Paddy Donovan vs Lewis Ritson
Ritson has a terrific record. The +650 underdog is 23-3 with 13 knockout victories. But Ritson has lost 2 of his last 4 via knockout. Jeremias Ponce beat Ritson via tenth round TKO. Then in his last, Ritson lost to Ohara Davies via ninth round KO.
Paddy Donovan is going to take advantage of Ritson’s soft chin. The favorite in this boasts a 13-0 record with 10 stoppage victories. Donovan has won his last 4 via technical knockout. The chalk ends the challenger’s night well before the final bell.

Cheavon Clarke vs Ellis Zorro
There’s a reason to expect favored Cheavon Clarke to dominate Ellis Zorro. Clarke is 8-0 with 6 stoppage wins. In his last, Clarke decimated then 20-5 Tommy McCarthy via a fourth round technical knockout victory.
But although Clarke has looked great in his fights, Zorro is 17-1. Ellis lost his last bout via a left hook to the chin off the glove of Jai Opetaia. In other words, Zorro got caught. Ellis should bounce back with a top effort. The odds make the underdog playable.

Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall
Taylor returns to the ring for the first time since losing via unanimous decision in a bout against Teofimo Lopez at Madison Square Garden. Up until facing Teofimo, Taylor had won all 19 of his bouts. He had won 13 of them via knockout or technical knockout.
Catterall’s lone loss came via a split decision versus Taylor in 2022. Since then, Catterall has won 2 straight. It appears that Catterall’s career is about to take off while Taylor’s looks to be on the downside of his career. Give Jack the nod.

Arslanbek Makhmudov vs Junior Fa
Junior Fa is in trouble. The record, 20-3, suggests Fa has a chance. But a closer look reveals Junior is going down. All 3 of Fa’s losses have happened in 3 of his last 4 bouts. The only winning performance came against a 0-6 fighter.
Arslanbek Makhmudov is going to win this. He’s not only going to win this, but he’s going to win this by knockout or technical knockout. Makhmudov is 18-1 with 17 stoppage victories. Go under and look for a KO prop on the chalk.

Christian Mbili vs Mark Heffron
Here’s another Saturday boxing match where the chalk looks unbeatable. Christian Mbili is 26-0 with 22 stoppage wins. Mbili faces an opponent that has suffered 3 knockout losses in his career.
No doubt, the -3000 choice is going to rock Heffron. Look for a knockout prop for sure before backing Mbili on the moneyline. Also, consider going under once oddsmakers set a round total.

Jim Sasaki vs Joe Noynay
Before the action gets started in Riyadh, Sasaki and Noynay throw down for the WBO Asia Pacific Welterweight title. Noynay has a good 23-3-2 record, but Sasaki is 16-1-1 and will have the home crowd behind him. Sasaki gets the win.

Agit Kabayel vs Frank Sanchez
24-0 Kabayel also has 16 knockout wins to his credit. But he’s up against one of the better heavyweights in the division on Saturday. The odds on Frank Sanchez make the Cuban star an overlay because Sanchez has fought in the U.S. while Kabayel has built his record fighting in Germany.

Joe Cordina vs Anthony Cacace
We can make a case for the +425 underdog in this. Anthony Cacace has a decent 21-1 record. But Cacace doesn’t appear to have a ton of power because he shows just 7 stoppage victories.
Joe Cordina is 17-0 with 9 KO or TKO wins. The favorite is younger than Cacace and should wear down his older opponent in the later rounds.

Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk
Fury versus Usyk is one of the most anticipated bouts of the year. Tyson Fury didn’t look good facing a boxer in his first professional match, Francis Ngannou. In fact, Fury was all out to win a split decision after Ngannou knocked down Tyson.
The problem Fury is going to have in this fight is that Usyk does everything well. Technically, Usyk has a massive edge. If Fury tries his usual brand of boxing, employing tactics that often frustrate his opponents, Oleksandr will counter with good old counter punching. Usyk wins.

Brandon Moore is 14-0 with 8 stoppage wins. But although Moore has a decent record, he hasn’t come close to facing a boxer with Richard Torrez’s talent.

Charlie Sheehy vs Manuel Jaimes
Sheehy is 9-0 with 5 stoppage wins. The likely favorite in this takes on a 15-1-1 boxer who has knocked out 11 opponents. Although Sheehy has a decent record, he’s going to be hard-pressed to beat a boxer of Manual Jaimes’ talents.
This one could go down to the wire, though. So make sure to look further into both fighter’s styles, and possibly lean toward backing Sheehy since he appears to have the slightly better feet, before choosing your winner. We’re going with Sheehy.

Alan Garcia vs Wilfredo Flores
34 year old Wilfredo Flores has a nice 10-2-1 record with 5 stoppage wins. But Flores is up against it versus Alan Garcia, who boasts a 12-0 undefeated mark.
Garcia isn’t just undefeated. He’s won 10 of his bouts via stoppage, which means the 21 year old does most things well. Garcia is an up and comer. Promoters don’t put up and comers against boxers that can beat them. Garcia gets the KO win.

Rhys Edwards vs Thomas Patrick Ward
Cardiff, Wales – Peacock
Underdog Thomas Patrick Ward has a terrific 34-1-1 record. But although the record is stunning, Ward doesn’t have much power. He’s won just 5 bouts via knockout or technical knockout.
Rhys Edwards also doesn’t have a lot of power. Edwards is 15-0 with 4 stoppage wins. But Edwards has the slightly better feet, which means he will be in a top position to land more punches. The favorite prevails.
Betting Rhys Edwards vs Thomas Patrick Ward Bout
Pick to Win:
Rhys Edwards
Boxing Odds:

Denzel Bentley vs Danny Dignum
Cardiff, Wales – Peacock
16-1-1 Danny Dignum is a good boxer. Dignum shows 9 stoppage wins from the 16 bouts. Also, Dignum bounced back from a loss to Zhanibek Alimkhanuly by winning his last two.
Bentley is 18-3-1. The problem Dignum will have in this is keeping Bentley from landing his power shots. Denzel has knocked out 15 of his opponents. Look for KO prop before betting Bentley on the moneyline.

Jessica McCaskill vs Lauren Price
WBA Women’s Welterweight Title
Cardiff, Wales – Peacock
The underdog in this boasts a terrific 12-3-1 record. But Jessica McCaskill is now 39 years old. It’s going to be tough for McCaskill to keep up with the 27 year old Lauren Price.
Price is 6-0 with a single stoppage victory. She doesn’t have top power. What she does have is great footwork. In the later rounds, McCaskill slows down enough for Price to take advantage.
Betting Jessica McCaskill vs Lauren Price Bout
Pick to Win:
Lauren Price
Boxing Odds:
Jessica McCaskill +300 / Lauren Price -500 | Boxing Fight Odds Tonight
Andrew Moloney vs Pedro Guevara
WBC Interim Junior Bantamweight Title
Perth, Australia – ESPN/ESPN+
Pedro Guevara has terrific experience. The +180 underdog is 41-4-1 with 22 stoppage wins. But Guevara has fought mainly in Mexico and lost his last bout against a somewhat name opponent, Carlos Cuadras.
Guevara is also 34 years old, which may impede his chances versus the younger Moloney. The Moloney bros usually take on fighters they can beat in front of their countrymen. This will be no different. The chalk takes this.
Betting Andrew Moloney vs Pedro Guevara Bout
Pick to Win:
Andrew Moloney
Boxing Odds:
Andrew Moloney -225 / Pedro Guevara +180 | Boxing Fight Odds Tonight
Vasyl Lomachenko vs George Kambosos Jr.
IBF Lightweight Title
Perth, Australia – ESPN/ESPN+
Records don’t matter much in the fight between Loma and Kambosos. The +475 underdog is one of the toughest dudes, if not the toughest, in the division. Kambosos is a straight up pit bull.
But he doesn’t have the footwork to contend with Lomachenko. Loma is going to run circles around Kambosos on Saturday night. Vasyl will do whatever he wants. So don’t be surprised if Lomachenko ends Kambosos’ night early with a stunning knockout.

Boxing Bets Online: Emanuel Rodriguez -260; Ryosuke Nishida +200
IBF World Bantamweight Title
Saturday, May 4th, 2024
Osaka, Japan
Emanuel Rodriguez has much more experience than Ryosuke Nishida. While Nishida boasts an 8-0 record, Rodriguez is 22-2 with 13 stoppage wins. The -260 favorite travels to Nishida’s home nation of Japan, which tells us he’s not afraid to wade into his opponent’s territory.
Not only that, but Nishida has just a single win via stoppage. So it appears that Rodriguez also has a power edge. Ah, but there’s a reason Nishida wins via decisions. He doesn’t put himself into harm’s way. Give Ryosuke the nod.

Gabriel Maestre takes a major step up in class. The +750 underdog has won 6-of-7 bouts with a draw. Maestre has scored 5 technical knockout or knockout victories.
On Saturday, Maestre takes on a fighter that is 14-0 with 9 stoppage wins. Also, Maestre is 37 and Stanionis is much younger. The underdog has a great chin, but there’s a first time for everything. Back Stanionis to end this before the final bell.

Boxing Bets Online: Mario Barrios -110; Fabian Maidana +650
WBC Interim Welterweight Title
Saturday, May 4th, 2024 | Prime PPV and DAZN PPV
Las Vegas DAZN
Maidana has a terrific 22-2 record with 16 stoppage wins. The issue with backing Maidana is that, first, he’s fought primarily in Argentina where the boxing gyms aren’t close to the ones in Mexico and the United States.
Second, the +650 underdog takes on one of the top fighters in the division in Mario Barrios. Barrios has lost twice in his career. Both losses were to potential boxing hall of famers Gervonta Davis and Keith Thurman. Barrios won’t lose Maidana. Look for a knockout prop or bet over or under the total before backing Mario at -1100.

The -1400 chalk should win this. Brandon Figueroa is 24-1-1 with 18 stoppage wins. The Heartbreaker, that’s Figueroa’s nickname, heads into this after wins versus Carlos Castro and Mark Magsayo.
Jessie Magdaleno is 29-2 with 18 stoppage victories. Magdaleno lost his last, but it was versus top boxer Raymond Ford. Ah, but Ford dropped Magdaleno in the fourth and eleventh rounds. Jessie will fight hard, but he may have lost a step. Figueroa ends Magdaleno’s night early.

Boxing Bets Online: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez -525; Jaime Munguia +350
Super Middleweight Undisputed Championship
Saturday, May 4th, 2024 | Prime PPV and DAZN PPV
Las Vegas DAZN
Many complain that Alvarez dodges the toughest fights. On Saturday night, Canelo isn’t dodging anybody. Jaime Munguia is the real deal.
The +350 underdog is 43-0 with 34 stoppage wins. Munguia destroyed Jon Ryder in his last, dropping Ryder in the second and fourth rounds and dropping Ryder twice in the ninth. Munguia has no fear, which will make him tough for Canelo to beat.
Not only that, but Munguia is 27 years old while Alvarez is 33. The 6 years difference could play a part in this if Munguia starts landing his power shots. The younger fighter knows how change his level to throw straights to his opponents midsection. Canelo may have to many rounds in him to take on a young, hungry, explosive fighter like Jaime Munguia. Give the dog a chance to bite.

Now, let’s find out who’s in action and what are the Vegas Odds Boxing tonight.
Trio of Title Fights Highlights Top Boxing Picks of the Week – May 27th Edition
Taylor vs. Persoon
10 rounds
WBA/WBO/IBF/WBC women’s lightweight unification
When: June 1st
Ireland native Katie Taylor is 32-years-old and stands 5’5” with a 65-inch reach. Taylor comes into this bout off a stunning ninth round KO win over Rose Volante in March. Belgium native Delfine Persoon is 34-years-old and she’s won an amazing 34 consecutive fights dating back to 2010 including a seventh round retirement win over Melissa St. Vil in March.
Callum Smith vs. N’Dam
12 rounds
Smith’s WBA super middleweight title
When: June 1st
Englishman Callum Smith is 29-years-old and stands 6’3” with a 78-inch reach. The reigning champ won the WBA super-middleweight title by stopping George Groves via seventh round KO in September following a pair of unanimous decision wins in his previous two bouts. Cameroon native Hassan N’Dam is 35-years-old and stands 5’11” with a 74-inch reach. The challenger comes into this bout off a majority decision win over Martin Murray in December after losing his previous bout via seventh round retirement against Ryota Murata in October of 2017.
Prediction
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Callum Smith is the younger, bigger and stronger fighter in this championship pairing. Not only that, but Smith has never been beaten and that alone tells me that unless he faces another elite fighter, he’s almost certainly going to win. I’m going with Callum Smith to retain his title via seventh round KO no less.
Pick: Callum Smith Via Seventh Round KO
Joshua vs. Ruiz Jr.
12 rounds
Joshua’s IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight title
Opening Boxing Lines: Ruiz +1120 / Joshua -2080
When: June 1st
29-year-old Californian Andy Ruiz stands 6’2” with a 74-inch reach. He’s won three straight fights including his fifth round stoppage (retirement) win against Alexander Dimitrenko in April. Ruiz Jr believe he can pull off the huge upset over the reigning champ.
“This is my chance to make history,” said Ruiz Jr. “I want to be one of those greats like Julio Cesar Chavez, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis. I want to be in that category.
29-year-old British native Anthony Joshua stands 6’6” with an 82-inch reach as he gets set to make his U.S. debut in this bout. The three belt title holder comes into this bout off an emphatic seventh round TKO win over Alexander Povetkin in September. The win came after Joshua failed to record a knockout for this first time in his career in his previous bout against Joseph Parler in March of 2018.
“Ruiz Jr is a different kind of challenge but one I embrace,” said Joshua. “We have worked in the boxing gym week on week and whoever is put in front of me at Madison Square Garden on June 1 will be dispatched in style. The rent will be collected.”
Prediction
Andy Ruiz is a really good fighter, but he’s not in the same class of elite heavyweights that Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury are in. Joshua is the bigger, stronger fighter in this pairing, plus he’s got the much longer reach and a ton of motivation to not lose his belts in what would be a major upset. Keep it simple and back Anthony Joshua to get the win – via eighth round KO.
Pick: Anthony Joshua Via 8th Round KO

Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – May 20th Edition
Previous Betting News
Okay fight fans and boxing odds Vegas aficionados, while this coming week’s slate of pugilistic action is going to be a bit hard-pressed to reproduce the ‘super exciting’ one-punch knockout finish we saw from Deontay Wilder on Saturday night, you’re still going to have a pair of great chances to cash in with a potentially winning wager when two title fights go down from polar opposite ends of the earth.
Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – May 20th Edition
Wanheng Menayothin vs. Tatsuya Fukuhara, Rematch, 12 rounds, for Menayothin’s WBC Strawweight title
When: May 24: Chonburi, Thailand
WBC strawweight champion, Wanheng Menayothin (52-0, 18 KOs) will put his belt on the line in an intriguing rematch against Japan’s Tatsuya Fukuhara (21-6-6, 7 KOs).
The 33-year-old Menayothin stands 5’2” with a beat Fukuhara via unanimous decision back in November of 2017 and he’s won three straight since then including a six round unanimous decision win over Mektison Marganti in November.
The 30-year-old Fukuhara stand 5’4” with a 63-inch reach. The challenger has won two straight since his loss to Menayothin including his unanimous decision win over Naoya Haruguchi in July.
Prediction
Wanheng Menayothin is unbeaten in a whopping 52 career fights and should probably be getting some serious recognition for his achievement. Whether he gets that recognition or not, Menayothin is the easy pick to get the win in this bout seeing as how Tatsuya Fukuhara has lost two of his last four fights and just possess the tools – or punching power – necessary to beat an experienced champion that is better in every facet of the game. This one will go down as another unanimous decision win for the reigning champ.
Boxing Betting Pick: Wanheng Menayothin Via Unanimous Decision
Masayuki Ito vs. Jamel Herring, 12 rounds, for Ito’s WBO junior lightweight title
When: May 25 Kissimmee, Fla. (ESPN/ESPN Deportes)
Where: Kissimmee Civic Center, Kissimmee, FL
Masayuki Ito (25-1-1, 13 KOs) is 28-years-old and stands 5’8½ inches. He’s won nine straight fights coming into this title bout including a stunning seventh round knockout win over Evgeny Chuprakov in December. Former U.S. Olympian Jamel Herring (19-2, 10 KOs) is 33-years-old and stands 5’10” with a 70-inch reach. Herring has won three straight fights including a unanimous decision win over Adelison Dos Santos in December.
Prediction
I like Jamel Herring, but I’ll be honest and admit that while he’s a good fighter, he’s not great by any stretch of the imagination and I fully believe he’s reached the peak of his abilities while Masayuki Ito is still in the midst of his prime. The reigning champ is the better technical fighter and while he doesn’t have the power punching edge in this affair, I am expecting Ito to out-box and out-class Jamel Herring in this title bout. I’m going with Masayuki Ito to get the win via unanimous decision.
Boxing Betting Pick: Masayuki Ito Via Unanimous Decision.
Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – May 13th Edition
Previous Betting News
The world of boxing tends to blow a little hot and cold, as we go few short periods where there are no big fights on tap followed by a flurry of activity where there are a lot of big bouts on the horizon. That is where we are at this week, as the coming weekend has several big fights primed and ready to go.
The beauty here is that the locations of these fights mean that we can essentially watch them all without any crossover. We have fights in Glasgow, Scotland and others in New York City highlighting the action, so let’s jump right into the boxing fight odds tonight.
Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – May 13th Edition
Ivan Baranchyk vs Josh Taylor
Boxing Odds: Baranchyk +460 / Taylor -620
We get the ball rolling with an IBF Junior Welterweight Title bout on Saturday night in Glasgow. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Josh Taylor is sure to have the crowd on his side for this one as he looks to extend his career mark to 15 fights unbeaten.
This will be the 3rd straight fight that Taylor has had at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, so he should certainly be comfortable there. He is up against a tough opponent in Ivan Baranchyk, as the Russian is coming into this one with a perfect 19-0 professional record. At the end of the day, though, the hometown boy should come good.
Naoya Inoue vs Emmanuel Rodriguez
Boxing Odds: Inoue -870 / Rodriguez +620
This is the headline event on the Glasgow card, with this one being for the IBF WBA World Bantamweight Title. Inoue is in as a massive favorite for this one, which is not really much of a surprise given that he has closed out each of his last two title fights in the opening round. He has won 15 of his 17 professional bouts by KO.
Rodriguez won the vacant IBF title versus Paul Butler, and then defended it in a split decision win in his last fight. I don’t see a decision needed here, as Inoue should get this done quickly.
Deontay Wilder vs Dominic Breazeale
Boxing Odds: Wilder -835 / Breazeale +585
The big boys are up next, with the battle for the WBC World Heavyweight Title the highlight of the main card in Brooklyn on Saturday night. Deontay Wilder won this title back in 2015, successfully defending it 8 times since then.
The closest he came to losing it was in his last defense when he fought to a draw with Tyson Fury. You have a feeling that we are looking at a rematch there, as this one looks like a filler against a much lesser opponent. Wilder gets this one done quickly.
Kiko Martinez vs Gary Russell Jr.
Boxing Odds: TBA
We move to Brooklyn on Saturday night for the next two fights in our preview, starting out with this one, a 12-round bout for the WBC World Featherweight Title. This will be the 3rd defense of the title for Russell Jr., who won the belt with a KO of Patrick Hyland back in 2016.
His first defense was an easy win, but he was made to go the distance in his last defense versus Joseph Diaz. It has been a year since Martinez last fought, winning the EBU European Featherweight Title. I like Russell Jr. to win this one early.

Boxing Events in MyBookie: Huge Boxing Matches on Saturday Night
Saturday, May 1st Fights
Natasha Jonas +420 / Katie Taylor -570
Most believe this is too much too soon for 9-1-1 Natasha Jonas. The UK boxer has knocked out 7 of her opponents, though. Katie Taylor is 17-0 with 6 knockout wins. These two fought at the 2012 Olympics. The fight happened way too long ago to mean anything. Jonas has a tight defense, which could get her into some trouble in this. Taylor likes to box with her jab forward. The chalk looks tough.
Boxing Pick: Katie Taylor
Craig Richards +1500 / Dimitry Bivol -5000
Now 17-0 with 11 knockout wins, light heavyweight champ Dimitry Bivol is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Bivol has all the tools, a jab, a right, left hook. He can fight inside or outside. Craig Richards has a nice 16-1-1 record. He fights with abandon. In some ways, that’s a good thing. Against Bivol, it will lead to disaster. Wait for round odds, and then choose the one where you think Dimitry disposes of his opponent. We like the fifth and the sixth.
Boxing Pick: Bivol wins in Round 5 or Round 6
Joseph Parker -180 / Dereck Chisora +150
Two veterans step into the ring when Dereck Chisora takes on Joseph Parker. Derek “War” Chisora is 32-10 with 23 knockouts. Now 37, Chisora is an old school, throw down, fighter. He’s not afraid of anything, including getting knocked out. 27-2 Joseph Parker has knocked out 21 of his opponents. Parker hasn’t lost since 2018. Chisora could get lucky and land a good punch. More than likely? Parker wins this with few, if any, issues.
Boxing Pick: Joseph Parker
Javier Molina +500 / Jesus Alejandro Ramos -1000
22-3 Javier Molina is a decent boxer. With only 9 knockouts, he doesn’t have a ton of power, though. Jesus Alejandro Ramos is 15-0 with 14 knockouts. JAR’s power should be the difference in this. Wait for round odds and play a couple. The sixth and seventh look best.
Boxing Pick: Jesus Alejandro Ramos wins Round 6 or Round 7
Abel Ramos -160/ Omar Figueroa Jr. +130
Ramos versus Figueroa may be the most competitive match of the night. Omar Figueroa Jr. is 28-1-1 with 19 knockouts. Yordenis Ugas beat Figueroa in his last fight. Abel Ramos is 26-4-2 with 20 knockouts. Ugas also beat Ramos in Abel’s last fight. Figueroa has a shot but Ramos lost to Ugas via split-decision. He should do just enough for a decision victory on May 1.
Boxing Pick: Abel Ramos
Jorge Cota +500 / Sebastian Fundora -1000
Sebastian Fundora has won 11 of his 16 bouts via knockout or technical knockout. The super welterweight is 6’ 5 ½” and has an 80” reach. Jorge Cota is at a serious disadvantage in terms of length. But Cota has fought some of the toughest guys in the world including Jermell Charlo and Jeison Rosario. Fundora should win this fight. Cota is the best fighter Fundora has faced. The underdog may be savvy enough to pull off the stunning win.
Boxing Pick: Jorge Cota
Thomas Lamanna +1205 / Erislandy Lara -2365
Thomas Lamanna is a tough guy but he’s up against it versus Erislandy Lara. The former champion is 23-3-3 with 15 knockouts. He’ll use everything in his arsenal to beat Lamanna in what should be an entertaining, albeit one-sided, fight. Lamanna has gotten knocked out twice. So if you want to back a couple of rounds, go for it. To be honest, though, Lara could decide to stretch this one out and win via decision.
Boxing Pick: Erislandy Lara
Chris Arreola +1210 / Andy Ruiz Jr. -2380
Chris Arreola hasn’t fought since 2019. When he enters the ring, he may hold more spare tires around his midsection than Andy Ruiz Jr. That’s saying something. In any case, Ruiz Jr. wins this by knockout. So think about the round Ruiz ends the fight. This shouldn’t last long. Third round or fourth round most likely.
Boxing Pick: Andy Ruiz Jr. wins in Round 3 or Round 4

Previous Betting News
Okay boxing betting fan, while this coming week’s trio of championship title fights might not be getting the same international recognition that this past weekend’s middleweight title fight between Canelo Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs did, make no mistake about it, you’re going to have three great chances to cash in on a trio of title fights that all have the look of thrilling affairs just waiting to happen. Now, let’s find out who’s in action and where the best betting value lies in all three title fights.
Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – May 6th Edition
Miguel Berchelt (35-1, 31 KOs) vs. Francisco Vargas (25-1-2, 13 KOs)
When: May 11, 2019
Where: Convention Center in Tucson, Arizona
Reigning WBC super featherweight champ Miguel Berchelt is 27-years-old and stands 5’7” with a 71-inch reach. The champ will be looking to pull off his fifth straight title defense since beating Francisco Vargas back in January of 2017 for the title. Berchelt stopped Miguel ‘Mickey’ Roman via a stunning ninth round TKO in November with the win marking his third straight TKO finish after he stopped Jonathan Victor and Maxwell Awuku in the third round in each of his two previous fights.
Challenger Francisco Vargas is 34-years-old and stands 5’8” with a 70-inch reach. Vargas won the WBC super featherweight title by stopping Takashi Miura back in November of 2015 before making one successful title defense the following June against Orlando Salido and then losing his belt to Berchelt in January of 2017 on an 11th round KO. Since then, Vargas has won two straight and comes into this one off a sixth round retirement from Rod Salka in April of 2018.
Prediction
Fernando Vargas is an excellent world class fighter that has only suffered one loss in his career, but he’s facing another clearly gifted pugilist that is seven years younger and has far more punching power. I’m not expecting Vargas to get knocked out like he did the last time he faced Miguel Berchelt, but he is going down nevertheless, this time by unanimous decision.
Boxing Betting Pick: Miguel Berchelt Via Unanimous Decision
Emanuel Navarrete (26-1, 22 KOs) vs. Isaac Dogboe (20-1, 14 KOs)
When: May 11, 2019
Where: Convention Center in Tucson, Arizona
TV: ESPN
Former WBO super bantamweight champ Isaac Dogboe is 24-years-old and stands 5’2” with a 66-inch reach. The native of Ghana suffered his only loss as a professional by dropping a huge unanimous decision upset defeat against Emmanuel Navarrete in December.
Emmanuel Navarrete is also 24-years-old and he stands 5’7” with a 72-inch reach. Since losing the sixth fight of his professional career, Navarrete has won an impressive 21 straight fights. More importantly, the new champ recorded eight straight stoppage finishes before upsetting Dogboe for the belt the last time he took to the ring.
Prediction
For this championship title fight, I;m going to urge you to back Emmanuel Navarrete to get the big win for a handful of solid reasons. First, the reigning champ is the bigger fighter with the longer reach. Next, he’s got far more punching power than Isaac Dogboe and last but not least, he’s got the slight edge in ring experience with 27 career fights to Dogboe’s 21 career bouts. This fight won’t end in a stoppage simply because these are two elite fighters I expect to be at their very best. However, I’m going with the reigning champ to retain his belt via unanimous decision.
Boxing Betting Pick: Emmanuel Navarrete Via Unanimous Decision
Jarrett Hurd (23-0, 16 KOs) vs. Julian Williams (26-1-1, 16 KOs)
When: May 11, 2019
Where: EagleBank Arena, Farifax , VA
TV: Fox/Fox Deportes
Julian ‘J Rock’ Williams is 29-years-old and stands 5’11” with a 73-inch reach. The Philadelphia native has won four straight fights since failing in his bid to win the IBF middleweight title against Jermall Charlo in October of 2016. Williams comes into this affair off a stellar second round KO win over Francisco Javier Castro in December. Williams has recorded six knockouts in his last eight fights and says he’s fully prepared to throwing everything he has at the reigning champ this coming weekend.
“I bring multiple different things to the table that nobody has been able to show Jarrett Hurd, along with the things that gave him problems with other fighters that he’s fought in the last two or three years,” Williams said.
“Swift” Jarrett Hurd is 28-years-old and stands 5’11” with a 78-inch reach. The Maryland native is unbeaten in his career and comes into this bout off a stunning fourth round KO win over Jason Welborn in December that was his third straight title defense after he took the vacant belt by beating Tony Harrison via ninth round TKO in February of 2017. Now, Hurd will get to show off his skills in front of a ‘home’ crowd.
“I couldn’t be happier to be fighting at home for the first time as a champion,” said Hurd. “My hometown has been asking me to bring the championship back home and now I can. Julian Williams is a tough opponent and I don’t see him as a stepping stone. He’s crafty, technical and fundamentally sound. I want to go out and get a decisive win and show that I’m on a different level than everybody else in the division.”
Prediction
I know Julian Williams hails from my hometown of Philadelphia and that alone means he’s going to throw everything he as Jarrett Hurd except the kitchen sink, but for me, Jarrett Hurd is the slightly better fighter, not to mention he’s got the more impressive list of opponents with none likely being better than Tony Harrison, the reigning WBC light middleweight title holder. While I’m not prepared to predict a knockout by Jarrett Hurd, I do like the champ to retain his title in a straight-up brawl that produces a unanimous decision win for Hurd. No one has beaten Jarrett Hurd so far and I don’t see it happening in this affair either.
Boxing Betting Pick: Jarrett Hurd Via Unanimous Decision
Expert Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – May 28th
Previous Betting News
Mixed martial arts has overtaken boxing in terms of popularity in the USA and betting action at Mybookie.ag. That said, this coming weekend is one of the best of the year in the sweet science with a handful of title fights around the world. Here’s a look at the latest Boxing Betting Odds and picks for the upcoming days.
Expert Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – May 28th
Jeff Horn vs. Terence Crawford
Boxing Betting Odds: Horn +665 / Crawford -930
This is the biggest bout of the weekend and is streamed on ESPN+ from Las Vegas. Crawford is ranked as the No. 3 pound-for-pound fighter in the world by Ring Magazine and is the -930 Mybookie.ag favorite even though Horn is the WBO welterweight champion and puts his title on the line.
Horn (18-0-1, 12 KOs), of Australia, is due to make his second title defense against former undisputed junior welterweight world champion Crawford (32-0, 23 KOs), an American, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. After dominating the junior welterweight division, Crawford now has his sights set on Horn’s 147-pound belt in a fight that will air exclusively on that new ESPN+ subscription service. These two were set to fight in April but Crawford suffered an injury while training.
Horn wasn’t a big name worldwide until he scored a stunning unanimous points decision over Manny Pacquiao last July. That was a controversial decision perhaps helped by the fact that Horn fought in front of some 51,000 at Suncorp Stadium in his hometown of Brisbane, Australia. Horn defended the belt with an 11th-round knockout of Gary Corcoran on Dec. 13. This will be Horn’s first fight in the USA.
There’s a reason that Crawford is such a heavy favorite. The 30-year-old Crawford became the undisputed 140-pound champion last August when he unified the division’s four major belts by knocking out Julius Indongo in the third round. He then vacated the titles in order to move up to 147 pounds to take on Horn as his mandatory challenger.
Leo Santa Cruz vs. Abner Mares
Boxing Betting Odds: TBA
From Los Angeles and on Showtime, there are two title fights. Leo Santa Cruz takes on Abner Mares for Santa Cruz’s WBA super featherweight title. In addition, Jermell Charlo faces Austin Trout for Charlo’s WBC junior middleweight title.
It’s a rematch between Santa Cruz and Mares. On Aug. 29, 2015, at Staples Center in L.A., Santa Cruz won a vacant featherweight world title by majority decision — 117-111, 117-111 and 114-114 — over fellow Mexico native Mares in an action-packed fight. The two agreed to a rematch almost right away but it kept being delayed for one reason or another.
He and Mares fought on the same card last October and both won, finally setting up the sequel. Santa Cruz (34-1-1, 19 KOs), who also has won world titles at bantamweight and junior featherweight, will be making the second defense of his second featherweight title reign. Mares (31-2-1, 15 KOs), who has also won world titles at bantamweight and junior featherweight, has fought just twice since the first bout with Santa Cruz.
Meanwhile, Charlo (30-0, 15 KOs) will be making his third title defense when he meets Trout (31-4, 17 KOs). Trout is familiar to the Charlo family. Jermell’s twin brother, Jermall, won a unanimous decision over Trout in May 2016 to retain his version of the junior middleweight title, though he has since moved up in weight.
Jermell Charlo has eyes on a possible unification fight with Jarrett Hurd in the fall but Trout could scuttle those plans. Trout already has one upset on his resume: outpointing Miguel Cotto in 2012.
Terry Flanagan vs. Maurice Hooker
Boxing Betting Odds: TBA
This card is from Manchester, England. It’s actually headlined by former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury finally returning to the ring against Sefer Seferi. Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) has not boxed since he outpointed Wladimir Klitschko in a huge upset to claim three world title belts and the lineal crown on Nov. 28, 2015, in Germany.
They were supposed to have a rematch, but Fury pulled out a few times and has had problems with drugs, alcohol and mental health issues. He has been stripped of all his belts.
The 39-year-old Seferi (23-1, 21 KOs) has a nice record but is basically a tomato can. Seferi, who has won his last two bouts, has faced mostly sub-.500 opposition since losing a wide 10-round unanimous decision in September 2016 to Manuel Charr, the only notable opponent of his career.
Meanwhile, Terry Flanagan faces Maurice Hooker for the vacant WBO junior welterweight title. Flanagan (33-0, 13 KOs), of England, and Hooker (23-0-3, 16 KOs) were originally supposed to fight on April 14 in London on the undercard of middleweight world titleholder Billy Joe Saunders’ defense against Martin Murray.
But when Saunders suffered a hand injury, the card was postponed. The WBO junior welterweight belt is vacant because Crawford relinquished all four of the major belts in the division last summer to move up in weight.
Expert Predictions
Crawford dominates Horn, Santa Cruz beats Mares again by decision, Charlo decisions Trout, and Flanagan decisions Hooker (Fury will win easily).
