Julia Goerges (#13) vs Serena Williams (#25)
It’s fair to suggest that the appearance of Goerges in this Wimbledon semi-final is something of a surprise, especially when you consider that grass has not been her friend. She played a pair of tournaments on grass prior to playing here, losing in the quarter-finals in Birmingham before going out in the opening round in Eastbourne. Goerges has been good here, though, and she showed some real grit to come from a set down to Kiki Bertens in the quarter-finals. We have all been waiting for Serena Williams, former WTA No. 1, to get back to top form after taking time off to have a child, but it was beginning to look as though it might never happen. Serena has turned back the clock a little at this tournament, although she has been aided a little by some of the upsets that took place in the earlier rounds. As we mentioned earlier, a win at Wimbledon would be title #8 for Serena, proving she knows how to get the job done on Center Court. It has been 8 years since these two last met, with Serena winning both previous meetings. I like here to win again here and move on to the final.Jelena Ostapenko (#11) vs Angelique Kerber (#12)
It may come as a bit of a surprise to learn that these two have never met before, although, at 21 years of age, Ostapenko is still a relative newbie. What Ostapenko has quickly proven is that she seems to very much like the grass surface, going 8-1 in games played on it. She made it to the quarter-finals at Eastbourne, the tournament played prior to Wimbledon.
