The Houston Texans may be coming off of what looks like a dismal 4-12 campaign from a year ago, but in reality, there’s plenty of reason to believe that the AFC South residents could turn into one of the top Super Bowl contenders in either conference in 2018.
Houston lost a handful of defensive starters to season-ending injuries in 2017, including superstar defensive end J.J. Watt, the former Defensive Player of the Year. Not only that, but the Texans also found out they had a true star on their hands in rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson – before they lost their prized first-year performer to his own season-ending ACL tear.
Now however, with Watson, Watt and the rest of the Texans injury-ravaged core group of players set to return heading into 2018, Houston looks like a team capable of beating just about anyone. With that said, NFL betting enthusiasts everywhere should know that there are a bunch of games on Houston’s 2018 schedule that have the look and feel of must-see, must-bet matchups that you just shouldn’t miss this coming season.
Let’s take a look at those contests right now.

Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 9, at New England Patriots, 1 PM ET
The Texans will kick off their 2018 campaign with a difficult road date against the defending AFC champion Patriots, but if you remember last season’s meeting between these two teams, you should be expecting another Instant Classic in this one. In Week 3 last season, Watson showed the world that he was a star in the making by passing for 301 yards with two TDs and two picks while rushing for an additional 41 yards and leading the Texans to what looked like a stunning victory over the Super Bowl champions. Unfortunately, Houston ended up on the wrong side of a 36-33 loss as Tom Brady led the Pats to a game-winning touchdown with just 23 seconds remaining. At home in Week 1, New England manages to pull out another close one!
NFL Betting Pick: Patriots 31 Texans 28
Week 3: Sunday, Sept. 23, vs. New York Giants, 1 PM ET
The Texans are the pick to get the win in their home opener over the G-Men in what I believe is a shootout just waiting to happen!
NFL Betting Pick: Texans 35 Giants 31
Week 5: Sunday, Oct. 7, vs. Dallas Cowboys, 8:20 PM ET
Houston will show everyone why they are the best team in the state of Texas in their first prime-time game of the season. Watson, Deandre Hopkins and Wes Fuller will have their way in this one against a Cowboys defense that is completely and utterly suspect!
NFL Betting Pick: Texans 27 Cowboys 21
Week 6: Sunday, Oct. 14, vs. Buffalo Bills, 1 PM ET
I’m expecting J.J. Watt and his defensive teammates, to beat up Buffalo’s A.J. McCarron or Nathan Peterman, of quite possibly – both unproven signal-callers.
NFL Betting Pick: Texans 28 Bills 17
Week 8: Thursday, Oct. 25, vs. Miami Dolphins, 8:25 PM ET
It’s Watson versus Miami’s Ryan Tannehill and that’s just not fair! Houston cruises to a double-digit win in this Week 5 mismatch!
NFL Betting Pick: Texans 31 Dolphins 20
Week 12: Monday, Nov. 26, vs. Tennessee Titans, 8:15 PM ET
The Texans laid an emphatic 57-14 beatdown on the Titans at home in Week 4 a year ago and they’ll get the win in this huge Week 12 divisional matchup, even though it won’t be nearly as emphatic.
NFL Betting Pick: Texans 27 Titans 24
Week 13: Sunday, Nov. 2, vs. Cleveland Browns, 1 PM ET
I love the offseason that Cleveland and I suspect the Browns will be infinitely better than the winless team they were a year ago,Still the Texans are the easy pick in this Week 13 matchup as they seek to build some momentum down the stretch run of the regulars season.
NFL Betting Pick: Texans 30 Browns 21
Week 16: Sunday, Dec. 23, at Philadelphia Eagles, 1 PM ET
I’m expecting this Week 16 matchup between the Birds and Texans to be fun-filled affair because of the play of Watson and equally gifted counterpart Carson Wentz. Philly will get the win at home in a tight contest..
NFL Betting Pick: Eagles 28 Texans 24
Week 17: Dec. 30, vs. Jacksonville Jaguars, 1 PM ET
The Texans will get some revenge for what I believe will be a Week 7 road loss at Jacksonville. It won’t be easy, but like Houston to scratch out the super narrow home win against the defending AFC South champions!
NFL Betting Pick: Texans 24 Jaguars 21
