Gold Cup Final Betting Preview: Mexico vs USA
Mexico is the stronger squad. When the Mexicans are on their game, they’re one of the best soccer teams in the world. Not only that, but the United States is missing Weston McKennie, Christian Pulisic, and Giovanni Reyna, three players that stepped onto the pitch in the U.S.’s 3-2 victory over Mexico at the Nations League Final.
Without Pulisic, Reyna, and McKennie, it may be difficult for the United States to generate offense. Ah, but U.S. head coach Gregg Berhalter knows this, which is why he’s switched the Americans’ strategy from an aggressive attack to a more European style of possession and defense.
Mexico controlled possession 70% of the time versus Trinidad and Tobago. The match ended in a draw. The Mexicans took 16 shots against El Salvador but only got a single goal.
Versus Canada, Mexico controlled possession 60% of the time and took 14 shots but beat the Canadians by a single goal in a 2-1 match. Don’t get us wrong, Mexico is the better team.
But the U.S. offers overlay odds on the moneyline. There’s also a chance this ends in a draw because the United States won’t take any chances. Back the U.S. or the draw. At +240, we’re willing to give the Americans a nod over El Tri.
