2019 CFL Season Odds, Predictions & Picks

Written by on May 20, 2019

Just when it seems as though we are still a long time away from watching professional football, the action begins in the CFL, north of the border. If you have never tuned into the Canadian Football League, you really are missing out. Yes, there are some rather odd rules, such as no fair catch and teams potentially receiving a single point for missing a field goal. Still, it’s a wide-open style of football that very often delivers a ton of offense.

It’s also a league that has been around since 1909, so there is a ton of history to be found. The new season will begin on June 13, with the Grey Cup Final set for November 24 in Calgary. Let’s take a look at the Canadian Football League betting favorites to win it all this year.

2019 CFL Season Betting Favorites

Calgary Stampeders

  • 2019 CFL Grey Cup Odds: +275

The Stampeders have become the class of the league over the last 5 seasons, winning the Grey Cup twice and landing as the runner-up twice in that stretch. They will once again have Bo Levi Mitchell pulling the strings at QB, and while they did lose a couple of key players, the majority of the team that won it all last year will be back and ready to go.

The Stampeders should win the West without any real issue and given that the Grey Cup will be in Calgary this year, you have to believe that they will be making a real push to play in the championship game in front of their own fans. They look like a fabulous bet again.

BC Lions

  • 2019 CFL Grey Cup Odds: +350

We spoke earlier about how things are a little different in the CFL. A perfect example of that can be found with the BC Lions last season. They finished the season at 9-9, which left them sitting 4th in the West, but given the weakness of the East, BC was able to move into the playoffs on the Eastern side of the bracket, only to be destroyed by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the playoffs.

The bookies have the Lions in as the second favorite to win the Grey Cup this season, but I think they are being a little kind, as there is another team in the West that looks like a much better bet.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

  • 2019 CFL Grey Cup Odds: +500
Winnipeg saw their season get off to a brutal start last year, but they went on a late run that saw them finish the season at 10-8. They were a surprise winner over Saskatchewan in the opening round of the playoffs before running into the Stampeders. The Blue Bombers are among the 2019 CFL Betting favorites.

The Blue Bombers are great on offense, but they got a serious boost on the defensive side of the ball, with star LB Adam Bighill signing a 3-year extension. This team looks to be the main threat to the Stampeders this year.

Hamilton Tiger Cats

  • 2019 CFL Grey Cup Odds: +550

The Eastern Division looks to be a bit of a coin flip, as we are essentially looking at Hamilton and the Ottawa Redblacks, the runner-up in the Grey Cup last season, as the two teams that are far and away from the best. Hamilton was one win away from playing in the championship game last season despite ending the regular season with a sub-.500 record.

They were hammered by Ottawa in that game, but I like Hamilton to be a little better this season and a potential Grey Cup runner-up. I just don’t see anyone taking out Calgary.
