Utah State Aggies 2019 College Football Season Betting Guide

They might have gone a fantastic 11-2 to win the Mountain West regular season title a year ago, but the Utah State Aggies fell short of reaching the conference championship game and now, they head into 2019 looking to record their first consecutive seasons of double-digit victories. The bad news is that the Aggies will be looking to do so under former head coach Gary Andersen who returns to replace Matt Wells after leading the program for four seasons (2009-2012).

Whether you plan on betting on or against the Mountain West Conference title hopefuls more often than not in 2019, there are a bunch of insightful things you need to know about the Aggies before their regular season opener. Let’s find out what those things are right now.

Utah State Aggies 2019 College Football Season Betting Guide

  • 2020 National Championship Odds: +12500
  • 2019 Win Total Odds: 7

2018 Betting Statistics

  • ATS: 11-2 (W-L) / 10-3-0 (ATS) / 6-0-0 (Home) / 4-3-0 (Away) / 3-0-0 (Grass) / 7-3-0 (Turf)
  • O/U: 9-4-0 (W-L) / 6-0-0 (Home) / 3-4-0 (Away) / 2-1-0 (Grass) / 7-3-0 (Turf) / 69.8 (Total)

Not only did the Aggies post a stupendous 11-2 record last season, but they also went a blistering 10-3 ATS to finish with one of the very best ATS marks in the nation while going a pristine 6-0 ATS at home. The Mountain West title hopefuls also went 9-4 against their Over/Under total odds while playing over the total in all six of their home games.

2018 Team Leaders

  • Touchdowns:  Darwin Thompson (16)
  • Rushing: Darwin Thompson (1044)
  • Passing: Jordan Love (3567)
  • Receiving: Ron’Quavion Tarver (709)
  • Interceptions: Aaron Wade (4)

Last season, freshman running back Darwin Thompson led the team in touchdowns scored and rushing yards while sophomore quarterback Jordan Love was mostly phenomenal in passing for 3,567 yard with 32 TD passes and just six interceptions. Graduated senior wide receiver Ron’Quavion Tarver posted a team-high 709 receiving yards while fellow senior safety Aaron Wade recorded a team-high four interceptions.

Offense

  • Total Yards: 497.7 / Rank 11
  • Passing Yards: 294.2 / Rank 17
  • Rushing Yards: 203.5 /Rank 31
  • Points Scored: 47.5 / Rank 2
  • Field Goal %: 78.6 / Rank 38

The Aggies were downright explosive on offense in finishing the 2018 campaign ranked 11th overall, 17th in passing, 31st in rushing and a phenomenal second in scoring (47.5 ppg).

Defense

  • Total Yards: 379.6 / Rank 51
  • Passing Yards: 236.5 / Rank 77
  • Rushing Yards: 143.2 /Rank 42
  • Points Allowed: 22.2 / Rank 33
  • Field Goal %: 76 / Rank 78

The Aggies were solid, if not necessarily outstanding defensively in finishing 51st overall, 77th against the pass, 42nd against the run and 33rd in points allowed (22.2 ppg).

Outlook

Utah State is looking like a quite attractive team to wager on in 2019 seeing as how they have a pair of blossoming stars in now, junior quarterback Jordan Love and now, sophomore running back Darwin Thompson. The strong-armed, 6-4, 225-pound Love completed a fine, 64.0 percent of his passes while adding seven rushing scores for good measure and Thompson looks poised for an even bigger season after out-performing all expectations as a freshman a year ago.

While Utah State posted some modest numbers across the board defensively, they were outstanding in keeping their opponents out of the end zone. Seven starters return from a unit that tied for the national lead with 32 forced turnovers in 2018, including All-America linebacker candidate David Woodward who racked up a stupendous 134 tackles.

Still, there are some question marks, starting with head coach Gary Andersen who had two losing seasons in four years (2009-2012), although he did lead the Aggies to a stellar 11-2 mark in his final season. The Aggies will need to find replacements for four starting offensive linemen, not to mention the Aggies have a glaring lack of experience at wide receiver and in the defensive secondary.

Right now, I’m expecting the Aggies to suffer a pair of losses against non-conference opponents Wake Forest and LSU and they could fall to both 2018 Mountain West Championship game rivals, Fresno State and Boise State. Despite some star talent on offense, I’m thinking the Aggies could suffer at least four losses at minimum to finish at either 8-4 or possibly 7-5. Now, head on over to the MYBookie college football sportsbook and make your wagers on the Aggies accordingly.

Utah State vs North Texas 2018 New Mexico Bowl Spread & Prediction

Utah State had a terrific season under coach Matt Wells. So good, in fact, that Wells won’t coach the team in the New Mexico Bowl on Saturday vs. North Texas. That’s because Wells has accepted the head coaching job at Texas Tech. Still, the Aggies are solid NCAAF Betting favorites. Utah State vs North Texas 2018 New Mexico Bowl Spread Read More
