2019 NFL Week 8 Parlay Betting Picks

Cincinnati Bengals vs. LA Rams (-13)

This game is in London — the Rams are staying in Atlanta before they travel Thursday to the UK.

Is it time for the winless Bengals to bench quarterback Andy Dalton for rookie Ryan Finley? Dalton completed 22-of-43 passes for 276 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions while also adding four rushes for 33 yards and another touchdown Sunday in the Bengals’ loss to the Jaguars. Dalton was dropped for two sacks (though it felt like 100), resulting in a loss of 18 yards.

The Bengals held a fourth-quarter lead in this game, only to have Dalton squander it as he was intercepted three times in a span of four passes at one point. His first interception was what offensive coordinator Brian Callahan called the most critical mistake of the game, as it came on a first down at the Jaguars’ 15-yard line right after the Jaguars went up 17-10 with 12:45 left. The second interception, which turned into a pick-six, came on a screen play the Jaguars sniffed out.

Dalton finished with a season-low quarterback rating of 50.1. His completion percentage of 51.16 also was his worst performance of the year. Cincinnati Bengals first-year head coach Zac Taylor said immediately after his team’s 27-17 loss to the Jaguars that he isn’t ready to consider benching Dalton for Finley. But Taylor could always change his mind or make the move during the game.

What about the Rams?

The Rams stopped a three-game skid with an easy victory in Atlanta on Sunday. Todd Gurley rushed 18 times for 41 yards in the Rams’ Week 7 win over the Falcons, adding a 13-yard touchdown reception in his return from injury.

Five days after the Rams completed a blockbuster trade for Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey, the All-Pro cornerback kept Atlanta Falcons receiver Julio Jones in check in the 37-10 victory. The defense smothered quarterback Matt Ryan, sacking him five times, and held the Falcons to 38 rushing yards and 224 total yards.

Green Bay Packers at Kansas City Chiefs (+4)

Aaron Rodgers is a two-time NFL MVP and Patrick Mahomes is the reigning league MVP. The two have never faced off as professionals. They were set to here but Mahomes will miss at least this week with a dislocated kneecap suffered in last Thursday’s win in Denver. Because the Packers and Chiefs aren’t scheduled to meet in the regular season again for four years, it’s possible that Rodgers and Mahomes never face one another unless it’s in the Super Bowl.

Coach Andy Reid said it would be a “stretch” for Mahomes to play in this one. Reid otherwise wouldn’t give a timetable for Mahomes’ return. Mahomes dislocated the patella in his right knee last Thursday. Trainer Rick Burkholder said Mahomes’ MRI “turned out as good as we could possibly imagine.” He said Mahomes has spent the weekend at the Chiefs’ practice facility.

Matt Moore gets the start – he completed 10 of 19 passes for 117 yards, including a 57-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill in relief of Mahomes vs. Denver. Moore didn’t even have the benefit of a training camp or a preseason with the Chiefs. He arrived in late August after the Chiefs lost their other veteran backup quarterback, Chad Henne, to a broken ankle. Moore was out of football last season.

What about the Packers?

Rodgers comes off the best game of his NFL career, passing for 429 yards with five touchdowns, including the 350th of his career, and no interceptions for a 158.3 rating, the highest attainable mark, and added a rushing touchdown in the Packers’ 42-24 win over Oakland. Appearing in his 172nd career game, Rodgers surpassed Drew Brees (180 games) as the fastest quarterback to reach 350 career touchdown passes in NFL history.

The Packers are favorites against the Chiefs in NFL Week 8.

Rodgers is the third player with at least 400 passing yards, five touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown in a single game in NFL history, joining Pro Football Hall of Famer Norm Van Brocklin (Week 1, 1951) and Mark Rypien (Week 11, 1991). He is also the third player in the Super Bowl era with five passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in a single game, joining Rypien and Mark Malone (Week 1, 1985). Rodgers now has 22 career games with at least four touchdown passes, surpassing Dan Marino (21 games) for the fifth-most such games in NFL history.

It will be the 12th regular-season game between the Packers and Chiefs, but the first Sunday night matchup between the two. Green Bay has won two of the last three games against Kansas City.
