In any sport, knocking off the champion is never an easy task, which is what the racers in MotoGP are discovering this season. Francesco Bagnaia came into the season as the defending champion and is once again leading the way, albeit with a lot of races still to come. In fact, this weekend’s race in Austria will mark the midway point of the season, so there is still certainly plenty of time for the standing to change and for someone to get hot and take a real run at the World Championship. Those races have a way of coming and going quickly, so it’s important that someone gets hot now and makes this a championship battle worth watching. With all of that said, let’s take a look at the current top 4 in the racer standings to consider in your MotoGP betting odds.

Francesco Bagnaia
MotoGP Odds: -800
As we mentioned at the top of this piece, Bagnaia is going all out to defend the championship that he won last season. When he won his first championship in 2022, Bagnaia did so by winning 7 races over the course of the season. He is already on pace to beat that number, winning 4 races to this point in the season. He has also finished 2nd in a couple of races, making it very clear that he is not about to give up his crown without a fight. It was around this time last year that he went on a 4-race winning streak, with one of those victories coming in Austria.

Jorge Martin
MotoGP Odds: +870
As we approach the midway point of the season, Martin finds himself 2nd in the standings, 43 points off the pace set by Bagnaia. While he is very much in the hunt for a World Championship, he needs to break out of the mild funk he has been on over the last couple of races. While those runs have not been terrible, finishing 5th and 6th, respectively, means that he is losing some ground to the defending champion. Martin could use a much better performance this weekend and really does need it if he is to keep pace with the leader. He was 10th in Austria last year.

Marco Bezzecchi
MotoGP Odds: +830
Bezzecchi is another racer who could well have something to say about how things play out this season, but he will need to shake off a disappointing run at the British Grand Prix, where he was forced to retire and failed to pick up any points. He cannot afford to have many more of those days if he is to close the gap at the top. He is 7 points out of 2nd right now, but with 2 wins already this season, he does have the ability to pick up checkered flags and valuable points. He has not been great in Austria, but a top 5 finish this weekend seems possible.

Brad Binder
MotoGP Odds: +4900
It is possible for a racer outside of the top 3 to come good and make a run in the second half of the season, but who might that racer be? You’d like to suggest that Binder could be the guy, but his lack of wins is a problem. He has only won twice at this level in three and a half seasons, so can we really expect him to suddenly start taking checkered flags on a regular basis? He does land on the podium quite a bit, so a top 3 or top 5 finish might not be a bad bet.
