WNBA Betting Odds, Analysis and Prediction for Week 18 Games

The second-to-last week of the WNBA schedule will feature a lot of jockeying positions between the four through eight seeds.

Things are likely set at the top of the standings, as the Las Vegas Aces, New York Liberty, and Connecticut Sun have all solidified the top three sports. But there are still a lot of important games left for teams in the tier below them.

Every team is still alive for a playoff spot besides the Phoenix Mercury and Seattle Storm. The Indiana Fever are mathematically alive but have a highly unlikely path to the postseason.

Phoenix Mercury at Atlanta Dream

The Mercury were eliminated from the playoffs, snapping a string of 10 straight appearances. That doesn’t mean that Phoenix isn’t capable of playing spoiler. Brittney Griner just returned following a week off, and Diana Taurasi hasn’t played since Aug. 20 due to a toe injury.

The Dream are in a free fall, having lost eight of their past ten games. While Atlanta is set to make the playoffs for the first time since 2018, the Dream is the seventh seed and in danger of slipping even lower.

Atlanta blew an eight-point lead in the final three minutes against Indiana Sunday. The Dream will need to improve things down the stretch to make their spot secure.

Minnesota Lynx at Washington Mystics

The Mystics, who are the sixth seed, have room to go up in the standings if they can string together a few strong performances. Washington’s win over Las Vegas last Saturday was a shocker. The Mystics handed the top-seed Aces a 16-point loss as a 10-point underdog.

Washington had forward Elena Delle Donne make a start and contribute 21 points. Having a healthy Delle Donne will make a big difference for the Mystics, who have seen their star forward miss a lot of time this season. Minnesota has collected two big wins over Dallas in its last three games.

The Lynx are within two games of the fourth seed but will need to steal one on the road to put pressure on the Wings. Minnesota is 19-15-1 against the spread, including 3-2 over the past five games.

Connecticut Sun at New York Liberty

The Sun likely won’t have an opportunity to move in the standings. Connecticut is too far behind New York to catch up to second place and far enough ahead of Dallas that the Wings won’t be able to make a run at them either. What the Sun might like to get from its Friday night meeting with New York is some confidence.

Connecticut has lost all three of its previous meetings with the Liberty this season. The Sun blew a 14-point halftime lead last week against New York before losing in overtime. The Liberty have won three straight games and are putting serious pressure on Las Vegas for the top spot.

New York won’t coast in this game, and it should create an exciting matchup.
