Boxing Events: Vargas & Foster Battle for the WBC Jr. Lightweight Title
Tyler Denny -555 vs. Brad Pauls +324
When: Saturday, February 11th, 2023
Where: Wembley Arena, Wembley, UK
Time: 10:00 PM EST
Tyler Denny: 14-2-3
Title: Champion
Height: 5’10” (178cm)
Brad Pauls: 16-0-0
Title: Challenger
Height: 5’10” (178cm)
Tyler Denny opened a -500 chalk. The Friday before the fight, Denny has become an even bigger favorite. There’s a reason boxing handicappers expect Tyler to beat Brad Pauls.
Although Denny has a worse record, Tyler is 15-2-3 compared to the 16-0 Pauls, Tyler has fought the much better opponents. In Denny’s last, he beat then 14-0 Bradley Rea via 10-round unanimous decision.
Pauls beat then 16-3 Ryan Kelly via split-decision in his last. It’s tough to back Denny at the odds, but the fave should win this.
Boxing Pick: Tyler Denny

Zak Chelli +211 vs. Anthony Sims Jr. -312
When: Saturday, February 11th, 2023
Where: Wembley Arena, Wembley, UK
Time: 10:00 PM EST
Zak Chelli: 12-1-1
Title: Champion
Height: 6’0″ (183cm)
Anthony Sims Jr.: 23-1-0
Title: Challenger
Height: 6’1″ (185cm)
Chelli hasn’t lost since beating Kody Davies via unanimous decision in 2019. He’s a good fighter. The reason he’s the underdog, though, is because Anthony Sims Jr. is 23-1 with 20 knockouts or technical knockout wins.
When you step into the ring with Anthony, he’s likely to get you out of there before the final bell. So if you don’t want to back the favorite on the money line, consider backing Sims via TKO or KO.
Boxing Pick: Anthony Sims Jr.

Adam Azim -5000 vs. Santos Reyes +870
When: Saturday, February 11th, 2023
Where: Wembley Arena, Wembley, UK
Time: 10:00 PM EST
Adam Azim: 7-0
Title: Champion
Height: 5-10
Santos Reyes: 12-0
Title: Challenger
Height: N/A
Major underdog Santos Reyes heads into this with a undefeated 12-0 record. Reyes has 3 stoppage victories on his record.
There are a couple of reasons Reyes is such a huge underdog even though he’s undefeated. First, all of Santos’ fights happened in his native Nicaragua. Second, Azim has a 7-0 with 6 knockouts record.
No doubt, the chalk wins. And, no doubt, he wins via knockout. So look for a KO prob before backing Adam at -5000.
Boxing Pick: Adam Azim

San Antonio, Texas – Showtime
Mario Barrios -714 vs. Jovanie Santiago +388
When: Saturday, February 11th, 2023
Where: Alamodome, San Antonio, TX
Time: 10:00 PM EST
Mario Barrios: 26-2-0
Title: Champion
Height: 6’0″ (1.83 m)
Jovanie Santiago: 14-2-1
Title: Challenger
Height: 5’7″ (1.7 m)
Before his last couple of fights, Mario “El Azteca” Barrios was undefeated. The huge chalk in this had built a 26-0 with 17 knockouts record.
But then Barrios faced the great Gervonta Davis. GD is working on a hall of fame career. So Mario losing to Davis is no issue. Barrios then lost to another possible hall of fame boxer in Keith Thurman.
Jovanie Santiago is a huge step down for Barrios. Also, Jovanie hasn’t fought since 2021 and like Mario, heads into the ring after two straight losses. Barrios wins.
Boxing Pick: Mario Barrios

WBC Junior Lightweight Title
Rey Vargas -133 vs. O’Shaquie Foster -104
When: Saturday, February 11th, 2023
Where: Alamodome, San Antonio, TX
Time: 9:00 PM EST
Rey Vargas: 36-0-0
Title: Champion
Height: 5′ 10½”
O’Shaquie Foster: 19-2-0
Title: Challenger
Height: 5′ 8″
19-2 with 11 stoppage wins, O’Shaquie Foster brings advantages into Saturday’s top bout. Foster is taller than Vargas by an inch and has an inch and a half reach advantage.
Vargas, though, is the more accomplished pugilist. Rey is 36-0 and has stopped 22 of his opponents before the final bell. Like most great Mexico trained boxers, Vargas has a great ability to fight inside. Rey can also stay outside and use his jab to set up power shots.
Foster will put up a good fight. But Vargas is too skilled to lose this match.
Boxing Pick: Rey Vargas
