There wasn’t much drama regarding the race in the CFL standings for the top two teams in each division this season. The Montreal Alouettes and defending Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts were the clear No. 1 and 2 teams in the East Division. Out West, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers pulled away from the B.C. Lions to win the West Division down the stretch.

Now the four teams are ready to cut down to two. Will this season see a repeat of last year’s Toronto-Winnipeg final or can BC or Montreal join the party?

Montreal Alouettes at Toronto Argonauts

The Alouettes have had a recognizable pattern this season. When playing a team that finished below them in the standings, Montreal was 11-0. Against everyone else, the Alouettes are 0-7. Montreal didn’t find much success against Toronto this season.

The Alouettes lost all three meetings with the closest being a 23-20 loss on Sept. 15. Montreal quarterback Cody Fajardo has struggled with turnovers this season. In the Alouettes’ first-round playoff win over Hamilton, he threw an interception and completed 15 of his 23 pass attempts. Running back William Stanback helped carry the load for Montreal against the Tiger-Cats, running 18 times for 95 yards.

Toronto has seen quarterback Chad Kelly grow into his role as a starter well. He threw for 4,125 yards with 23 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions. The Argonauts offense benefited from plenty of balance, as running back A.J. Ouellette also cracked 1,000 yards for the season. 

The over/under has been set at 50.5 points. Toronto is -485 on the moneyline, while Montreal is +370. Toronto was 14-4 against the spread. Montreal is 11-7-1 against the spread this season.

B.C. Lions at Winnipeg Blue Bombers

The Blue Bombers closed the year on a four-game winning streak to win the West Division by two games over the Lions. Winnipeg is eager to get back to the Grey Cup after losing a disappointing game in the final last year. The Blue Bombers won two meetings with B.C. in the regular season.

The most recent win was a 34-26 overtime victory in Week 18. The Blue Bombers have a tremendously well-rounded attack. Quarterback Zach Collaros battled through injuries this season and could still throw for 4,252 yards with 33 touchdowns. Winnipeg running back Brady Oliveira also turned in impressive numbers, finishing with 1,534 rushing years.

B.C. quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. has been dynamic this season but has struggled with interceptions. Against Calgary in the first round of the playoffs, he looked at his best. Adams threw for 413 yards with two touchdowns and ran for three scores. This should be a dynamic matchup between the West’s best teams.

The over/under has been set at 49.5 points. Winnipeg is -205 on the moneyline, while B.C. is +170. B.C. is 8-9-1 against the spread. The total has gone over in 12 of the Lions’ 19 games. The Blue Bombers are 11-7 against the spread.
