NFL Week 1 Over Under Picks and Winning Favorites

NFL Week 1 Over/Under Picks and Winning Favorites

Written by on September 5, 2017

Those of you who love to bet on football, but who refuse to bet on the preseason, are probably delighted that NFL Week 1 of the regular season is here. I know I am, which is why I have put together some picks for the coming weekend. We have already delivered some SU picks for you guys, and now it’s time to look at some O/U predictions for the coming weekend. We will also be trying to cover each game individually, so look out for those previews over the next few days. Without any further ado, let’s take a look at the games that I believe will be on the high-scoring side of things, as well as a couple that look destined to fall UNDER the point total. So, will these games reach the predicted NFL betting spread for Week 1?

NFL Week 1 Over/Under Picks and Winning Favorites

Kansas City Chiefs vs. New England Patriots (UNDER 48)

We need to get thing rolling with the opening game of the 2017 NFL regular season, a game that sees the Kansas City Chiefs head into Foxboro to face the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. The O/U for this one is set at 48 points, and while I think these two might come close, I think the total will fall just UNDER. 2 of the last 3 meetings between these teams fell under that point total. You also need to pay attention to the fact that 9 of the last 13 games played by KC have gone UNDER.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS NFL WEEK 1 TEAM STATISTICS

  • Offensive total yards 336.24
  • Current Offensive rush yards 106.47
  • Offensive passing yards 229.76
  • Average Score For 23.82
  • Defensive total yards 369.76
  • Current Defensive rush yards 124.12
  • Defensive passing yards 245.65
  • Average Score Against 19.35

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS NFL WEEK 1 TEAM STATISTICS

  • Offensive total yards 396.63
  • Current Offensive rush yards 112.16
  • Offensive passing yards 284.47
  • Average Score For 28.68
  • Defensive total yards 327.47
  • Current Defensive rush yards 88.37
  • Defensive passing yards 239.11
  • Average Score Against 16.37

Week 1 NFL Odds Overview & Predictions for Each Game

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cleveland Browns (UNDER 47)

While the Steelers have one of the best offensive units in the league, their games regularly fall UNDER the point total, with 16 of their last 23 games hitting that mark. They have dominated the Browns in recent years, but only 3 of their last 10 meetings have gone OVER. The Browns have a lot of new parts in their offense this season, including a rookie at QB, so it may take them a few weeks to settle into some sort of groove. That would suggest that points may be hard to come by in the early part of the season.

PITTSBURGH STEELERS NFL WEEK 1 TEAM STATISTICS

  • Offensive total yards 372.68
  • Current Offensive rush yards 113.89
  • Offensive passing yards 258.79
  • Average Score For 24.42
  • Defensive total yards 339.21
  • Current Defensive rush yards 93.16
  • Defensive passing yards 246.05
  • Average Score Against 20.58

CLEVELAND BROWNS NFL WEEK 1 TEAM STATISTICS

  • Offensive total yards 311.00
  • Current Offensive rush yards 107.00
  • Offensive passing yards 204.00
  • Average Score For 16.503
  • Defensive total yards 392.44
  • Current Defensive rush yards 142.75
  • Defensive passing yards 249.69
  • Average Score Against 28.25

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington Redskins (OVER 47 ½)

This has the makings of a very entertaining match-up, and one that may well come down to whoever gets the ball last. I am looking at this one as a field goal game, and I think there will be a lot of points put on the board here. The last 10 meetings between these two teams has ended with an O/U record of 6-3-1, so we are used to seeing higher scores when they go head to head. Individually, the Eagles have seen 4 of their last 5 games go OVER, while the Redskins are on a run where 17 of their previous 21 games have hit the OVER. This one looks like a bit of a no-brainer.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES NFL WEEK 1 TEAM STATISTICS

  • Offensive total yards 337.44
  • Current Offensive rush yards 113.25
  • Offensive passing yards 224.19
  • Average Score For 22.94
  • Defensive total yards 342.75
  • Current Defensive rush yards 103.25
  • Defensive passing yards 239.50
  • Average Score Against 20.69

WASHINGTON REDSKINS NFL WEEK 1  TEAM STATISTICS

  • Offensive total yards 403.62
  • Current Offensive rush yards 106.25
  • Offensive passing yards 297.38
  • Average Score For 24.75
  • Defensive total yards 377.75
  • Current Defensive rush yards 119.75
  • Defensive passing yards 258.00
  • Average Score Against 23.94

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Houston Texans (OVER 39 ½)

The point total for this one strikes me as a little low, but I understand why the bookies have gone this route. Blake Bortles has struggled as the starting QB for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he is starting this season going against a Texans defense that has been one of the best in the league over the past few seasons. On the offensive side of the football for the Houston Texans you have a rookie QB making his first ever NFL Week 1 start. On the offensive side of the football for the Houston Texans you have a rookie QB making his first ever NFL start, and there are sure to be some nerves, and probably a few mistakes made early on. Despite all that, I still think this one goes OVER. The last 10 meetings between these two has seen the OVER come in 6 times. The Jaguars have seen the total go OVER in 4 of their last 6 games, and while the Texans lean more to the UNDER, I think they will put up some points here.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS NFL WEEK 1 TEAM STATISTICS

  • Offensive total yards 334.94
  • Current Offensive rush yards 101.94
  • Offensive passing yards 233.00
  • Average Score For 19.88
  • Defensive total yards 321.69
  • Current Defensive rush yards 106.44
  • Defensive passing yards 215.25
  • Average Score Against 25.00

HOUSTON TEXANS NFL WEEK 1 TEAM STATISTICS

  • Offensive total yards 311.83
  • Current Offensive rush yards 116.00
  • Offensive passing yards 195.83
  • Average Score For 17.89
  • Defensive total yards 300.17
  • Current Defensive rush yards 97.72
  • Defensive passing yards 202.44
  • Average Score Against 20.89
