Boxing Betting News Update: Davis and Loma Dominate

July 4th Weekend is a slow one on the boxing front. In fact, MyBookie has odds for just a few boxing matches. So instead of writing about and picking winners in those matches, we’ll talk about what’s going on in the sport. Check out the latest in our Boxing betting update.

Gervonta Davis rallies against Mario Barrios

Many questioned whether Tank Davis had the necessary height and reach to move up 2-weight classes and beat a boxer as skilled as the undefeated Mario Barrios. Many also wondered if Davis would carry his punch with him.

But Davis, who always knocks out his opponents, proved the doubters wrong. Early in the fight, it looked as if Barrios had the measure of Gervonta. The lengthier pugilist had built a lead on the scorecards.

But eventually, Davis turned it on. The fight that ended the match was a devastating left hook to Barrios’ ribs. Barrios fell to the canvas in pain.

Gervonta now his choice of opponent. Many won’t want to face Davis because, well, he hits so hard. But others will take the chance since with the victory, Tank became one of the biggest names in boxing.

Vasiliy Lomachenko puts a beating on Masayoshi Nakatani

Many believed Teofimo Lopez’s victory over Vasiliy Lomachenko last September was an upset. Based on the odds, it was. But anybody who had watched Loma fight before knew he took his time to get going.

Loma also knows waiting too long to start taking apart Lopez could be the reason he lost the fight, which is why last Saturday night, Lomachenko jumped on overmatched Masayoshi Nakatani from the outset.

Lomachenko easily handled Nakatani. He ran circles around the Japanese fighter from the first bell and to the ninth round stoppage. During the post-fight interview, Lomachenko told Lopez that he was waiting for him.

Teofimo must first get past George Kambosos Jr. in August. If Lopez wins that bout, he may fight Loma before moving up to 140. But if Teofimo doesn’t believe he can fight Lomachenko at his best at the lower weight class, the champ could decide to give up on a rematch.

Lopez has said he now holds the cards. It’s his decision if he wants to again step into the ring against Lomachenko. Because it’s up to Lopez, Loma-Teofimo II may never happen.

Fury – Wilder III highlights July boxing action

July doesn’t start out with great matches. It will end with great contests, though.

No bigger fight takes place this month than Tyson Fury versus Deontay Wilder. For the third time, Fury and Wilder will step into the ring. The pair of gargantuan heavyweights drew in the first bout.

Fury dominated Wilder in the second. Deontay says things will be different in the third while Tyson says he’ll beat Wilder even easier in the rubber match. The bout happens on July 24 in Las Vegas.

Earlier in the month, on July 9, Joseph Fortuna Jr. throws down against Javier Fortuna and Tenkai Tsunami takes on Seneisa Estrada in a women’s flyweight title bout.

Then on July 17, Jermell Charlo battles Brian Castano and Rolando Romero throws down against Austin Dulay in a couple of championship boxing matches.

Keep checking MyBookie for updated boxing odds on those bouts and other matches happening in July.
