2018 NFL Wild Card Round Betting Predictions

Written by on December 31, 2018

The NFL regular season is now a thing of the past, as we now need to look forward to the postseason. The playoffs will commence this weekend with 4 Wild Card games split between Saturday and Sunday. The winner of these games will move onto the Divisional Round, which is where the top teams in each conference will enter the fray after sitting out this weekend. The match-ups this weekend seem to be quite even, which makes handicapping these games so tough. What we are going to do here is take a quick look at all the games and make an SU NFL Wild Card betting pick for each, so let’s get right to it.

2018 NFL Wild Card Round Betting Predictions

Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans

What we have here are a pair of teams that should be very familiar with one another given that they both play in the AFC South. It was the Texans who won that division, finishing a game better off than the Colts. That said, both teams finished the season strong after getting off to horribly slow starts, so both are in very good form.

The Colts had a playoff type game on Sunday night, as they needed to beat the Titans to get in, which they did comfortably. The danger now is that there might be a bit of a letdown after that one, and while I’m not so sure that’s what will happen, I am still on Houston to win.

Latest NFL Betting Trends

  • Houston is 27-13 ATS in home games revenging a loss against opponent since 1992
  • Houston is 1-8 ATS when playing against a team with a winning record in the second half of the season over the last 3 seasons
  • Indianapolis is 3-2 against the spread versus Houston over the last 3 seasons
  • Houston is 3-3 straight up against Indianapolis over the last 3 seasons
  • 4 of 6 games in this series have gone Under the Total over the last 3 seasons

Seattle Seahawks at Dallas Cowboys

These two might be considered something of a surprise package, as neither team was really expected to be in the postseason. The Seahawks play a tough, defensive style of football that relies heavily on the run game when they have the ball.

The Cowboys, on the other hand, have a balanced attack that has really come to life since the arrival of Amari Cooper, a move that totally turned the Cowboys season around. I expect this to be a close one, with the slight edge going to the Cowboys in their own building, with an FG win the most likely outcome.

Latest NFL Betting Trends

  • Seattle is 2-0 against the spread versus Dallas over the last 3 seasons
  • Seattle is 2-0 straight up against Dallas over the last 3 seasons
  • 2 of 2 games in this series have gone Under the Total over the last 3 seasons

LA Chargers at Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens got into the postseason by winning the AFC North, but they did so by the skin of their teeth, holding off a Browns team on a drive that could have won them the game and eliminated the Ravens.

The Ravens should be one of your 2018 NFL Wild Card Round Betting Picks.

That defensive stand is typical of what we got to see from Baltimore this season, with one of their best performances of the season coming in Week 16 when they went into LA and took down the Chargers 22-10. I don’t think we are going to see these two separated by that many points this weekend, but I do think the outcome will be the same, with the Ravens getting the win.

Latest NFL Betting Trends

  • LA is 37-18 ATS in road games when playing against a team with a winning record in the second half of the season since 1992
  • LA is 92-64 ATS (+21.6 Units) in all games where the total is between 35.5 and 42 points since 1992
  • Baltimore is 1-0 against the spread versus LA CHARGERS over the last 3 seasons
  • Baltimore is 1-0 straight up against LA CHARGERS over the last 3 seasons
  • 1 of 1 game in this series have gone UNDER THE TOTAL over the last 3 seasons

Philadelphia Eagles at Chicago Bears

In the NFC, everyone is talking about the Saints and the Rams, but I think it’s time we started adding the Chicago Bears to the conversation. All they did was put together a 12-4 record that included a run where they won 9 of their last 10 games.

They will have a tough go of it against an Eagles team that is getting hot at just the right time, although they did need some help from the Bears, who beat the Vikings, in the final week of the season in order to get in. I don’t see Philly getting any help from that Bears D this weekend, which is why I am on Chicago to win.

Latest NFL Betting Trends

  • Chicago is 10-2 ATS when playing with 6 or fewer days rest this season
  • Chicago is 9-2 ATS in games played on a grass field this season
  • Philadelphia is 75-52 ATS in road games in games played on a grass field since 1992
  • Philadelphia is 2-0 straight up against Chicago over the last 3 seasons
  • 1 of 1 game in this series have gone Under the Total over the last 3 seasons
