Expert MLB Betting Picks of the Week – April 16th

We are a couple of weeks into the 2018 MLB betting season and it has to be said that there have been a number of surprises in the early going. There has also been some real chippy behavior, especially last week when it seemed as though we were seeing highlights of a bench-clearing brawl every night of the week. The teams who have gotten off to a fast start will be looking to maintain their winning ways and make it a habit, while those who have stumbled out the gate, especially some of the World Series odds favorites to win it all, will be looking to get back on track as quickly as possible.

Let’s look ahead at some of the series coming up this week to see if we can pick some winners.

Expert MLB Betting Picks of the Week – April 16th

American League Leaders

  • Boston Red Sox: 13-2
  • LA Angels: 13-3
  • Houston Astros: 10-4
  • Toronto Blue Jays: 9-5
  • Minnesota Twins: 7-4
  • Seattle Mariners: 8-5

National League Leaders

  • New York Mets: 12-2
  • Pittsburgh Pirates: 11-4
  • Arizona Diamondbacks: 11-4
  • Philadelphia Phillies: 9-5
  • St. Louis Cardinals: 9-7
  • Atlanta Braves: 8-6

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs – Monday to Wednesday

The NL Central looks as though it might deliver a tight race this season, with the Pittsburgh Pirates leading the way early on. The Cubs are down in 3rd and have a hard time hitting their stride because they have had so many postponed games to deal with. They will host the surging Cardinals, who have now won 4 in a row, in a 3-game series at Wrigley Field.

There are some really nice pitching match-ups in this series, but if I had to pick a winner in a single game, I would take the Cardinals as my MLB Betting Pick on Monday with Adam Wainwright on the mound. He has made a slow start and is due for a big performance.

Houston Astros vs. Seattle Mariners – Monday to Thursday

After flying out of the gate to start the season, the defending champion Houston Astros have hit a snag, losing back to back series to the Twins and Rangers. They still have plenty of time to work out the kinks but have what looks to be a tricky 4-game series on the road at the Seattle Mariners to start the week.

Charlie Morton has been the ace on the mound for the Astros in the early going, winning both stats and sitting with a 1.00 ERA. There looks to be a bit of a pitching mismatch set for the Thursday game, which is why I would be all over the Astros in that one.

Boston Red Sox vs. LA Angels – Tuesday to Thursday

This is arguably the best MLB Betting series this week, as both teams have made stellar starts to the season. The Red Sox are already opening up a big lead in the AL East, going 13-2 thus far, while the Angels are the surprise leaders of the AL West, getting things started with a 13-3 record.

Boston is on fire, which is why you should include them in your MLB Betting Picks of the week.

The Wednesday game would appear to be the must-watch game of the series, with Rick Porcello and Tyler Skaggs, both unbeaten, set to start in that one. Since both pitchers have glittering ERA’s to start the year, I would be tempted to go UNDER in this one.

Washington Nationals vs. LA Dodgers – Friday to Sunday

What we have here are a couple of early World Series favorites in desperate need of a win, as both have made very poor starts to the season. The Nationals are 7-9 to start the season and have been woeful at home. They are 2 games above .500 on the road, so this may be a welcome trip for them.

The Dodgers are inexplicably in the cellar in the West, winning just 3 of their last 10 games. Max Scherzer has been his usual brilliant best for the Nationals on the mound, going 3-1 with a 1.33 ERA. I like him to dominate again in the Friday game, so I am taking the Nats in that one.
