Grigor Dimitrov vs. Roger Federer

28-year-old Grigor Dimitrov has put together a nice U.S. Open run. He beat Andreas Sepi in 5 sets in Round 1. He beat Borna Coric, the 12-seed, via a walkover in the second round. Then, he took down Kamil Majchrzak in 4 sets in the Round of 16.

Even with the wins, Dimitrov only has a 12-15 straight up singles matches record this year. That doesn’t bode well for Grigor when he attempts to knock out the great Roger Federer on Tuesday.

Federer has become the de facto U.S. Open co-favorite along with Rafael Nadal after Novak Djokovic had to go home due to a shoulder injury. In his Round of 16 match, FedEx dominated tough David Goffin 6-2, 6-2, 6-0. There’s no reason to believe he lets Dimitrov hang around after 3 sets in the quarterfinals.

US Open Men’s Pick: Roger Federer

Daniil Medvedev vs. Stan Wawrinka

Medvedev-Wawrinka should be an excellent match. Before Novak bowed out of their Round of 16 battle, Stan Wawrinka had won the first two sets 6-4, and 7-5. He was up 2-1 before Djokovic’s shoulder forced him to the sidelines.

Wawrinka has played better than Daniil Medvedev during the U.S. Open. While he’s cruised to the quarterfinals, Medvedev has struggled. It took Daniil 5 sets to beat unranked Dominik Koepfer in the Round of 16. It took him 6 sets to beat Feliciana Lopez in the third round.

Although Wawrinka has played better, this could be Daniil Medvedev’s tournament. Yes, he hasn’t looked sharp in every match. However, he’s won every match. He deserves backing in this spot.

US Open Men’s Pick: Daniil Medvedev

Gael Monfils vs Matteo Berrettini

The 33-year-old Monfils is having some tournament. He marches into the quarterfinals after having beaten Pablo Andujar 6-1, 6-1, 6-2. Monfils has a singles title this year. He’s also 26-11 in singles matches in 2019. Those are signs he should beat Berrettini on Sep. 4.

Although that’s true, Matteo Berrettini keeps answering the bell. As an underdog versus Andrey Rublev, he got by his opponent in 4 sets. Berrettini upsets Monfils and moves to the U.S. Open semifinals.

U.S. Open Men’s Tennis Pick: Matteo Berrettini

Rafael Nadal vs Diego Schwartzman

Marin Cilic won the second set against Rafael Nadal. Rafa didn’t blink. He calmly took the next two sets and now has a chance to make it to yet another U.S. Open Semifinals. His opponent Wednesday, Deigo Schwartzman, easily handled Alexander Zverev after losing the first set. He won’t keep up with Rafael Nadal.
