4 Things You Must Consider Before Betting on Boxing

Pacquiao vs Bradley Fight Odds

Written by on April 8, 2016

Widely-popular 37-year-old boxer Manny Pacquiao is entering what is likely the final fight of his now, legendary 20-year career. 32-year-old Timothy Bradley is looking to extract some revenge and cement his own legacy when the two square off in what will be the third matchup between the longtime rivals on Saturday, April 9, live from the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada. Interestingly enough, the elder Pacquiao is favored to win this matchup despite the fact that he hasn’t fought since losing to Floyd Mayweather in their highly anticipated bout in May of 2015. Manny Pacquiao

The Pac-Man is coming off a unanimous decision loss against Mayweather the last time out, following three straight wins, including a unanimous decision win over Bradley in April of 2014. Prior to those bouts, Pacquiao has lost two straight fights in falling to Bradley in June of 2012 and Juan Manuel Marquez six months later. Pacquiao is now fully recovered from the shoulder surgery he had a few days after his bout against Mayweather, but is just 3-3 in his last six fights.

Timothy Bradley

Bradley’s loss to Pacquiao on April 12, 2014 is the only defeat of the Southern Californian’s career. Not only that, but Bradley is apparently only getting better with age. After beating Jessie Vargas via unanimous decision in June of 2015 to win back his WBO welterweight title, Bradley retained his belt with an impressive ninth-round TKO over Brandon Rios last November. The fight against Rios was Bradley’s first under the guidance of legendary trainer Teddy Atlas. Now, the 32-year-old says the switch to Atlas has made him a better boxer. “I’ve made some changes, and now I understand my identity as a fighter: what I’m supposed to be. Teddy made me realize that. I’m calmer this time around,” Bradley told reporters in January.

Expert Analysis and Pick

I am absolutely stunned that Manny Pacquiao is favored to beat Timothy Bradley in this matchup, seeing as how Bradley is the younger, more athletic and more recently active fighter in this third and final installation of Pacquiao vs. Bradley. The bottom line for me is that Manny Pacquiao has been built up as the favorite for this bout when he really shouldn’t be. Why, because he is not the better fighter in this matchup – and I suspect that both men know it. Timothy Bradley has some big-time motivation as he seeks to repay Pacquiao for the narrow loss he took in their last meeting while both, bagging the career edge in head-to-head meetings against Pacquiao while strengthening his own legacy all at the same time. While he’s not the biggest puncher, Timothy Bradley is too fast and too athletic to get beaten by an aging Manny Pacquiao in this third and final meeting between the pair. I say, keep it simple and go with Bradley to win this one via an embarrassing unanimous decision in which he completely outclasses an aging Manny Pacquiao.

The Pick: Timothy Bradley via Unanimous Decision
