Friday, July 9th Boxing Bouts
- Hector Tanajara -125 / William Zepeda -105
19-0 Hector Tanajara takes on fellow undefeated fighter 22-0 William Zepeda in the warmup fight to Friday night’s championship bout. Tanajara has a major reach advantage, but the issue is he’s got just 5 knockouts from the 19 wins. If Zepeda, who has won via knockout or technical knockout 20 times, gets to Tanajara, the slight underdog could get it done. Zepeda is the play.
Boxing Pick: William Zepeda
- Javier Fortuna +185 / Joseph Diaz -225
The weekend’s top boxing match happens on Friday night. 36-2-1 Javier Fortuna takes on 31-1-1 Joseph Diaz. The odds favor Diaz, and they should, but Fortuna is not without a shot. Fortuna last lost in 2018. His sixth round victory over the much taller Antonio Lozada Torres last November was a thing of beauty.
Why? Fortuna had to punch up with accuracy, which is never easy for a shorter boxer. Fortuna has shown that when allowed, he can keep his opponent off him via the right jab.
Diaz can fight any style. He appeared to have trouble dealing with Shavkat Rakhimov’s movement in his last fight, though. The draw exposed some flaws. This fight can go either way. Based on the odds, and the fact Fortuna has had a string of excellent performances, makes the underdog the play.
Boxing Pick: Javier Fortuna
Saturday, July 10th Boxing Bouts
- Ronnie Clark +500 / Sultan Zaurbek -1000
24-2 Ronnie Clark last tasted defeat in 2016. Clark has more experience than his opponent in this, Sultan Zaurbek has 10 victories, but Clark hasn’t fought since 2018. The layoff should factor into the bout.
The chalk has a ton of power. But this could be a sneaky tough fight for Sultan. Even though Ronnie Clark hasn’t fought in three and a half years, he has the ability to beat Zaurbek. Sultan has the home ring advantage since this bout happens in his native Kazakhstan. But Clark is a tough dude. Even though Zaurbek should win, the odds make Ronnie an overlay, so, he’s the one to back if you’re playing the moneyline.
Boxing Pick: Ronnie Clark
- Alexey Evchenko +700 / Tursynbay Kulakhmet -1500
Although he’s just 3-0 with 2 knockouts, Tursynbay Kulakhmet is the showcase fighter on Saturday’s card in Kazakhstan. Alexey Evchenko, with a 19-14-2 record, has tons more experience, but in his 3 bouts, Kulakhmet has shown he can dominate. Also, don’t let the 3-0 professional record fool you. Kulakhmet fought at the amateur level for years and only made the jump into the pro ranks when he felt he was ready. Choose a round or two and back the chalk to get the knockout.
Boxing Pick: Tursynbay Kulakhmet
- Sherzod Husanov +500 / Zach Parker -1000
This bout takes place at Royal Albert Hall in Kensington, the site of one of Bob Dylan’s most famous 1965 concerts. Zach Parker is 20-0 with 14 knockouts. He should have no trouble handling Sherzod Husanov. At one time, the underdog may have offered favorite’s odds. But Sherzod has lost 2 of his last 3 and both losses were versus fighters below Parker’s talent level. Also, Husanov is 41-years-old. Like in the Kulakhmet bout, choose a couple of rounds for Parker to get the TKO or KO and play those instead of backing the chalk at -1000.
Boxing Pick: Zach Parker
