Last Season

Air Force beat Navy 13-10 last year. Falcons QB Haaziq Daniels clinched the win for the Falcons with an 18-yard scamper on third-and-6 in Navy territory, allowing them to run out the clock. That was soon after Matthew Dapore connected on a 22-yard field goal with 4:14 left to give Air Force the lead. Daniels had 65 yards rushing to go with 156 through the air, including a 67-yard touchdown pass to David Cormier. Tai Lavatai tied the game at 10-apiece with 10:50 remaining with a 5-yard run on third-and-goal for Navy, which entered as a two-touchdown dog. Air Force leads the overall series, 33-22, and has won the past three. The Falcons beat Navy, 23-3, in 2021 in the last meeting in Annapolis to snap a streak of eight straight in the series won by the home team dating back to 2012.

Why Bet on Air Force?

Air Force beat Wyoming 34-27 on Saturday. Quarterback Zac Larrier led the Falcons with a career-high 111 yards on the ground to go with a third-quarter rushing touchdown. Through the air, Larrier completed six of nine passes for 58 yards and a touchdown. Larrier became the first QB in program history to start 6-0 since Arion Worthman was 6-0 in 2016-17. As a team, Air Force ran the football 53 times for 356 yards, averaging 6.7 yards per carry. The Falcons trailed 14-0 early.

Air Force improved to 6-0 overall for the first time since 2002. The Falcons improved to 4-0 in Mountain West play for the first time in program history. The last time the Falcons were 4-0 in conference play was 1997 in the Western Athletic Conference. Air Force was also 4-0 in the WAC in 1989 and a school-record 6-0 in WAC play in 1985. Air Force improved its winning streak to 11 games dating back to last season, which is the fourth-longest active streak in the FBS. The streak is tied as the second-longest in Air Force history with the 1998-99 teams. The longest streak in program history is 13, set from 1984-85.

Air Force has won six straight games on the road/neutral sites, including three straight in true road games, all in Mountain West play (San Diego State, UNLV, San Jose State). The Falcons have won 17 straight games when forcing two or more turnovers in a game. Air Force has won eight straight games vs. non-conference opponents. Air Force has gone three straight games allowing seven points or less in the second half. The Falcons have allowed seven or less in five of six games this season.

AFA became bowl eligible for the 14th time in 17 seasons with Troy Calhoun as head coach. This season is the fifth straight season to reach bowl eligibility. The Falcons are ranked for the first time since the final season poll in 2019 when the team was 22nd in the AP poll and 23rd in the coaches poll.

This week, Air Force will honor the Doolittle Raiders with the 2023 edition of the Air Power Legacy Series uniforms. Air Force won a series-record 21st Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy last year, its first since 2016.

The Falcons are the only Mountain West team and one of just three Group of 5 undefeated teams. Air Force is joined in the ranks of the undefeated by Florida State, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Liberty, Washington, Georgia and James Madison.

Why Bet on Navy?

Navy (3-3) comes off a 14-0 win at Charlotte on Sunday for its second shutout of the year. Freshman quarterback Braxton Woodson came off the bench for an injured Tai Lavatai and led Navy to 14 second-half points.

The game was scoreless at the half, but Woodson, who replaced Lavatai in the second series of the first quarter, hit sophomore slot back Eli Heidenreich with a 69-yard touchdown pass on Navy’s first drive of the third quarter to give the Mids a 7-0 lead. Woodson’s touchdown pass came on third-and-14 from its own 31 and he threw a laser between two defenders and Heidenreich took it the remaining 55 yards for a touchdown.

The Navy defense was sensational in holding the 49ers to 265 yards of total offense. The Mids broke up a season-high six passes, recorded seven tackles for a loss, four sacks and picked off two passes, while also recovering a fumble. It is the first time since 2008 that Navy has recorded two shutouts in a season.

Navy, Air Force and Penn State are the only 3 teams in the country that have not thrown an interception this year. The Mids are also 9th in the country in passing yards per completion, averaging 15.28. Air Force is #1 in the country in passing yards per completion, averaging 23.40. Navy is 5th in the country in rushing, averaging 235.7 yards per game, while Air Force is #1, averaging 334.2 yards per game. Navy’s defense ranks 2nd in the country in fumbles recovered with 8, tied for 2nd in turnovers lost with 3 and tied for 3rd in turnover margin at +1.50.

Navy will be looking for its third-straight win for the first time since 2019 when the Mids finished the season winning four in a row and included wins over Army and Kansas State in the Liberty Bowl. Navy has won the Commander-In-Chief’s trophy 11 of the last 20 years and has won 28 of the last 41 Service Academy contests against Air Force and Army, but is just 1-5 in those games over the last three years.

Navy has won the trophy a total of 16 times in school history: 1973, 1975, 1978, 1979, 1981, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2019.
