2019 BIG3 Basketball Week 4 Odds, Preview & Picks

Tri-State vs. Triplets (Saturday)

Keep in mind that Big 3 games don’t have a time limit. The first team to score 25 points will send the game to halftime and the first team to score 50 points will win the game, but they have to win by two points.

Triplets are one of two teams at 3-0 in the early going and lead the Big3 in point differential at plus 26.1. Triplets are one of the BIG3 expansion teams this year and coached by Naismith Hall of Famer Lisa Leslie, one of the best women’s players in history. Seven-time NBA All-Star Joe Johnson is the team captain. Long-time NBA players Jannero Pargo and Al Jefferson are co-captains.

Triplets are off a 51-45 win last weekend over Bivouac. It was called the “Battle for Atlanta” because both Johnson and Bivouac’s Josh Smith played several years for the Hawks as teammates. Johnson finished with 26 points, including the game-winner, while Smith had 22. Johnson has been probably the best player in the league this year.

Tri-State is 1-2 thus far, outscored by an average of 4.2 points per game. This was a playoff team last year, losing 51-49 in the semifinals to the eventual BIG3 champions, Power. The team returned 2018 key players Jermaine O’Neal, Nate Robinson, Amare Stoudemire, and Bonzi Wells, all long-time NBA players and also added two-time All-Star Slam Dunk champion Jason Richardson.

Tri-State got their first win last weekend, 50-44 over 3’s Company. Stoudemire scored Tri-State’s winning bucket, which was counted after Drew Gooden was called for goaltending to end the game. Stoudemire scored a game-high 22 points and just missed out on a double-double with nine rebounds. Robinson hit launched a four-point shot to start the second half. The bucket began a 12-2 run for Tri-State that turned the game around.

“These guys talked before the game. It was amazing how much they wanted this thing and how dedicated and their desire to go out there and get the job done,” said Steve Mix who filled in for Tri-State coach Julius Erving.

Stoudemire is averaging 22 points and eight rebounds so far. Nine NBA teams, including LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers, have taken notice and reached out to Stoudemire with an invitation for a private workout. The former five-time All-NBA first teamer has played 14 seasons with four different NBA teams.

Killer 3’s vs. Trilogy (Saturday)

Killer 3’s are the other 3-0 team and they are second in point differential at plus-23.1. Killer 3’s beat 3 Headed Monsters 51-48 last week. Stephen Jackson led all scorers with 22 points and also racked up six rebounds, two assists, and two steals to pace the Killer 3’s. Franklin Sessions also shined by putting up 10 points, seven boards, and six dimes. Killer 3’s should be one of your Big 3 Basketball Week 4 betting picks.

Mario Chalmers and Rashard Lewis each scored 16 points for the 3 Headed Monsters. Ultimately, Chalmers’ late-game heroics would not be enough as the shifty Sessions impressed with several spectacular drives to close out the victory for Killer 3s. Trilogy didn’t lose a game in winning the 2017 BIG3 title but slipped to 3-5 last year and missed the playoffs. Former Player Captain of the Year Kenyon Martin moved to a coaching role this year, replacing former Trilogy coach Rick Mahorn. He’s now with Enemies.

Trilogy improved to 1-2 with a 50-43 win over Power last weekend. After allowing Power to score the game’s first basket, Trilogy went on an 11-0 run and never looked back. Nancy Lieberman’s side was hobbled after a first-half ejection to Glen Davis, who gave his uniform and positive energy to the crowd, and a second-half injury to MVP candidate Cuttino Mobley. Captain Jason Terry was out. Trilogy was led by David Hawkins, who had 21 points and Patrick O’Bryant with 14 points and nine rebounds.
