We take a closer look at the odds to win the 2018 AAA Texas 500.

Favorites to Win the 2018 AAA Texas 500

  • Kevin Harvick             +275
  • Kyle Busch                 +325
  • Martin Truex Jr.          +400
  • Brad Keselowski         +700
  • Kyle Larson                +700
Harvick offers low odds, but the last time they battled at Texas Motor Speedway, he finished second. He’s had a terrible time of late, not even coming close to Top 5 finishes. Because Harvick and his crew are motivated, picking him on top makes sense.

But, the odds just aren’t there. Kyle Busch won the last race at Texas Motor Speedway. He offers better odds than what Harvick offers while also finishing 4th at Martinsville in NASCAR’s last and 2nd at Kansas two races ago. Kyle looks poised for a win.

2018 AAA Texas 500 Pick: Kyle Busch +325

Smart Choices

  • Chase Elliott               +1000
  • Ryan Blaney               +1200
  • Joey Logano                +1200
  • Clint Bowyer              +2000
  • Kurt Busch                  +2000
Elliott and Kurt Busch are looking for victories that will propel them into the NASCAR Playoffs Top 4. Both are worth a look. So is Joey Logano, but I’m not sure Kurt Busch, Elliott, or Logano are the drivers to back in the Smart Choices category.

The driver who looks best here is Ryan Blaney. Blaney tends to drive well over specific tracks. He finished 7th at Kansas, he won at Charlotte, and he also finished 5th at Michigan. At Texas Motor Speedway in April, Blaney finished 5th at Texas.

2018 AAA Texas 500 Pick: Ryan Blaney +500

Underdogs

  • Denny Hamlin +2200
  • Aric Almirola +2500
  • Erik Jones +4000
  • Jimmie Johnson +5000
  • Alex Bowman +6600
Jones, even at +4000, is the easiest pick in this group. Before his 26th place finish at Martinsville, Jones finished 4th, 8th, and 4th at Dover, Talladega, and Kansas. He finished in the Top 5, another 4th, in the last race at Texas.

The +4000 odds make Erik Jones the overlay pick on the board. He’s got a huge shot of taking the AAA Texas 500 on Sunday.
