A Closer Look At The Top 2016 NFL Upset Picks For Week 1

Cleveland Browns (3-13) at Philadelphia Eagles (7-9)

When: Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 1:00 PM ET Where: Lincoln Financial Field NFL Line: Philadelphia Eagles -4 / Over/Under: 46 Analysis: Philadelphia has made a series of head-scratching move all offseason and I believe they’re going to pay for their foolishness right off the bat against a Cleveland Browns team that is focused on creating a winning environment under new head coach Hue Jackson. The Philadelphia Eagles have compiled a discouraging 1-4 ATS mark in their last five home games and identical 1-4 ATS mark in their last five games in the month of September. While Cleveland has gone 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 2-8 in their last 10 games overall, I’m fully expecting Hue Jackson to lead his Cleveland Browns team to the outright road win and accompanying ATS cover. Both of these teams look quite evenly matched, but right now, I’m giving the edge at quarterback to Cleveland’s RG3. Cleveland wins outright! My Pick: Cleveland 28 Philadelphia 27

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-10) at Atlanta Falcons (8-8)

When: Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 1:00 PM ET Where: Georgia Dome NFL Odds: Atlanta Falcons -3 / Over/Under: 48 Analysis: While I’ve got the Atlanta Falcons getting the narrow home win and ATS cover, the fact of the matter is that Tampa Bay looks really good in this affair after beating the Falcons twice last season. The Buccaneers went 2-2 in the preseason while Atlanta went 3-1 during the scrimmage campaign. More importantly, Tampa Bay could be offensively explosive this season under former offensive coordinator-turned-head coach Dirk Koetter. Again, while I like Atlanta in this NFC South divisional rivalry, I can easily see the Buccaneers getting the outright road win!

Buffalo Bills (8-8) at Baltimore Ravens (5-11)

When: Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 1:00 PM ET Where: M&T Bank Stadium NFL Line: Baltimore Ravens -3 / Over/Under: 43.5 Analysis: The Buffalo Bills are hoping to reach the postseason in 2016 after underachieving in a big way in head coach Rex Ryan’s first season a year ago. While I’ve already picked the Ravens to get the narrow SU win and ATS cover, the fact of the matter is that the Bills could very well win this game outright against a Baltimore team that is looking to get back to playing winning football this season. While the Bills didn’t look particularly good in going 1-3 in the preseason,  Buffalo did finished 2015 ranked a solid 12th in scoring (23.6 ppg) and have a really nice quarterback in former Ravens backup Tyrod Taylor that is now the unquestioned starter. Not only that, but the Bills also still have elusive veteran running back LeSean McCoy and equally shifty veteran back Reggie Bush. Buffalo ranked a modest 15th in points allowed last season (22.4 ppg) but added two players in the NFL Draft that will play right away in defensive end Shaq Lawson and linebacker Reggie Ragland. Make no mistake about it NFL betting buffs, the Bills are a great upset pick in Week 1.
