Boxing: Joe Smith Jr. Versus Maxim Vlasov for Vacant WBO Light Heavy Title

Top Weekend Boxing Events

  • When: Saturday, April 10

Saturday, April 10th Bouts

  • Connor Benn -1200 / Samuel Vargas +500

Connor Benn is 17-0 with 11 knockouts. Veteran Samuel Vargas is 31-6-2 with 14 knockouts. Vargas lost to Vergel Ortiz Jr. in his last. Vergel, one of the best fighters on the planet, knocked out Vargas after 7 rounds. Although Benn should win this fight, the odds make him an underlay. The underdog is cagey enough to extend this one. If it goes to the scorecards, who know?

Boxing Pick: Samuel Vargas

  • Ebanie Bridges +450 / Shannon Courtenay -800

Australian fighter Ebanie Bridges has a decent record with 5 wins and 0 losses. She’s knocked out a couple of her opponents. Shannon Courtenay is a good figher, though. Her lone loss in 7 fights was to terrific Rachel Ball. Bridges gives up 4-inches in height in this bout. We’d look for a different bet than the moneyline, but Courtenay figures to use her jab throughout, and pile up points. So were not sure if Courtenay knocks out the underdog or not.

Boxing Pick: Shannon Courtenay

  • Aleksander Espinoza +650 / Ukashir Farooq -1500

Espinoza has a nice record with 20 wins, 2 losses, and 2 draws. But every fight has happened in his native Nicaragua. Ukashir Farooq is 14-1 with 6 knockouts. He no doubt will win this bout. The big question is what prop do we play? Only one of Farooq’s knockouts lasted past the sixth round. Rounds 4 and 5 looking promising.

Boxing Pick: Farooq KO in Round 4 or Round 5

  • Eimantas Stanionis -800 / Thomas Dulorme +450

Stanionis is an up and comer. He’s 12-0 with 9 knockouts and every fight has happened in the United States. Thomas Dulorme is 25-4-1 with 16 knockouts. Dulorme has a few physical advantages. He’s a couple of inches taller and has a 5-inch reach advantage. But Dulorme has 1 win, 2 losses, and a draw in his last 4. One of the issues? He doesn’t use his jab enough. Stanionis will KO Dulorme. So if MyBookie posts round odds, consider choosing one or two.

Boxing Pick: Eimantas Stanionis

  • Jaron Ennis -1000 / Sergey Lipinets +500

At 26-0 with 24 knockouts, Jaron Ennis should KO Lipinets in this bout. Round odds are posted for this fight. So our job is to think of what round Ennis sends Lipinets out of the ring. Most of the chalks knockouts have happened in the early rounds. The third and fourth look best.

Boxing Pick: Ennis wins in Round 3 or Round 4

  • Jerwin Ancajas -750 / Jonathan Javier Rodriguez +485

Ancajas is one of the most consistent boxers on the planet. He’s got a 31-2-1 record with 22 knockouts. Jerwin’s motor never stops. But at 22-1 with 16 knockouts, Rodriguez is no slouch. Still, Rodriguez hasn’t faced anyone close to having the skills that Ancajas possesses. The favored fighter takes this.

Boxing Pick: Jerwin Ancajas

  • Joe Smith Jr. -330 / Maxim Vlasov +255

Vlasov is no joke. He’s 45-3 with 26 knockouts. But Joe Smith Jr.’s last victory was against Eleider Alvarez and anybody who follows boxing knows how tough Alvarez is. The chalk in this hung with Dmitry Bivol, not an easy thing to do, in a unanimous decision loss. The last time Vlasov fought in the U.S. he lost. The underdog doesn’t appear to use his jab enough. Vlasov could hang in their long enough for this fight go to the scorecards. But after it does, the ref will raise Joe Smith Jr.’s arm.

Boxing Pick: Joe Smith Jr.
