Written by on August 24, 2017

With the third and most important week of NFL preseason finally here, it’s time to take a look at the handful of must-bet’ matchups that NFL betting odds enthusiasts just shouldn’t miss out on betting on. Five matchups have the looks of virtual locks in my expert opinion, so let’s check out the top preseason matchups with the latest NFL odds.

A Closer Look at the NFL Preseason Week 3 Must Bet Games

Carolina Panthers (6-10) at Jacksonville Jaguars (3-13)

When: Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 7:30 PM ET Where: EverBank Field NFL Preseason Odds: Carolina -1.5 / Total: 43.5 Analysis: The Carolina Panthers are 1-1 this scrimmage season and are coming off a 34-27 loss to the Tennessee Titans the last time out while the Jacksonville Jaguars have gone 1-1 in the preseason and are coming off a 12-8 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While Carolina starter cam newton may not play in this one because of his injured shoulder, I don’t think it’s going to matter every much with the Panthers’ voracious defense getting after whoever starts under center for the Jaguars. The Jags are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games while Carolina has gone 3-1-1 ATS in their last five road dates. 61 percent of public bettors like the Panthers to win and cover and I’m like…ya’ think? NFL Preseason Pick: Carolina -1.5

Football Preseason Week 3 Betting Odds Panthers at Jaguars

New England Patriots (17-2) at Detroit Lions (9-8)

When: Friday, August 25, 2017 at 7:00 PM ET Where: Ford Field NFL Preseason Odds: Detroit Lions +1 / Total: 45.5 TV: WBZ Analysis: New England is 0-2 this scrimmage season after losing to the Jaguars 31-24 and Texans 27-23 while Detroit has gone 2-0 in the preseason by beating the Colts 24-10 and Jets 16-6. Despite each team’s polar-opposite preseason records, Tom Brady and the superior New England Patriots are the easy pick to get the ‘feel-good’ win and be on their merry way. The Patriots have gone 8-1 ATS in their last nine road games while the Lions are 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall. I’m surprised that ‘just’ 61 percent of public bettors likes New England to get it done, but hey, I say roll with the majority. NFL Preseason Pick: New England -1

Indianapolis Colts (8-8) at Pittsburgh Steelers (13-6)

When: Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 7:30 PM ET Where: Heinz Field NFL Preseason Odds: Pittsburgh Steelers -5 / Total: 41 Analysis: The Indianapolis Colts are a winless 0-2 this scrimmage season and are coming off a 24-19 loss to the Dallas Cowboys the last time out. More importantly, Indy is still without starting quarterback Andrew Luck, although backups Stephen Morris and Scott Tolzien both looked rock-solid in Week 2. Morris completed 11 of 15 passes for 111 yards and one touchdown while Tolzien completed 10 of 14 passes for 70 yards. The Pittsburgh Steelers are an unbeaten 2-0 this preseason and come into their Week 3 matchup off a hard-fought 17-13 win over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2. Ben Roethlisberger hasn’t played this preseason, but he’ll start this contest. With Luck out and Big Ben in, it’s no wonder that a convincing 66 percent of public bettors likes Pittsburgh to get the job done in this one. Indianapolis is 1-4 ATS in their last five games against their AFC counterparts while Pittsburgh has gone 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games. NFL Preseason Pick: Pittsburgh -5

Chicago Bears (3-13) at Tennessee Titans (9-7)

When: Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 1:00 PM ET Where: Nissan Stadium NFL Preseason Odds: Tennessee Titans -3 / Total: 43.5 TV: FOX Analysis: The Chicago Bears are 1-1 this preseason and coming off a 24-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals the last time out as both, rookie signal-caller Mitchell Trubisky and veteran Mike Glennon, the expected starter, looked good. The Tennessee Titans have gone 1-1 this preseason and are coming off a 34-27 win over the Carolina Panthers in their last contest. Veteran backup Matt Cassel looked solid the last time out by completing eight of 13 passes for 88 yards after starter Marcus Mariota completed six of eight passes and tossed one touchdown. Starter Marcus Mariota completed six of eight passes and tossed one touchdown this NFL Preseason. With Chicago going a dismal 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games and the Over going 7-3-1 in Tennessee’s last 11 home games I like the Titans to win and cover – in addition to the Over playing out! 71 percent of public bettors like the Titans to get it done and so do I! NFL Preseason Pick: Tennessee 27 Chicago 21

San Francisco 49ers (2-14) at Minnesota Vikings (8-8)

When: Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 8:00 PM ET Where: U.S. Bank Stadium NFL Preseason Odds: Minnesota Vikings -4.5 / Total: 42 TV: NBC Analysis: The San Francisco 49ers are 1-1 this preseason after upsetting the Chiefs 27-17 in their scrimmage opener and losing to Denver 33-14 the last time out. The good news for the Niners is that third-string rookie quarterback C.J. Beathard has continued to impress by completing 7-for-12 passes for 110 yards and one touchdown. The bad news is that he has outplayed both, Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley in both preseason games so far. Minnesota is also 1-1 this preseason after beating the Buffalo Bills 17-10 in the opener and falling to Seattle 20-13 in Week 2. Veteran signal-caller Sam Bradford completing 7-of-11 for 95 yards the last time out.  A decisive 66 percent of public bettors likes Minnesota and I urge you to go with the majority in this matchup because of Minnesota’s stingy defense, combined with the fact that the Niners are just 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games while Minnesota has gone 22-7 ATS in their last 29 home games. NFL Preseason Pick: Minnesota -4.5
