2019 Australian Open Men’s Singles – Round of 16

Frances Tiafoe vs Rafael Nadal

Tiafoe is an over 1,200 to 1 underdog to take down Rafa in the Australian Open Quarterfinals. It’s hard to see Frances pulling off one of the great upsets in tennis even though he’s beaten #5 Kevin Anderson and #20 Grigor Dimitrov.

Then again, it’s hard to back Nadal at -2365. The odds are too low. Nadal should win and he probably will win easily, but the odds require a small wager on Tiafoe. Eventually, every great tennis player digresses and then retires. We don’t know when that will happen for Nadal.

Not only that, Rafa’s had to bail out of major tournaments in the past due to injury. Who knows? Tiafoe might score at ridiculous odds.

2019 Australian Open Quarterfinals Pick: Frances Tiafoe

Milos Raonic vs Lucas Pouille

Lucas Pouille heads to the quarterfinals off a really tough match against 11 Borna Coric. Coric pushed Pouille, beating him 6-7 (4-7) in the first set. Pouille might not have the energy to stick with favored Raonic.

This is especially true after watching how easily Raonic disposed of 4 Alexander Zverez in Round 4. Raonic beat Zverez 6-1, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). He should have no trouble against Pouille on Tuesday.

2019 Australian Open Women’s Singles – Round of 16

Serena Williams vs Karolina Pliskova

It looks like Serena’s on her game. In 4 Australian Open matches, she’s been excellent. Only Simona Halep has taken a set. That was the second set in Serena’s otherwise easy victory over Halep. But although Serena looks great, Pliskova’s got a big shot.

Karolina Pliskova has held her own against Serena Williams. She’s won 1-of-3 versus the greatest women’s tennis player of all time. The age gap might have a say in this one because while Serena is 37-years-old, Pliskova is only 26-years-old.

Karolina also goes into this having dominated Garbine Muguruza 6-3, 6-1 in Round 4. She’s the one to back in this matchup.

2019 Australian Open Quarterfinals Pick: Karolina Pliskova

Naomi Osaka -145 vs Elina Svitolina +125

Elina Svitolina put a beating onto Madison Keyes in Round 4:  6-2, 1-6, 6-1, but she’ll have to step it up against 4 Naomi Osaka.

The 2018 U.S. Open Champion has shown amazing toughness during the Australian Open. Versus Su-Wei Hsieh she lost the first set 5-7. She ended up beating Hsieh in the next two sets. Osaka also lost the first set to Anastasija Sevastova. She picked herself up and beat Sevastova in the next two sets as well.

Osaka gets the win.
