Soccer Betting Odds & Prediction: Bayern Munich vs. Real Madrid

When you have the best teams in Europe going head to head in the Champions League, as we do every year, it’s generally tough to make a soccer betting prediction. That said, there are usually a few teams that make a habit of getting to the later stages of the tournament. For example, Real Madrid has made it to the semi-finals stage in each of the last 8 seasons, which is a stunning accomplishment when you consider the quality of the teams they are playing every year. They are also the two-time defending champion in this tournament, so they have long since proven that they know how to get the job done.

Their opponent is this year’s semi-final is Bayern Munich, another team that is no strangers to the late stages of the Champions League. While Bayern has made a habit of getting to this stage, it is often where they fall, and ironically enough, their last 3 defeats in this tournament have cone against Spanish opposition. That is a trend they will be looking to bring to an end as they come in as the betting favorites at +102, which will mean a solid performance in the home leg.

Why bet on Bayern Munich?

Bayern Munich already has the Bundesliga all wrapped up, which means that they are free to totally focus on winning the Champions League. The German champions have been in devastating for this season, with their run to the title never really in any doubt. In Robert Lewandowski, they have one of the best finishers in football today, although he is just part of the reason why this team has managed to score 84 goals in just 31 games this season in domestic play.

Bayern did struggle to find the net in their quarter-final tie with Sevilla, although they had done most of the hard work in the opening leg, winning 2-1 on the road. Still, they will be disappointed with their 0-0 showing in the home leg of that one, particularly with Sevilla playing much of the game with 10 men. Bayern is going to need to score goals in this one before hitting the road for the second leg next week.

Possible Line-up

  • 26-S. Ulreich
  • 13-Rafinha
  • 17-J. Boateng
  • 5-M. Hummels
  • 32-J. Kimmich
  • 10-A. Robben
  • 7-F. Ribéry
  • 8-J. Martínez
  • 11-J. Rodríguez
  • 25-T. Müller
  • 9-R. Lewandowski

Why bet on Real Madrid?

Real Madrid’s performance in this tournament over the last 8 years has been nothing short of brilliant, but they can count themselves a little lucky to be here this year. They looked to have the quarter-final all wrapped up, beating Juventus 3-0 on the road in the first leg, but they inexplicably found themselves 3 down and heading for extra-time in leg 2.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid come in as the Soccer Betting underdogs for Leg 1 against Bayern Munich.

That all changed when they were awarded a controversial penalty in injury time, which was duly converted by Cristiano Ronaldo, a player who just cannot seem to stop scoring over the past couple of months. If Madrid put in a similar lackluster performance here, they will be buried by a very dangerous Bayern team. I believe that the outcome of that Juventus game will have served as a wake-up call, though.

Possible Line-up

  • 1-K. Navas
  • 4-S. Ramos
  • 12-Marcelo
  • 2-D. Carvajal
  • 5-R. Varane
  • 10-L. Modrić
  • 8-T. Kroos
  • 14-Casemiro
  • 22-Isco
  • 7-C. Ronaldo
  • 9-K. Benzema

Expert Soccer Betting Pick & Score Prediction

While these are two very gifted offensive sides, I think this one is going to be tight. Bayern will want to get the lead going into the second leg, but I don’t see them totally opening up, where they might be exposed to the counter-attack.

Score: Bayern Munich 1 – Real Madrid 0
