Heading into AAF Week 2, three of the eight teams have already signaled to football fans that they have what it takes to win the championship. Arizona, Orlando and Birmingham all won by massive margins.
Those 3 are in action again with Arizona a big -13 favorite over Memphis, Birmingham a -7 favorite against Salt Lake, and Orlando a -6 road favorite versus San Antonio. Will the favorites rule in AAF Week 2? Or, will the underdogs step it up?

Salt Lake Stallions at Birmingham Iron
- AAF Week 2 Odds: Salt Lake Stallions +7 / Birmingham Iron -7
Arizona dominated Salt Lake 38-22 in Week 1. Although the Stallions didn’t step it up at all, they did hang 22 points onto what many consider the top team in AAF. The bad news is that the Stallions defense yielded 4 touchdown passes to Zona quarterback John Wolford. Wolford also threw for 275 yards.
Birmingham quarterback Luis Perez only completed 19-of-33 versus the Memphis Express in the Iron’s impressive 26-0 win. Perez did scramble for 12 yards. Overall, though, the Iron didn’t play as well on offense as so many believe they did.
For example, Trent Richardson only averaged 2.5 yards per carry. The Stallions should have more success at stopping Birmingham’s offense than they did at stopping Arizona’s. Salt Lake only must lean on Branden Oliver more in the run game to pull off the straight up win. Taking the points is a no-brainer.
AAF Week 2 Pick: Salt Lake Stallions +7
Arizona Hotshots at Memphis Express
- AAF Week 2 Odds: Arizona Hotshots -13 / Memphis Express +13
Memphis’ defense played okay. The problem the Express has is at the quarterback position where former Penn State starter Christian Hackenburg isn’t any better in the AAF than he was in the NFL. Hackenburg was terrible in Week 1.
The Hotshots have a balanced attack. That should cause the Express some problems. Memphis has a good defense, but until they figure out the quarterback position, they’ll have no shot of keeping it close versus a team like Arizona.
AAF Week 2 Pick: Arizona Hotshots -13

Orlando Apollos at San Antonio Commanders
- AAF Week 2 Odds: Orlando Apollos -6 / San Antonio Commanders +6
The Apollos did dominate the Atlanta Legends in Week 1. But although the stat sheet displays exactly how Orlando overwhelmed the Legends, two running backs averaged over 7 yards per carry, the Apollos impressive win was more due to the Legends being ill-prepared than anything else.
San Antonio was well-prepared in their impressive 15-6 win over the San Diego Fleet. Quarterback Logan Woodside threw a couple of picks, but all he must do is make a few of adjustments to keep that from happening again. Also, San Antonio’s defense stepped it up.
The Commanders play an NFL like bend-but-don’t break that led to 2 picks. San Antonio could surprise Orlando on Sunday.
AAF Week 2 Pick: San Antonio Commanders +7
Atlanta Legends at San Diego Fleet
- AAF Week 2 Odds: Atlanta Legends +9 ½ / San Diego Fleet -9 ½
This is how bad Atlanta is. In an 8-team football league, the Legends are close to 10-point dogs on the road against a team that’s 0-1 straight up. San Diego only scored 6 points in Week 1 and they’re still close to 10-point favorites over Atlanta.
Will the Legends cover? Not even close. Like Memphis, Atlanta has no idea what to do at quarterback. Aaron Murray, who many thought might start, came in and looked good when completing 4-of-7, but he also threw a pick.
Starter Matt Sims was just bad in the loss to the Apollos. San Diego should dominate the Legends on Sunday. They’ll win by close to 20 points.
AAF Week 2 Pick: San Diego Fleet -9 ½
