Up until last season, Oklahoma had dominated the Big 12 in recent times. Oklahoma State and Baylor beat the Sooners last season, and Oklahoma’s dominant run came to an end. With a head coaching change and many players leaving the Oklahoma program, the Big 12 should be up for grabs this season.
In looking at the odds to win the conference, the oddsmakers see this as a four team race. Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, and Oklahoma State are the top four favorites to win the Big 12 this season. With change coming soon to the Big 12 as we know it, a lot can happen. Let’s take a look at the NCAA Conference Tournaments Odds favorites to win the Big 12 Championship this season.
Top Big 12 Betting Favorites and their Odds for the 2022 Season
Texas Longhorns +175
After a disappointing 2021 season, the Longhorns are the favorites to win the championship this season. Steve Sarkisian has brought in one of the top quarterback recruits of all time in Quinn Ewers. Ewers will have one of the nation’s top running backs, Bijan Robinson, manning the backfield. This offense should be solid, and should put up a ton of points.
However, there could be some issues on the other side of the ball. Texas’ defense was their downfall last season, and we’re not sure how much better it will be this season. The offense will have to score a lot of points to make up for the Longhorns defensive deficiencies.
Oklahoma Sooners +200
Brent Venables takes over the Sooners program after the departure of Lincoln Riley. Venables is known as one of the top defensive minds in the country. We’re not sure what he’ll have to work with, as Oklahoma had a lot of players leave when Riley left for USC.
Venables did a great job recruiting, and he also did a good job with the transfer portal. Oklahoma should be talented, but we’ll see how all of the new pieces fit into Venables grand scheme.
This isn’t the Oklahoma of the past who would just beat you with their talent and athleticism. We’ll see how long it takes for all of the new players to mesh.
Oklahoma State Cowboys +400
The Oklahoma State Cowboys were the best team in the Big 12 last season, but one play at the end of the Big 12 title game is what their season will be known for. Even though Jim Knowles, who made OSU’s defense into one of the top units in the country, has left for Ohio State, the defense should still be very good.
Offensively, quarterback Spencer Sanders is back, and Mike Gundy has been known for his strong offenses over the years. This should be a very balanced Cowboys team.
Baylor Bears +600
The defending Big 12 champion lost some good players, but they still could be the class of the league. They return all but one of their starters from the offensive and defensive lines. Baylor’s defense should be a very good unit.
They have to replace some skill position players on the offensive side of the ball, but if they can find some players, the offense should be very good.
