2018 U.S. Open Men’s Quarterfinals Betting Preview

Written by on September 3, 2018

The US Open is about to head into the second week of action, which means we are getting into the later rounds of the competition. By the time Monday comes to a close, we will know which 8 players remain in the men’s quarter-finals. A couple in the top half of the draw has already been set, but there are still some games to come in the bottom half. Let’s take a closer look at the match-up to see how things might play out in the quarter-finals alongside the Tennis odds favorites to win it all.

Tennis Betting Preview for 2018 US Open Men’s Quarterfinals

Top Half of the Draw

The #1 seed is Rafael Nadal and he has already booked his ticket into the final 8, although it has not been as smooth as he would have liked. He has needed 4 sets to win each of his last two games and actually had to come from a set down in the third round. Next up will be #9 seed Dominic Thiem, who is coming off a huge straight sets win over #5 seed Kevin Anderson. Nadal is 6-3 in his past meetings with Thiem, although all those games were on clay. Look for Nadal to move on. Rounding out the top half of the draw will be a quarter-final meeting between Juan Martin del Potro and John Isner. Del Potro has been cruising along quite nicely to get to this point, whereas Isner is coming off a grueling 5-set win over Milos Raonic in the last round. Del Potro is 6-4 in 10 career meetings with Isner, although it is the American who has won the last two meetings, both of which came on a hard-court surface.

Bottom Half of the Draw

ATP’s #7 seed Marin Cilic takes on #10 David Goffin for a spot in the quarter-finals, with Goffin winning 4 of their 6 previous meetings. He has been particularly good on hard surfaces, so look for him to get the win. If he does, he will likely face Kei Nishikori, as he has an early lead in his 4th round game against Paul Kohlschreiber. Assuming it is those two that move on to meet in the next round, you need to give the edge to Nishikori. He has won each of the 3 previous meetings with Goffin, dropping just one set in those matches. I like Nishikori to make it all the way to the semi-finals, where he will have his toughest game yet. Kei Nishikori is one of the Tennis Betting favorites at the 2018 US Open. This is where things start to get very interesting, as we are looking at a potentially great match-up for the quarter-finals. Novak Djokovic is back to great form and has looked great through the opening three rounds. He will go against Jaoa Sousa in the 4th round, a player that he has beaten in each of their 4 previous meetings. Roger Federer will be the likely opponent for Djokovic in the quarter-finals, as he will be facing John Millman in the 4th round, a match that he really should win. Djokovic has won 4 of the last 5 meetings with Federer, including each of the last 3, so I like him to win and move on to the semi-finals.
