Series History

The teams played on Dec. 5 in East Lansing and Wisconsin won 70-57. AJ Storr had 22 points and Steven Crowl 18. However, Michigan State leads the all-time series 86-68. The Spartans are 28-48 all-time on the road against the Badgers, but have won the last two games at Kohl Center and four of the last five games in Madison. Tom Izzo is 35-24 in his career against Wisconsin.

Why Bet on Michigan State Spartans?

The Spartans (12-7, 4-4) won their third game in a row Sunday, 61-59, at Maryland. Trailing by as many as 15 points in the first half, the Terps rallied to take a lead with less than nine minutes, but Michigan State would pull back ahead and hold on.

MSU star Tyson Walker drilled a three-pointer and Maryland’s Jahmir Young responded with a long two, forcing Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo to burn a timeout as his squad led by only two with under a minute remaining. Sparty inbounded the ball out of the timeout and Walker missed a jump shot with seven seconds remaining. The Terps had an opportunity at a game winner, but the Spartans forced a loose ball turnover as the Terps raced up the court. The game clock flashed double zeros.

The Terps’ defense stifled the Spartans in the second half and held them to 7-26 (27%) shooting from the floor. They also blocked all six of its shots in the half. Maryland outrebounded Michigan State by +15, grabbing 37 boards to the Spartans’ 22. That’s rare for MSU to be outrebounded.

Walker led four MSU players in double figures with 15 points, while adding a game-high five assists and five steals. Dating back to last season, Walker has scored in double figures in 30-straight games, the second-longest streak in double figures by a player under Izzo. In Big Ten games, Walker is averaging 19.3 ppg, while shooting 46.8 percent from the floor and 43.5 percent from 3-point land (20-of-46). Walker now has 1,155 career points at MSU and moved past Pete Gent (1961-64) and is tied with Lindsay Hairston (1972-75) for 40th all-time. Why Bet on Wisconsin Badgers?

Big Ten-leading Wisconsin (15-4, 7-1) won at Minnesota on Tuesday, 61-59. The Gophers, who trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half, mounted a furious second-half rally and led late. Elijah Hawkins fueled the Gophers’ comeback, as he made 3-of-4 three-pointers and scored 13 of his 16 points after the break.

Minnesota led 57-55 with 1:51 left, but the Badgers closed the game with a 6-2 run to sneak out the win, their seventh-straight in the series, with the last five all being by six points or less. As a team, Minnesota made 7-of-10 second-half three-pointers to finish 10-of-24 (.417) from beyond the arc, but was just 22-of-58 (.379) from the field for the game.

Tyler Wahl had 16 points and hit two free throws with 5 seconds left to lead the Badgers. A.J. Storr had 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Max Klesmit scored 11 points and made a key steal down the stretch for the Badgers, who were 8 for 10 from the foul line. On the season, UW is shooting 77.7% (304-391) from the line, which is on pace for the second-highest mark in program history.

“He’s been on such a tear offensively that people forget he’s a tough-nosed defender first and foremost,” said coach Greg Gard of Klesmit. “He just made plays when we needed them.”
