How to Win with NFL Coach Specials and Props
2021 NFL Season
- When: Sep. 9, 2021 – Jan. 9, 2022
For NFL Coach of the Year, back a coach for a team that shouldn’t make the playoffs
Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback Andy Reid and Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ coach Bruce Arians are great coaches. But their success will stand in their way to win NFL Coach of the Year. The folks who choose Coach of the Year don’t pick HCs who have had past success.
Reid and Arians are the head coaches for the top two choices to win the Super Bowl. NFL analysts, fans, and pro football handicappers expect Reid’s and Arians’ teams to make the playoffs.
If you want to choose a coach to win the award, make sure to go for a coach who’s team most expect won’t make the playoffs. Check out a short list of head coaches who could surprise this NFL Season.
- Matt Nagy – Chicago Bears
- Kliff Kingsbury – Arizona Cardinals
- Matt Rhule – Carolina Panthers
- Zac Taylor – Cincinnati Bengals
- Brandon Staley – Los Angeles Chargers
Consider backing rookie coaches to win Coach of the Year only if they have NFL experience
This suggestion knocks off Jacksonville Jaguars’ coach Urban Meyer. Meyer has already made a massive college coach mistake.
Almost every college coach that has become an NFL coach outside of Jimmie Johnson, this includes head coahces like Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier, have had a tendency to go with what worked at the college level.
Meyer decided to sign Time Tebow, his quarterback at Florida, to play tight-end. Why? That’s what every NFL fan is asking. There are plenty of talented tight-ends in the league. Tebow hasn’t played football for over two years.
What is Meyer thinking? Maybe, he isn’t.
Don’t back veteran coaches who are supposed to win
Coaches like Bill Belichick at New England, Sean Payton at New Orleans, Mike McCarthy at Green Bay, and Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden are supposed to win games. Sure, if the Raiders end up winning the AFC West it will be as a massive underdog.
But those who vote for coaching props almost assuredly will make Sean McDermott at Buffalo, Matt LaFleur at Green Bay, or even Sean McVay, who heads the Los Angeles Rams, the NFL’s top coach before Belichick, Payton, McCarthy, or Gruden.
Those guys are supposed to win games. Even if they turn around bad teams, they’re supposed to win games. So coaches like Payton and Belichick never got enough nods to bring home the award.
