Jarrett Hurd and Jean Pascal highlights undercard bouts

Showtime is highlighting two other fights on the Logan Paul versus Floyd Mayweather Jr. undercard. The first pits 24-1 Jarrett “Swift” Hurd versus 18-2-1 Luis Arias.

Although people will pay the $49 PPV fee to check out Floyd versus Logan, Arias against Hurd may end up the more competitive fight. Neither is a joke.

Arias has lost 2-of-3 with a draw. He must do something different to beat Hurd. However, Arias hasn’t fought since 2019. Sometimes, a long layoff works in a boxer’s favor. It especially works if Arias ditched the negative thinking he likely developed after the losses.

Hurd beat Francisco Santana last year. This is Swift’s second comeback fight after a 2019 loss to Julian Williams. Both guys have something to prove, which should make for an entertaining bout.

The second undercard fight is a championship bout between former title holders Jean Pascal and Badou Jack. Pascal beat Jack via split-decision in a 2019 contest. On June 5, the pair battle for the WBA Light Heavyweight Title.

Jack has one fight since the bout with Pascal, a unanimous decision over Blake McKernan in 2020. This is Pascal’s first bout since the 2019 war with Jack. Like Hurd versus Arias, don’t be surprised if Pascal versus Jack is more competitive than Mayweather Jr. against Paul.

Logan Paul’s training video with Ryan Garcia shows he’s got some skill

Ryan Garcia trained with Logan Paul and, you know what? Logan’s got some skills! He actually looked good moving around the ring. More importantly, Logan listened to everything Garcia told him.

Based on the training we saw, Logan Paul is a more skilled and capable fighter than he was in his second bout against KSI. Paul’s also the more humble between the two brothers.

Being humble should help LP in his bout with Floyd. But it probably won’t help enough.

Odds on Floyd drop to -1000 because you need more than skill to beat Money Mayweather

Based on current odds, Logan Paul has no chance against Mayweather. Money is a 10-to-1 chalk. One of the reasons for bettors ditching Paul?

Usually in a boxing match, the heavier guy has an advantage. In this case, Logan’s size could be a detriment. Tall, big boxers must create space to land their best punches. Also, the bigger fighter is almost always slower.

Logan will telegraph every punch. Mayweather is used to reacting to guys much faster than Paul, which means every punch Logan throws, Floyd is going to know what it is before Logan even throws it.

Floyd can then get inside and throw one of his patented uppercuts or left hooks. So even though Paul’s size gives him a slight advantage in terms of power, it is also a disadvantage in terms of speed and reaction time.

Next week, we’ll talk about some of the Logan versus Floyd props. Then in our article during fight week, we’ll make predictions as to what happens when Logan Paul battles Floyd Mayweather Jr.
