NFL Betting: Teams that Face Pivotal Games on Week 2

Written by on September 11, 2014

The second week of NFL betting action kicks off this Thursday Night with an electrifying game featuring the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. the Baltimore Ravens, but after a few surprises and disappointments on week 1, there are several teams that are facing additional pressure and that have to deal with “must-win” situations coming into Week 2.The wins by Seattle, San Francisco, Atlanta and Miami were especially hard for their rivals since they were all seen as heavy post season contenders more than Week 1 losers. Since the NFL established the 16-game schedule in 1978, 52.4 percent of game 1 winners made it to the playoffs. Now, that does not mean that losing teams won’t make it to the post season, in fact 13 of the 36 teams that reached the playoffs over the last three seasons lost their respective games in Week 1; but despite what the stats and numbers indicate, some of these 0-1 teams need to wash their face and prove fans, football experts and bettors that there’s no reason to panic. So let’s review some of the teams that need to recover their path and claim victories on Week 2:New England PatriotsAfter a frustrating Week 1 divisional loss to the Miami Dolphins (20-33) , the Pats need to regroup and rethink their strategy when they visit the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, September 14th at 1:00 pm. The Pats enter the second week of the season in last place in the AFC East, and while the loss to Miami unveiled some defensive issues that must be addressed, losing their coming game to Minnesota is pretty much unlikely.Game Odds:PATRIOTS: -3-110, ML -150VIKINGS: +3-110, ML +130GAME TOTAL: 49, o/u -110Green Bay PackersThe 10-point loss against the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks at Century Link Field wasn’t a surprise, but now the Packers take on the New York Jets at home, the team faces a must win scenario against the Gang Green. The Jets had a great season opener and proved they have a great defensive unit, but the Packers have a highly efficient on offensive, so taking care of business at home should not be a problem for Aaron Rodgers and company.Game Odds:JETS: +8-110, ML +325PACKERS: -8-110, ML -405GAME TOTAL: 46, o/u -110New Orleans SaintsThe New Orleans Saints are again favored, this time by 6- points to win their game against the Cleveland Browns. The Saints were also favored by 3 points to win against the Atlanta Falcons but suffered a painful 37-34 loss in overtime that raised many questions. Week 1 was a tough lesson for the Saints, but regardless of what happened last Sunday in Atlanta, New Orleans has no intentions of falling into an 0-2 hole, so expect the Saints to get back on track in Week 2 and get a great comeback against the Browns.Game Odds:SAINTS-6½-110, ML -270BROWNS: +6½-110, ML +230GAME TOTAL: 47, O/U ½ -110Dallas CowboysAfter losing their season opener against the San Francisco 49ers, the Cowboys will take the road on Sunday to face the Tennessee Titans, but unlike the Packers, Saints and Pats, Dallas is set to enter their Week 2 game as 3-point road underdogs. The squad led by quarterback Tony Romo can’t take another loss if they really want to make it to the postseason. It’s only week 2, but the race for the lead in the NFC East is though. If the Philadelphia Eagles win their match vs. the Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football, they will be 2-0 and take the absolute lead in the NFC East division, and that’s a situation the Cowboys can’t afford at this point of the season.Game Odds:COWBOYS: +3+105, ML +155TITANS-3-125, ML -175GAME TOTAL: 49 ½, o/u -110For additional odds, betting lines and game totals for NFL Week 2, click here.
