Top Weekend Boxing Events
- When: Saturday, Feb. 13 – Sunday, Feb. 14
Saturday, Feb. 13th Fights
- Mauricio Lara +1005 / Josh Warrington -1810
The 22-year-old Lara has a nice 21-2 record with 14 knockouts. He takes on one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet in that fighters backyard on Saturday. Josh Warrington is 30-0 with 7 knockouts. The Leeds Warriors has too much experience. Lara hasn’t fought anyone close to Warrington’s level. Although we hate laying the odds, there’s no other choice.
Boxing Pick: Josh Warrington
- Kiko Martinez +600 / Zelfa Barrett -870
The 27-year-old Barrett faces a boxer seven years his senior in Kiko Martinez. Kiko’s last fight was in his native Spain. The bout against Gary Allen Russell Jr., even though Martinez lost via TKO, impresses some. That fight happened in 2019, though. Zelfa adds to his sparkling 24-1 record.
Boxing Pick: Zelfa Barrett
- Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov +185 / Joseph Diaz -225
IBF World Super Featherweight title holder Joseph Diaz doesn’t face a cream puff on Saturday. Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov has the skills to upset Diaz. He’s 2 ½ inches taller than the champ, has length, and is undefeated at 15-0. Rakhimov has knocked out 12 of his opponents. Give the challenger a big shot.
Boxing Pick: Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov
- Patrick Teixeira +475 / Brian Carlos Castano -650
The only blemish on Brian Carlos Castano’s record is a draw versus Erislandy Lara. Curtis Stevens beat Patrick Teixeira back in 2016. Since then, Teixeira has won five straight. But the Brazilian boxer has never faced a fighter of Castano’s caliber. Castano easily wins this bout.
Boxing Pick: Brian Carlos Castano
Sunday, Feb. 14th Fights
- Maxim Vlasov +260 / Joe Smith Jr. -320
Maxim Vlasov is a good fighter. But he’s going to have trouble against Joe Smith Jr. Smith’s last loss was in 2019. It happened versus arguably the best light heavyweight in the world, Dmitry Bivol. Last year, Joe beat Eleider Alvarez and Jesse Hart. He beat Hart via split-decision. He knocked out Alvarez. Even though Vlasov has a height advantage, we can’t look past Smith Jr. to make it 3 in a row.
Boxing Pick: Jose Smith Jr.
- Jason Sanchez +155 / Adam Lopez -185
Sanchez steps into the ring having lost two of this last three. That doesn’t set Jason up well against a strong fighter like Adam Lopez. Although the 24-year-old is beatable, Lopez bounced back from a loss to Oscar Valdez with a victory against Luis Coria in his last. He should improve his record on Sunday night.
Boxing Pick: Adam Lopez
- Jackson Marinez +230 / Richard Commey -280
Former champion Richard Commey returns to the ring for the first time since his devastating 2019 second-round knockout loss to Teofimo Lopez. Commey faces 19-1 Jackson Marinez. The Dominican fighter is no slouch. But he doesn’t have the power that RC possesses. Eventually, Commey will take Marinez out with a powerful 1-2 combination.
Boxing Pick: Richard Commey
