Brandon Clarke scored 24 points and Gonzaga got a tiebreaking 3-pointer from Zach Norvell Jr. with less than three minutes remaining as part of a game-ending 17-2 run. Rui Hachimura added 21 points and Josh Perkins scored all 16 points in the second half. Frankie Ferrari scored 21 points and helped San Francisco take an 81-79 lead with less than four minutes remaining before the Bulldogs took over.
It was the Zags’ 15th straight win in the series. San Francisco hasn’t beaten a Top 5 team since knocking off No. 5 Wichita State in Hawaii on Dec. 29, 1981.
Why Bet on San Francisco?
USF has lost back-to-back games, both away from home. It was 86-80 at Saint Mary’s on Saturday. Saint Mary’s took the lead for good at 5-4 and had its largest lead at 47-30 going into the break. San Francisco went on an 18-6 run late to close the gap to 83-80 with 21 seconds left but could get no closer.
USF (17-5, 5-3 WCC) shot well as a team, shooting 52.4 percent from the field (33-for-63) and were 10-for-21 from long range. Unfortunately for the Dons, Saint Mary’s was just a little better, connecting on 55.7 percent of their attempts from the field, going 34-for-61 from the floor.
The Dons had five players in double figures, led by Frankie Ferrari and Charles Minlend, who each had 22. Nate Renfro had 11, while Jamaree Bouyea and Jimbo Lull added 10 each. The Dons were outrebounded 34-27. Matt McCarthy joined elite company, with his four rebounds and four points he now has 821 career points and 650 career rebounds, he is the 16th player in USF history to achieve that feat, 14 of the previous 15 are in the USF Hall of Fame.
Ferrari now has 907 points for his career. At his current pace, he is set to eclipse 1,000 career points in the first matchup of the WCC Tournament. His nine assists gave him 363 for his career which moves him into fourth all-time. With his four made 3-point field goals he surpasses Gerald Walker (1992-96) and M.J. Nodilo (1993-98) to move into sole possession of seventh all-time.
USF does a tremendous job taking care of the basketball. The Dons are 12th in the nation in turnovers per game, averaging 10.4 per contest. Their 209 turnovers are the 16th fewest in the nation.

Why Bet on Gonzaga?
Gonzaga is one of a few unbeaten conference teams left and has a 2.5-game lead over second-place BYU in the WCC. The Zags’ star is junior forward Rui Hachimura. Averaging 20 points per game on 60 percent shooting, the Japanese-born Hachimura is much better this year and whose sensational combination of strength, quickness, and length (7-foot-2 wingspan) gives other forwards fits on both ends.
The Bulldogs won their 12th in a row Saturday, 85-69 over San Diego. The Toreros were undone by 17 turnovers and shot 46 percent to 53.7 percent for Gonzaga. They also played without injured guard Olin Carter III for the fifth straight game. Gonzaga has won nine straight against San Diego, who last beat them in 2014. The Bulldogs are coasting toward a seventh consecutive WCC regular-season title. They came in beating league opponents by an average of 31 points per game.
Hachimura had 32 points, sank 11 of 15 shots and added seven rebounds, and finished one point shy of tying his career high. Hachimura was named one of 10 candidates on the late season list for the 2019 Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award Wednesday. Hachimura is third in the West Coast Conference averaging 20.4 points per game. He is sixth in the league shooting 60.6 percent from the field and eighth grabbing 6.3 rebounds per game.
Senior Josh Perkins was named one of 10 candidates for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year. He is sixth in the country with 154 assists so far this season. He is averaging 6.7 assists per game, which ranks ninth in the country. Perkins leads the West Coast Conference in both of those categories, along with assist-to-turnover ratio (3.50). His 632 career assists are the third-most amongst active players in the country. Perkins boasts a 122-17 record in games he has played in as a Zag, including a 29-1 record in conference road games. He is eight assists from 640 in his career, which would move him to second on the program’s all-time list.
The Zags are first in the nation in field goal percentage (52.7 percent), first in scoring margin (24.9), first in scoring offense (91.2), first in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.77), and second with 431 total assists. Gonzaga is 33-2 all-time against the Dons in Spokane.
