Writer’s Picks for the CFL Week 12 Action

B.C. Lions at Ottawa Redblacks

The B.C. Lions have been trending in the wrong direction over the past month.

Lions quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. was having a hard time with injuries.

In an interesting move, B.C. brought back former star quarterback Nathan Rourke last week.

Rourke had spent the last few seasons in the NFL.

But Rourke’s return was the happy reunion fans and management hoped for.

Instead, Rourke spent the post-game press conference apologizing for a poor performance following a 20-11 loss to Winnipeg.

It was a rough moment, but he should improve as he gets more time to practice.

The Lions’ odds as favorites to win the Grey Cup have tumbled from favorites to the second-best odds.

B.C. has lost four games in a row and is now +240 to lift the cup.

The Montreal Alouettes are the defending champions and are the hottest team in the league.

The Alouettes, who are the favorites are +205, are 9-1 so far this season and have one of the most well-rounded teams.

Winnipeg is starting to emerge as a dark horse.

After the Blue Bombers struggled mightily to start the year, the Blue Bombers’ strong defense has them as winners of two straight and moving within a game-and-a-half of first place.

Should Lions Be Favored?

The Ottawa Redblacks may not be the sexiest offensive team.

But the Redblacks play together well and have the grit to grind out victories.

Ottawa is on a five-game unbeaten streak.

The Redblacks picked up a strong win on the road last week, handing Calgary their first home loss last week.

Ottawa has also been excellent at home this year, producing a 4-0-1 record.

The Redblacks are sixth in the league in points scored at 25.2 points per game.

Ottawa has an effective defense, allowing the second-fewest yards per game.

It’s surprising that the Redblacks are 1.5-point underdogs against a free-falling B.C. team.

The Lions have lost four straight games.

During this stretch, B.C. has scored 16 or fewer points during the final three games.

The Lions are hoping that Rourke can return to his former level of play.

B.C. is 4-6 against the spread this season.

The Lions have too much talent on offense to see this trend continue all season.

It may not stop this weekend.

Back Ottawa to win this game at home.

Saskatchewan Roughriders at Toronto Argonauts

Kelly Ready to Return for Toronto

Toronto has been waiting all season to see if quarterback Chad Kelly would be allowed to return.

He was suspended in the offseason following his violation of the league’s gender-based violence policy.

Toronto’s quarterback play in his absence was inefficient at best.

The Argonauts started the season 5-4 when playing without Kelly, who was the league’s Most Outstanding Player last season.

Kelly threw for 4,123 yards and 23 touchdowns last season.

If he can match most of his production from last season, the Argonauts will be dangerous to make a run at the championship.

Toronto, which is a 2.5-point favorite over Saskatchewan this weekend, may be catching the Roughriders at the right time.

The Roughriders are on a four-game winless streak.

Saskatchewan is winless in five of its past six games, including a tie on the road at Ottawa.

Saskatchewan got good injury news last week when Trevor Harris returned from injury at quarterback.

The Roughriders only lost by three points to Montreal last week.

This one will be close, but Kelly’s return should energize Toronto.

Back the Argonauts to win by at least three points.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Is Winnipeg Back?

The Blue Bombers’ defense has been crushing over the past few weeks.

Winnipeg has held its last four opponents to 20 points or fewer.

The Blue Bombers have been a team that can be counted on to be in low-scoring affairs.

Winnipeg has seen nine of its past 10 games go under the total.

Over the past two weeks, the Blue Bombers saved their season with back-to-back wins over B.C. Winnipeg quarterback Zach Collaros has been up-and-down this season.

He has thrown nine interceptions against over five touchdowns.

Hamilton is in a tough spot in this game.

The Tiger-Cats have lost three straight games.

Hamilton’s defense has been playing rough.

The Tiger-Cats have allowed 33 or more points in all of those losses.

Hamilton quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell is dangerous.

Mitchell has thrown 19 touchdowns against 12 interceptions.

Winnipeg is a 9.5-point favorite in this game.

The over/under has been set at 48.5 points.

This match should come in under the total and Winnipeg will pick up a win.

Edmonton Elks at Montreal Alouettes

Montreal Needs to Shut Down Edmonton’s Momentum.

The Alouettes pulled out a narrow win last week on the road last week against the Roughriders.

But it wasn’t easy. Montreal had to score late to pull out a narrow, three-point victory.

The Aloeuttes have won four straight games and are 6.5-point favorites against Edmonton.

The Elks aren’t the team they were at the beginning of the season.

After suffering seven consecutive losses to start the season, Edmonton has figured things out.

The Elks have piled up three straight wins and have scored 33 points or more in all three victories.

Edmonton quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson passed for 234 yards and two touchdowns last week.

It was a nice performance for Bethel-Thompson, who snapped a three-game streak where he threw at least one interception.

Bethel-Thompson was able to avoid a turnover last week.

The Elks are 6-4 against the spread this season.

Edmonton has seen three of its past four games over the past month.

Back this game to go over the total.

Montreal should win this game, but the Elks’ offense has figured things out and they should be able to trouble the Alouettes’ defense.

When the two teams met in Week 2, Montreal was only able to escape with a three-point win.

This could be another instance where the two teams get locked in a close battle.

Previous Betting News

The CFL has seen some wild results over the past few weeks shake up the standings. With the race outside of the top three heating up, there will be some interesting maneuvering taking place before the postseason starts.

Let’s dive into the matchups happening in week twelve so you can bet against their CFL betting odds as their odds have shifted a fair bit since last week.

CFL Week 12 Odds and Betting Analysis for the Top Games | MyBookie Regular Season Football Preview

Canadian Football League Week 12 | Thursday, August 24th – Sunday August 27th, 2023

Montreal Alouettes at Winnipeg Blue Bombers

CFL Odds: Montreal +9 Winnipeg -9 / Montreal +285; Winnipeg -370 / O/U 48
Thursday, August 24th, 2023 at 8:30 p.m. ET
Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, Quebec, Canada

This is a good measuring stick for the Alouettes. Montreal has won four straight games against teams below them in the standings. That stretch was preceded by three losses to B.C., Toronto, and Winnipeg, which are the three best teams in the league.

The Alouettes have found a majority of their defense on defense. Montreal has the top passing defense, limiting opponents to 227.4 yards per game. The Alouettes also have the second-best scoring defense, averaging 19.9 points per game. Winnipeg is 8-2 overall this season but only 5-5 against the spread.

The Blue Bombers escaped with a one-point win over Calgary last week but will see the return of Zach Collaros at quarterback this week. Collaros has passed for 2,298 yards with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions this season.

CFL Week 12 Pick: Winnipeg Blue Bombers -9 | Bet Alouettes at Blue Bombers
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Game

Calgary Stampeders at Toronto Argonauts

CFL Odds: Calgary +9.5; Toronto -9.5 / Calgary +350; Toronto -490 / O/U 51
Friday, August 25th, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. ET
Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, Quebec, Canada

The Stampeders are the only team that has knocked off Toronto this season. Calgary scored a 20-7 upset win on Aug. 4. Repeating the feat will be a lot more difficult on the road.

The Stampeders have lost four of their past five games and have struggled to put up points. Calgary is sixth in the league by scoring 21.7 points per game. Toronto has scored 30 or more points in all seven of their victories this season.

The Argonauts lead the league by scoring 33.5 points per game. Toronto has a 7-1 record against the spread this season. The Argonauts won’t struggle to win this game, but Calgary will keep it close.

CFL Week 12 Pick: Calgary Stampeders +9.5 | Bet Stampeders at Argonauts
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Game

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at B.C. Lions

CFL Odds: Hamilton +10; B.C. -10 / Hamilton +371; B.C. -500/ O/U 46
Saturday, August 26th, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. ET
Commonwealth Stadium, Alberta, Canada

Vernon Adams Jr. has been one of the league’s more dynamic passes in the CFL this season. B.C. was limited at times last week because Adams’ mobility has been limited by an injury he suffered earlier in the season. Hamilton has struggled with inconsistent play at quarterback, being forced to start three different players due to injury, and hasn’t moved the ball well at all this year.

This matchup will be difficult for the Tiger-Cats because B.C. will punish any extra possessions that Hamilton provides with points. The Lions will score enough to push this one over the total.

CFL Week 12 Pick: Over 46 | Bet Tiger-Cats at Lions
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Game

Ottawa Redblacks at Edmonton Elks

CFL Odds: Ottawa PK; Edmonton PK / Ottawa +109; Edmonton -111 / O/U 45.5
Sunday, August 27th, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. ET
Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, Quebec, Canada

The Redblacks took a devastating one-point loss to Montreal last week, which marked their fourth consecutive loss. Ottawa has seen Dustin Crum be inconsistent under center. Crum passed for 130 yards and an interception in the loss last week. Crum has been held to under 200 yards passing in three of the past four weeks.

Ottawa is desperate, however, to grab another win. The Elks did win for the first time last week, but Edmonton still has plenty of issues of its own. Edmonton is 1-9 this season straight up and 4-6 against the spread. The Elks only scored seven points in their previous meeting with Ottawa and will likely struggle to score again.

CFL Week 12 Pick: Ottawa Redblacks PK | Bet Redblacks at Elks

Previous Betting News

With only three weeks remaining in the CFL season, the race to the postseason is in full gear. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers were the first team to clinch a playoff spot with their win over Edmonton last week, and now other clubs are looking to do the same. Here are my CFL Betting picks for Week 12!

2021 CFL Week 12 Betting Preview

Friday, October 22: Toronto Argonauts at Montreal Alouettes

Coming off a bye week, Toronto is feeling good having won three in a row, sitting atop the East Division. Switching from Nick Arbuckle to McLeod Bethel-Thompson at quarterback has rejuvenated the offense, and Toronto’s defense remains stellar and loaded from the top down. They’re on the road in this one, facing the second place Alouettes who are in the midst of a winning streak themselves.

Montreal has played Ottawa in their last two games, however, so hyping them up would be impetuous of me. The Alouettes addressed the injury to quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. by trading for veteran gunslinger Trevor Harris on Sunday, but that won’t be enough to beat the upstart Argos.

The Pick: Toronto Argonauts 27 – Montreal Alouettes 14

Saturday, October 23: Ottawa RedBlacks at Hamilton Tiger-Cats

While Ottawa has the worst record in the league at 2-8, Hamilton has fallen dropping two in a row at home. The Ticats now sit third in the East at 4-5, with an offense that has been stale all year long. QB Jeremiah Masoli is back healthy, but top receiver Brandon Banks is still not 100%. Until Banks gets right and looks like his former self, this team is not a Grey Cup contender. Luckily for Hamilton, they’re playing by far the most inferior team in the CFL this week, and its defense should suffocate Ottawa for 60 minutes straight.

The Pick: Hamilton Tiger-Cats 23 – Ottawa RedBlacks 6

Saturday, October 23: BC Lions at Winnipeg Blue Bombers

The Lions continue to be in a downward spiral, having lost their last three games. BC’s defense is starting to get picked apart, and Lucky Whitehead’s injury has completely impaired the Lions’ offense. It doesn’t get any easier this week as the Lions travel to Winnipeg to take on the 9-1 Bombers. The defending champs are unbeaten at home and Zach Collaros had the best game of his career in Week 9 against this Leos D, throwing for over 400 yards. These two teams are going in polar opposite directions, and it will show on Saturday.

The Pick: Winnipeg Blue Bombers 33 – BC Lions 9

Saturday, October 23: Saskatchewan Roughriders at Calgary Stampeders

Dave Dickenson’s Stamps are back to the dominant team that we’ve gotten used to knowing. Calgary did a pretty good number on BC last week, defeating them 39-10 on the road. Bo Levi Mitchell had the best game of his season, completing nearly 70% of his passes without turning the ball over. The Stampeders have also found a hidden gem in the backfield, with Ka’Deem Carey continuing to dominate on the ground. With the Stamps having won their first two contests against Saskatchewan this season, I’ll back the better quarterback and take home-field advantage in this one.

The Pick: Calgary Stampeders 23 – Saskatchewan 17

CFL Week 12 Odds, Preview and Picks

Previous Betting News

With the 2019 CFL season moving further into the second half of what has been a thrilling and mostly parity-laden season, it’s time to look at the trio of Week 12 matchups that are on tap for the coming week. Now, let’s find out who’s in action and which CFL Grey Cup hopefuls are offering the best betting value in their respective matchups.

CFL Week 12 Odds, Preview and Picks

Winnipeg Blue Bombers (8-2) at Saskatchewan Roughriders (6-3)

When: Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019 at 2:00 PM CDT
Where: Mosaic Stadium, Regina, SK
CFL Week 12 Odds: Saskatchewan -5.5 / Total: 48
Live Stream: CFL.ca

Winnipeg has won four straight including a 34-28 win over Edmonton last week as Chris Streveler threw for only 89 yards but rushed14 times for 95 yards and a score. The Blue Bombers are averaging a league-high 25.8 points per game.

Saskatchewan has won five straight including an emphatic 40-18 blowout of Ottawa last week as quarterback Cody Fajardo passed for 241 yards with one touchdown and another rushing score while running back William Powell rushed 11 times for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Key Trends

Blue Bombers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games in Week 12.
Roughriders are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up win.
Under is 10-2 in Blue Bombers last 12 games in Week 12.
Over is 5-0 in Roughriders last 5 games in September.

Prediction

Winnipeg might have the better record in this affair, but Saskatchewan is playing really well right now, which makes them my pick to win outright on their home field. However, I’m going with the Blue Bombers to cover the chalk in a flat-out thriller simply because I believe the spread in this contest should be closer to a field goal than the 5.5 points it currently is.

Pick: Saskatchewan 27 Edmonton 24

Toronto Argonauts (1-8) at Hamilton Tigercats (8-2)

When: Monday, Sept. 2, 2019 at 12:00 PM CDT
Where: Tim Hortons Field, Hamilton
CFL Week 12 Odds: Hamilton -11.5
Live Stream: CFL.ca

Toronto has dropped two straight including a 28-22 loss to Montreal last week despite getting 464 yards and two touchdown passes from quarterback Mcleod Bethel-Thompson.

Hamilton has won three straight including a hard-fought 13-10 win over BC last weekend despite the fact that quarterback Dane Evans was limited to 194 yards and two interceptions.

Key Trends

Argonauts are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 Monday games.
Tiger-Cats are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 Monday games.
Over is 5-0-1 in Argonauts last 6 games in Week 12.
Under is 4-0 in Tiger-Cats last 4 games following a straight up win.

Prediction

There is no way that Hamilton manages to lose to one-win Toronto. Not only that, but the Tigercats are the picks to win this one in a rout against an Argonauts team that is ranked last in the CFL in scoring (15.3 ppg).

Pick: Hamilton 40 Toronto 27

Edmonton Eskimos (6-4) at Calgary Stampeders (5-4)

When: Monday, Sept. 2, 2019 at 3:30 PM CDT
Where: McMahon Stadium, Calgary
CFL Week 12 Odds: Calgary -3.5
Live Stream: CFL.ca

Edmonton had their four-game winning streak snapped in their 34-28 Week 11 loss to Winnipeg. The Eskimos did not score a touchdown until late in the fourth quarter on a DaVaris Daniels 75-yard touchdown reception. Edmonton kicked seven field goals in the loss as drives stalled seven times between the 20 and 37-yard lines.

Calgary has dropped two straight including their 40-34 Week 11 overtime loss against Montreal despite the fact that Nick Arbuckle threw for 370 yards and four touchdowns in the loss while Reginald Begelton caught eight passes for 173 yards and four touchdowns.

Key Trends

Edmonton is 2-6 ATS in its last 8 on the road
The UNDER has cashed in 8 of the Eskimos last 11 on the road
Calgary is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 at home
The UNDER has cashed in 5 of the Stampeders last 7

Prediction

I like Calgary here to get the win at home and narrow ATS cover against an Edmonton team that has gone an uninspiring 2-3 on the road this season. The Stampeders are 3-2 on their home field and are the pick to narrowly cover the chalk simply because they are playing at home against a team they match up quite well against.

Pick: Calgary 27 Edmonton 23

Previous Betting News

Montreal kicks off CFL Week 12 with a game versus Ottawa on Friday, August 31. CFL skips Saturday before playing a single game on Sunday, Winnipeg at Saskatchewan. Monday’s games are Edmonton at Calgary and Toronto at Hamilton. Keep reading for CFL odds, analysis, and picks for Canadian Football Week 12!

CFL Week 12 Odds & Predictions

Friday, August 31

Montreal Alouettes +16 ½ at Ottawa RedBlacks -16 ½

On August 24, Montreal beat Toronto 25 to 22. Quarterback Antonio Pipken was 22 of 32 for 303 yards. He didn’t throw a TD pass, but he only threw a single interception. The Alouettes won their second game of the season. They won’t win their third versus the RedBlacks. Ottawa punished Montreal 28 to 18 earlier this season. They beat Montreal 24 to 17 on August 11.

Ottawa will beat Montreal again, but they won’t cover the spread. The RedBlacks are a terrible 1-3 ATS in home games. Overall, they’re 4-5 ATS. Back Montreal against the spread, if you play it on the moneyline, go with Ottawa.

CFL Week 12 Pick: Montreal Alouettes

Sunday, Sep. 2

Winnipeg Blue Bombers +3 at Saskatchewan Rough Riders -3

Winnipeg has lost 2 straight. Ottawa dominated the Blue Bombers 44-22 while Calgary beat Winnipeg by 13, 39-26. Winnipeg has an awful 1-3 ATS road record.

Saskatchewan is 2-0 straight up and ATS in their last 2. They upset Calgary 40-27 on August 19. They followed up the big upset with a workmanlike 24-21 win over BC. The Rough Riders appear to be on a roll, but they’re only 3-2 ATS at home.

Winnipeg could turn it around on Sep. 2.

CFL Week 12 Pick: Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Monday, Sep. 3

Edmonton Eskimos +7 at Calgary Stampeders -7

Calgary gives 7 points to Edmonton in Monday’s first battle. It’s tough to take the points on the Eskimos, though. Edmonton has gone 1-2 SU and 1-2 ATS in their last 3 games. Calgary is only 3-2 ATS at home.

To be fair, the Stampeders have faced big spreads. Calgary covered -8.5 points versus Winnipeg at home in their last. They should beat Edmonton by more than a touchdown and extra point.

CFL Week 12 Pick: Calgary Stampeders

Toronto Argonauts +7 ½ at Hamilton Tiger-Cats -7 ½

Toronto has played well against the spread in their last 3. The Argonauts are 2-1 ATS. Montreal beat Toronto on August 24. That’s why the odds makers set Hamilton a close to -8 favorite.

Hamilton shouldn’t beat Toronto by more than 6 points. The Argos will bounce back from the embarrassing SU loss to Montreal while Hamilton might regress after the 25-24 SU win over Edmonton.

Hamilton is 1-3 ATS at home. Toronto looks like a good play.

CFL Week 12 Pick: Toronto Argonauts
