Originally introduced in 2011 as a New Year’s Day game, the Heart of Dallas Bowl was rescheduled to late December in 2014, the same time that Zaxby’s became the game’s title sponsor (The first two games were sponsored by TicketCity and PlainsCapital Bank took over the next two.
The inaugural Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl game was played on New Year’s Day (January 1), 2011, at the Cotton Bowl in Fair Park in Dallas, Texas. This game physically replaced the Cotton Bowl Classic, which moved from its longtime eponymous home to AT&T Stadium in nearby Arlington in 2010. The bowl’s full name is the Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl. Zaxby’s took over as title sponsor after PlainsCapital Bank withdrew; it was announced that Zaxby’s will become the primary sponsor for the 2014-15 season.
Two college football programs that have never played against each other along with each team making their first-ever appearance at the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium will clash on Dec. 26 in the Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl when the Washington Huskies of the Pac 12 Conference step on the field to face Southern Miss Golden Eagles of Conference USA. Kickoff for the sixth annual Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl is set for 1:20 p.m. CT on ESPN.
The winning team has scored 30 points or more in each of the first six Heart of Dallas bowls while three of those winners topped the 40-point plateau. In last year’s Heart of Dallas Bowl, Washington overpowered Southern Mississippi 44 31 to cover the college basketball betting line as an 8-point favorite while the game’s final score played Over the 51.-5-point Over/Under total.
College football gaming enthusiasts should know that Favorites have gone 6-0 straight up (SU) and 5-1 against the spread (ATS) in this game. Conference USA teams are 3-1 in this annual postseason affair. Big 12 teams have gone 2-0 and the Big Ten has gone winless in four appearances.
