Talladega Super Speedway’s a restrictor plate track. At restrictor plate tracks, a plate’s placed between the cars carburetor and the intake manifold to reduce the flow of air and fuel into the combustion chamber. It means that drivers and crews that have had success racing at tracks like Talladega most likely will have success again.
Joey Logano has 2 wins from 5 races at Talladega since February 2016. His average start is 12.4. His average finish is 12.6. Logano heads to Alabama after a 3rd place finish at Dover. He can take the checkered flag at decent +800 odds.
2018 1000Bulbs.com 500 Pick: Joey Logano Smart Choices- Chase Elliott +1200
- Denny Hamlin +1200
- Kevin Harvick +1200
- Kyle Busch +1200
- Ryan Blaney +1200
Dover winner Chase Elliott has way more to gain from winning at Talladega then Kevin Harvick or Kyle Busch. Elliott sits in 5th place in the NASCAR Playoffs Standings. If he doesn’t jump into the Top 4, he doesn’t race for the championship at Homestead.
Elliott doesn’t have a win at Talladega in the last 5 races. He does have 2 Top 5 finishes, though. Chase knows he must make up ground on the current Top 4. He’ll put Harvick and Kyle Busch in his rearview line of sight while trying to catch Logano in the final 10 laps.
2018 1000Bulbs.com 500 Pick: Chase Elliott Underdogs- Kurt Busch +1500
- Martin Truex Jr. +2500
- Erik Jones +2500
- Jimmie Johnson +2500
- Kyle Larson +3000
Kurt Busch isn’t a massive underdog at +1500, but he has been the most consistent driver at Talladega since February 2016. Busch has 4 Top 10’s from 5 races. His average finish is 9th. Still, Erik Jones might be the better play.
Jones offers more value than Busch while he won at Daytona, another restrictor plate track, back in July. Jones did have trouble finishing 39th way back in April at Talladega. He should have a much better race on Sunday, especially, after finishing 4th at Dover last weekend.
2018 1000Bulbs.com 500 Pick: Erik Jones
