, but they have failed miserably, especially on the offensive side of the football, this year.

There are no such problems for the Texans, though, as they have already booked their place in the postseason, albeit settling for a spot outside of the top two. You never want to end the regular season on a losing skid, so look for the Texans to win this one and avoid losing back to back games.

Latest NFL Week 17 Betting Trends

  • Jacksonville is 2-9 SU in its last 11 games
  • Jacksonville is 2-7 SU in its last 9 games when playing Houston
  • Houston is 10-2 SU in its last 12 game
  • Houston is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games at home

Atlanta Falcons over Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Atlanta Falcons are another team that came up good way short of what was expected of them. Yes, they had a ton of injuries on the defensive side of the football, but their high-powered offense failed to take flight far too often.

They are finishing the season on the right foot, though, winning back to back games over the last two weeks, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are heading in the opposite direction, losing 3 in a row as they go into the final week of the season. I think the Falcons win this one quite comfortably.

Latest NFL Week 17 Betting Trends

  • Atlanta is 2-5 SU in its last 7 games
  • Atlanta is 2-6 SU in its last 8 games on the road
  • Tampa Bay is 2-7 SU in its last 9 games
  • Tampa Bay is 2-4 SU in its last 6 games when playing at home against Atlanta

Buffalo Bills over Miami Dolphins

For a moment, the Miami Dolphins looked to be alive and well in the playoff race, pulling off a dramatic win over the New England Patriots that was quickly dubbed “The Miami Miracle.”

The Dolphins are not favorites to beat the Bills in NFL Week 17.

Rather than taking the momentum from that win and running with it, the Dolphins instead went out and lost their next two games, taking themselves out of the Wild Card race in the process. It is a disappointing end to a season that started with some real promise, and it now looks as though Miami is limping to the finish line. Buffalo has already lost to Miami this season, but that was a close one that came on the road. I think they might just exact some revenge here.

Latest NFL Week 17 Betting Trends

  • Miami is 2-4 SU in its last 6 games
  • Miami is 0-5 SU in its last 5 games on the road
  • Buffalo is 3-7 SU in its last 10 games
  • Buffalo is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games when playing at home against Miami

Cleveland Browns over Baltimore Ravens

This is one of the most important games on the Week 17 schedule, as it’s the one that will determine the playoff fate of the Baltimore Ravens.

The task is straightforward enough for Baltimore, as they already know that a win would get them in and keep the Pittsburgh Steelers out. Seeing the Cleveland Browns as your opponent in a must-win game used to be great, but this is a very different Cleveland. They finally seem to have landed a franchise QB, and they are coming into this one on a 3-game win streak. This is definitely a risky bet, but it’s one worth taking.

Latest NFL Week 17 Betting Trends

  • Cleveland is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games
  • Cleveland is 2-23 SU in its last 25 games on the road
  • Baltimore is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games
  • Baltimore is 18-3 SU in its last 21 games when playing Cleveland
