Reigning WBC junior bantamweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (47-4-1, 41 KOs) is 32-years-old and stands 5’3” with a 63.5-inch reach. The native of Thailand has not suffered a defeat since 2014 and comes into this title fight riding a 20-fight winning streak that includes a unanimous decision win over Iran Diaz in October.

Prediction

When these two met in February 2018 at The Forum in Inglewood, California, they staged one of that year’s most exciting fights and many fight fans were expecting an immediate rematch after Sor Rungvisai escaped with a majority decision win. While the fight failed to materialize until now, I like the value this matchup is offering.

While Juan Francisco Estrada is out for revenge and is three years younger than the reigning champ, I just don’t see Srisaket Sor Rungvisai letting his guard down against an opponent he knows is extremely dangerous and one that wants some payback as well. No…instead of the upset win, I’m going to urge you to back the champ for one huge reason. His punching power is off the charts with an insane 41 knockouts in 51 career fights. As a matter of fact, I’m going with the champ for the KO win simply because I’m expecting Estrada to open himself up to a power shot after getting a little too eager.

Pick: Srisaket Sor Rungvisai Via Eighth Round KO

Daniel Roman vs. TJ Doheny

These two fighters will meet in a 12 round clash for the WBA/IBF junior featherweight unification titles. Daniel Roman (26-2, 10 KOs) is 28-years-old and stands 5’5” with a 67.5-inch reach. He’s, rated No. 4 by The Ring at 122 pounds and won the WBA super bantamweight title back in September of 2017 by stopping, then champ, Shun Kabo via a ninth round TKO. Now, Roman comes into this affair riding a three-fight winning streak that includes a 10th round TKO win over Gavin McDonnell in October.

T.J. Doheny (21-0, 15 KOs) is 32-years-old and stands 5’5½” with a 68-inch reach. The southpaw champ stopped Ryosuke Iwasa via decision in August to claim the IBF super bantamweight title and defended it with an 11th-round KO of Ryohei Takahashi in January. Doheny has won five of his last fights via stoppage.

Prediction

There’s no doubt that Daniel Roman is definitely a talented fighter that can mix it up with any super bantamweight on the face of the planet. Unfortunately, he’s facing a fighter in T.J. Doheny that is just a bit better at everything and is definitely the more powerful puncher in this affair. I’m going with Doheny for the majority decision win in a matchup that looks like it could be one of the most entertaining fights on the entire 2019 docket.

Kiryl Relikh vs. Regis Prograis

Kiryl Relikh (23-2, 19 KOs) is 29-years-old and stands 5’9.5” with a 67.5-inch reach. The WBA super lightweight champ has won two straight fights including a unanimous decision win over Eduard Troyanovsky in October.

Regis Prograis (23-0, 19 KOs) is 30-years-old and stands 5’8” with a 67-inch reach. The 140-pound WBC Diamond light welterweight champion has never been beaten in 23 career fights and comes into this bout off a unanimous decision win over Terry Flanagan in October.

Prediction

While both of these talented fighters have an identical 23 career wins and an identical 19 knockouts, there’s a reason why Regis Prograis is such a huge favorite in this pairing and it’s because he’s the more versatile fighter, powerful puncher and better defensive boxer.

Just prior to winning his last two bouts, Kiryl Relikh had dropped his previous two bouts via unanimous decision. With Regis Prograis finishing off six straight opponents via stoppage prior to his last bout, I’m going with the big favorite to win and cash in.

Zolani Tete vs. Nonito Donaire

WBA champion American-Filipino Nonito Donaire (39-5, 25 KOs) is 36-years-old and stands 5’6” with a 68-inch reach. South Africa’s WBO champion Zolani Tete (28-3, 21 KOs) is 31-years-old and stands 5’9” with a 72-inch reach. While Donaire comes into this bout off a fourth round win (retirement) over Ryan Burnett in November, he’s also alternated wins and losses over his previous four fights. Tete. On the other hand, has won 12 straight fights since suffering his last defeat six years ago. Tete comes into this bout off a unanimous decision win over Mikhail Aloyan in October.

Prediction

I wouldn’t think twice about backing the favored Zolani Tete in this matchup. Not only is he a half-decade younger than Nonito Donaire, but he’s also the more experienced fighter with more punching power, not to mention, he’s the far superior defensive boxer in this pairing. This one is going the distance, but Tete wins!

Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – April 15th Edition

Christopher Diaz vs Shakur Stevenson

The main card gets rolling with a 12-round Welterweight battle, where Christopher Diaz will be looking to bounce back after losing his last bout against Masayuki Ito. That fight was for the vacant WBO World Super Featherweight Title, with Diaz losing by UD to take his career mark to 24-1 with 15 KO.

Diaz will have another tough one on his hands against up and coming brawler Shakur Stevenson, who is coming into this bout having started his pro career with a 10-0 record, which includes 6 wins by KO. There is going to be a lot of power on display here, but look for Diaz to get the KO win.

Felix Verdejo vs Bryan Vasquez

The next fight up is a very good looking 12-round Lightweight bout, where Felix Verdejo will be moving back into the Lightweight division after winning the WBA Super Bantamweight Title last November in a dominating fight that he won by KO in the second round. Verdejo now has a career mark of 24-1, with 16 of his wins coming by way of the KO.

He will be up against veteran fighter Bryan Vasquez, who is a 7 years pro. Vasquez is 37-3 with 20 KO, so he is certainly not an easy mark. Vasquez is on a 2-fight losing run, though, so look for Verdejo to make it 3 losses in a row for the veteran.

Edis Tatli vs Teofimo Lopez

This 12-round Lightweight duel is actually the co-feature fight on this card, and for good reason. Both of these fighters are considered to be series contenders in this weight class, so expect a great fight here. Tatli comes in with a career mark of 31-2, with 10 of his wins coming via KO.

His last bout came in August, where he won by UD to claim the EBU European Lightweight Title. Lopez is 12-0 with 10 KO wins, but he is also taking on his third fight since December of last year, although the two previous outings were over rather quickly. This is one that might go the distance, and I am on Tatli to win.

Amir Khan vs Terence Crawford

This Welterweight Title Fight may be the headline event, but it may also be the bout that is over the fastest on Saturday night. Amir Khan is a former world champion who appears to be on the last leg of his career.

He does have wins in back to back fights, but those came against lesser opponents after he lost to Saul Alvarez in a WBC World Middleweight Title fight. Crawford is undoubtedly one of the best pound for pound fighters in the business today and comes in with a 34-0 record that includes 25 KO wins. Look for Crawford to get the job done relatively quickly.

While Crolla has won three straight bouts and has a vast edge in experience in this bout, it is the reigning champ that has the edge in hand and foot speed, overall athleticism and defense. Not only that, but the champ has won five of his last six fights in stoppage fashion and he’s looking for a big payday down the road. Prior to winning his last three fights, Crolla had dropped consecutive fights against former champ Jorge Linares via unanimous decision and this is the same Linares that Lomachenko stopped via 10th round TKO in May. I’ve got the challenger losing this title bout by unanimous decision as well.

24-year-old Michigan native and 2012 Gold Medal winner Claressa Shields is unbeaten in eight fights and will put her WBA, WBC and IBF female middleweight titles on the line in this highly intriguing affair. Shields comes into this bout off a unanimous decision win over German Femke Hermans in December and generally outclasses her opponents as he modest two career knockouts indicate.

28-year-old Kazakhstan native Christina Hammer is unbeaten in 24 career bouts and her WBO middleweight title is on the line in this one. Hammer comes into this bout off a stunning second round TKO win over Elene Sikmashvili in February, so she’s got a quick turnaround in this bout.

This matchup, which which takes place live  from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey and will air live on Showtime at 9:00 PM ET, is being billed as arguably the most important bout in women’s boxing history. The pair were originally scheduled to meet last November, but Hammer had to pull out because of an undisclosed injury.

“I always seek the biggest challenges and set the highest goals. I will be ready like never before and will defeat Christina Hammer on April 13,” said Shields. “Nothing will stop me from becoming undisputed champion and continuing my journey to carry women’s boxing to never-before-seen heights. I want to be the greatest of all time and change the game forever for all women in sports, and April 13 is an important step on that road to history.”

While Hammer has dominated the women’s middleweight division for eight years, I’m thinking she’s finally met her match in Claressa Shields. Not only that, but I suspect that Shields has an added chip on her shoulder after Hammer first introduced herself to the young pro back in 2017 after Shields beat Nikki Adler and Hammer had some ‘after match’ trash-talking to do.

I’m going with Shields to do just what she said she’d do to hammer right here.

Shields has won each of her last four bouts via unanimous decision and I’ve got her getting past hammer via another unanimous decision.

Russian Elena Gradinar will be shooting for her first world title when she takes on former two-time title challenger Brenda Karen Carabajal for the vacant IBF Featherweight World Championship on the undercard of the Shields vs. Hammer card in A.C. Gradinar comes into this bout off a unanimous decision win over Olivia Gerula in March of 2018, so she could be ring-rusty, Carbajal comes into this bout off a unanimous decision win over Paola Ibarra in October.

While Elena Gradinar has won all nine of her career fights, this one will undoubtedly be the toughest of her career. With that said, I’m going with Brenda Karen Carabajal to get the win for a couple of reasons. First, she’s got the edge in experience and I suspect she’s going to be the one less intimidated by making her first appearance in the U.S…plus Carbajal has lost twice in her bid to become a world champion. I say, the third time’s the charm everyone!

On Saturday, in Monterrey, Mexico, Jaime Munguia looks to defend his title against challenger Dennis “Hurricane” Hogan in a 12-round affair. The 22-year-old Munguia comes into this bout off a unanimous decision win over Takeshi Inoue in January that was his third successful title defense since winning the belt by beating Sadam Ali in May of 2018. 34-year-old Dennis Hogan has won six straight fights since suffering his only career loss back in 2015.

The pick for this championship bout is easy as pie, seeing as how Jamie Munguia is the younger, bigger, faster and stronger fighter in this matchup. Many boxing observers believe that Munguia has a chance to be one of the best fighters in the world and he’s shown that he has plenty of superstar potential while fighting at a mind-boggling pace that has produced an insane 32 career fights even though he’s still just 22-years-old.

Munguia is most likely making his last appearance as a junior middleweight as he seeks a big payday against either Triple G, Canelo or Danny Jacobs at middleweight. That said, there’s absolutely no way he loses this fight to Dennis Hogan.
