Betting CFL 2024 Season
Entering Week 11, There is Good Value on Montreal Alouettes to Win Grey Cup.
The Montreal Alouettes look more than prepared to defend their Grey Cup title.
Last year, the Alouettes winning was a bit of a surprise.
Many people believed Toronto was the best team in the East Division.
But no one will be thinking that this year.
The Alouettes are 8-1 to start the season and are impressively 4-0 away from home.
Despite Montreal’s hot start, the British Columbia Lions have the best odds to win the Grey Cup at +175.
The Alouettes are second at +225.
That seems like good value in Montreal, especially since B.C.’s quarterback is shaky.
Saskatchewan is a dark horse in the race.
The Roughriders are +600 to lift the cup.
Saskatchewan will need to get healthy on offense before it can emerge as a title contender.
Here’s a look at what to expect from the CFL this weekend, which is moving onto Week 11 of its schedule.
Montreal (-1.5) vs Saskatchewan Roughriders
Going on the road to play the Roughriders shouldn’t be too big of a concern for Montreal.
Saskatchewan quarterback Trevor Harris is on the six-game injured list because of a knee injury.
The Roughriders have lost three of their past five games.
Last week, Saskatchewan had to settle for a tie against Ottawa.
The Roughriders’ issue has been inconsistency on offense.
Quarterback Shea Patterson has been struggling to adapt to the CFL, but he did throw for two touchdowns last week against Ottawa.
Montreal is 6-3 against the spread.
The Alouettes enter this game on a three-game winning streak.
The first game in this successful stretch was a 20-16 win over Saskatchewan.
Montreal had to rally from a 16-3 halftime deficit to win the first game.
The Roughriders are 6-3 against the spread.
The total has gone over in six of Saskatchewan’s nine games this season.
Back Montreal to cover the spread in another close game.
Ottawa Redblacks (+3.5) vs Calgary Stampeders
The Stampeders have been excellent at home this season.
Calgary has won all four of its games at McMahon Stadium, but is only 4-5 overall.
The Stampeders will hope to continue that trend when it welcomes the Redblacks this weekend.
Calgary has received excellent quarterback play this season from Jake Maier and hopes that he can carry them to another win.
Maier has thrown for 2,355 yards with 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Maier has topped 300 yards passing in three of Calgary’s last five games.
Ottawa would like to bounce back from a tie with the Stampeders last week.
The Redblacks are on a four-game unbeaten streak, including a dominant 33-6 win over the Stampeders at home.
Ottawa is 5-3 against the spread this season.
The Redblacks won’t dominate the Stampeders on the road like they did at home.
But Ottawa should have enough in the tank to cover the spread and possibly hand Calgary its first loss at home this season.
Edmonton Elks (-2.5) vs Hamilton Tiger-Cats
The Elks have finally pulled themselves out of the gutter.
Following an 0-7 start, Edmonton has put together back-to-back victories.
But how much momentum can the Elks continue to build?
The Elks are 5-4 against the spread, but were embarrassed by Hamilton in late July as three-point favorites.
The Tiger-Cats were in Edmonton’s position in July.
Following an 0-5 start, the Tiger-Cats were able to string together consecutive wins.
But things quickly went sour when Hamilton had to take on defending Gray Cup champions Montreal.
The Alouettes handed the Tiger-Cats a pair of losses to stunt their momentum.
Hamilton quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell must cut down on the turnovers if Hamilton is going to turn things around.
Mitchell has thrown 10 interceptions this season.
While Mitchell has also thrown 18 touchdown passes, the turnovers have been soul crushing for Hamilton.
The Tiger-Cats are 2-7 against the spread this season and have seen three of their past five games go over the total.
During the last meeting between the two teams, Edmonton allowed Mitchell to throw five touchdown passes.
If the Elks can tighten things up on defense, they should be able to grab a win.
This is a spot to back the Elks, reluctantly, as either team is capable of a weak or strong performance depending on the week.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers (-1) vs BC Lions
The Lions saw what life without Vernon Adams Jr. looked like last week.
It was ugly.
B.C. got pounded by Edmonton and the Lions decided to make a major signing.
B.C. chose to sign former Most Outstanding Player Nathan Rourke to play quarterback.
It was an interesting decision given that Adams was on pace for a historic year before his injury.
But football is a business and teams are looking to bring home the trophy.
Rourke and Adams may be unavailable to play this weekend after spending a few seasons in the NFL.
BC has lost three straight games, all on the road.
Coming back home should provide some comfort, but the offense will have to play better.
When the Lions last met up with Winnipeg, the Blue Bombers shut them out.
Winnipeg is hoping its defense can keep the team in the playoff race long enough for the offense to figure its stuff out.
The Blue Bombers have held their last three opponents to 20 points or less, which is rare in the CFL.
However, Winnipeg only picked up one victory during that impressive defensive stretch.
The Blue Bombers are only 3-6 this season.
Winnipeg is 2-7 against the spread.
Keep a close eye on the injury report for this matchup.
If Adams can play, or even in the unlikely certainly that Rourke suits up, this is a good chance to back BC at a small number if the lineup is right.
If the Lions are forced to go with Jake Dolegala at quarterback again, back Winnipeg.
But make sure to monitor who plays in this one closely.

Canadian Football League Week 11 | Thursday, August 17th – Sunday August 20th, 2023
Edmonton Elks at Hamilton Tiger-Cats
CFL Odds: Elks +5.5; Tiger-Cats -5.5 / Elks +600; Tiger-Cats -1000 / O/U 44.5
Thursday, August 17th, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. ET

The Elks took a 22-point lead against Winnipeg and looked like they would win their first game of the season. However, Edmonton collapsed under the weight of the Blue Bombers’ passing attack and fell to 0-9 on the season. The Elks have the league’s worst scoring offense, only allowing 14.9 points per game.
Edmonton is 3-6 against the spread this season. The total has gone under in six of the Elks’ nine games this season. Hamilton has lost two of the past three games.
The Tiger-Cats have seen the last three games go under the total. Hamilton has struggled on defense, allowing 29 points per game, which ranks last in the league.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Calgary Stampeders

The Blue Bombers have been picking up major momentum. Even without quarterback Zach Collaros last week, Winnipeg was able to rally from a three-score deficit to beat the Elks last week. However, the Blue Bombers will need to maintain their mental toughness to beat the desperate Stampeders.
Calgary is in fourth place in the West Division and wants to try and stay in the race for third place. The Stampeders have lost three of their past four games and only scored nine points in a loss to the Lions last week. Calgary has struggled to throw the ball. The Stampeders pass for 246.9 yards per game, which ranks seventh in the league.

Montreal Alouettes at Ottawa Redblacks
CFL Odds: Alouettes -6.5; Redblacks +6.5 / Alouettes -600; Redblacks +120 / O/U 44.5
Saturday, August 19th, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. ET
TD Place Stadium, Ontario, Canada
The Redblacks have lost three straight games. Ottawa hasn’t found much success since winning back-to-back games in Weeks 5 and 6. The Redblacks should be energized by playing Montreal, which only beat the Redblacks 19-12 in Week 1.
Ottawa quarterback Dustin Crum played well last week, completing 21 of 26 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns.
The Alouettes have won three straight games against teams below them in the standings. Montreal’s defense has been excellent at keeping teams out of the endzone. The Alouettes only allow 19.4 points per game, which is the second-best average in the league.

B.C. Lions at Saskatchewan Roughriders
CFL Odds: Lions -9.5; Roughriders +9.5 / Lions -600; Roughriders +1000 / O/U 44.5
Tim Hortons Field, Ontario, Canada
Sunday, August 20th, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. ET
The Lions quickly bounced back from a loss to Winnipeg last week by beating up on Calgary. What helped B.C. was having quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. back in the lineup. Adams passed for 422 yards and four touchdowns. While Adams can struggle with turnovers, B.C. has compiled a strong record this season.
The Lions are 6-2-1 against the spread and 7-2 straight up. Saskatchewan is 4-5 this season but has struggled since losing quarterback Trevor Harris for the season with a serious injury. Harris has dropped four of its past five games.
