NFL Week 3 Expert Analysis & Top SU Picks

Written by on September 17, 2018

The Monday night game between the Seahawks and Bears will signal the end of NFL Week 2 of the season, with a number of surprises already in the book. We saw the Chiefs emerge as a legitimate playoff contender this weekend, while we also saw the Patriots go down to the Jaguars in a rematch of the AFC Championship Game from last season. It’s a little too early to start picking overall winners and losers, but it’s never too early to look ahead to check the NFL Week 3 Odds and see if we can pick out some SU winners.

NFL Week 3 Expert Analysis & Top SU Picks

Minnesota Vikings over Buffalo Bills

I think it’s more than fair to suggest that the Bills are an absolute mess. They have been horrible through the opening two weeks of the season, and they had a player officially retire at halftime on Sunday. Things are about to go from bad to worse for the Bills this coming weekend, as they need to go against a Minnesota Vikings team sure to still be smarting after tying their big rivals, the Green Bay Packers. The Vikings could well cover the 16 ½ point spread here, but I am going the safer route and taking them SU on a parlay ticket.

  • Buffalo is 2-6 SU in its last 8 games on the road
  • Minnesota is 13-2-1 SU in its last 16 games
  • Minnesota is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games at home

Carolina Panthers over Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals are one of the more surprising 2-0 teams to start the year, but you get the definite sense that they are going to return to earth sooner rather than later. That may come this weekend on the road to the Carolina Panthers, who are at 1-1 and coming off a tight loss to a division rival. The Panthers have been a little up and down to start the year, but are always tough to beat in their own building. This one may stay close for a while, but I believe that the Panthers will pull away late and get the win.

  • Cincinnati is 5-11 SU in its last 16 games on the road
  • Carolina is 8-4 SU in its last 12 games
  • Carolina is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games at home

Houston Texans over New York Giants

It’s desperation time for both of these teams, as they are both coming into Week 3 looking for their first win of the season. The Texans let one slip over the weekend, losing by 3 points to the Tennessee Titans, while the Giants offense continues to struggle. The Texans should be one of your NFL Week 3 Picks. The bright spot for the Giants has been the play of rookie RB Saquon Barkley, but he is fighting a bit of a lone battle on that offensive unit. If I have to choose between Eli Manning and DeShaun Watson to make a play that could change this game, my money would be on Watson, which is why my money is on the Texans.

  • NY Giants is 1-7 SU in its last 8 games
  • NY Giants is 0-5 SU in its last 5 games on the road
  • Houston is 0-5 SU in its last 5 games
  • Houston is 15-8 SU in its last 23 games at home

New England Patriots over Detroit Lions

We all thought that it was going to be a bit of a struggle for the Lions this season in the loaded NFC North, and it is certainly playing out that way. The Lions are winless through their opening two games and now have to face a New England Patriots team that is coming in off a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. You don’t very often see this Patriots team lose back to back games, which is why they would appear to be a very good SU pick this coming weekend.

  • New England is 16-2 SU in its last 18 games on the road
