Why bet on Caleb Plant at +500?
Plant is taller, has a longer reach, and is regarded as a better boxer. No doubt, Caleb’s hands are also faster. Not only that, but there’s a reason to believe Plant is the more motivated pugilist.
While Canelo has sat on the pound-for-pound throne for a while, Caleb has gotten barely any mentions as one of the top boxers in the sport. A victory over Alvarez will cement his legacy no matter what happens after Saturday night.
Why bet on Canelo Alvarez at -900
There’s a reason many consider Canelo the best boxer on the planet. Although he’s often shorter and in many cases slower than his opponents, Canelo does everything correctly. Technically, he’s as proficient as any fighter who has ever stepped into a ring.
Canelo never throws a punch without setting his feet. He uses his hand and feet feints to move his opponent into position, and he has excellent defense.
He’s also extremely patient. Not only that, but only one fighter, Floyd Mayweather Jr., has ever bested Canelo.
Final Betting Analysis: Caleb Plant vs Canelo Alvarez
It’s easy after watching Plant fight to believe he has a real shot to beat Canelo Alvarez. Based on pure boxing ability, Plant is faster, has a better jab, and, like what we wrote above, is the more motivated boxer.
But while Plant will have an energy edge in the early rounds, that edge will dissipate by round five. Also, Canelo Alvarez is a master at dissecting his opponents. Plant has tendencies that should play into Canelo’s hands.
A couple of things Caleb does will lead to a knockout or technical knockout loss. First, he throws his jab from his hip. Plant is fast enough to land it effectively against most fighters.
Canelo Alvarez will take advantage of the move. Second, Plant tends dip low to evade punches. All Canelo will do is punch down or move to where Plant is shifting and time a vicious uppercut or hook.
Finally, Caleb has gassed in the second half of his fights. Alvarez gets stronger as the fight goes on.
Plant will put up a decent fight. He’ll last at least until the eighth. But once the real fighting starts, and once Canelo gets an idea of how to time Plant’s illustrated defensive moves and his from the hip jab, Alvarez will take charge, stalk Caleb, and knock him out.
