Betting 2024 CFL Season

Week 19 of the CFL season is here, and there will be four games taking place over the next few days.

Playoff races continue to heat up, and there have actually been a pair of teams eliminated from postseason contention.

Here is a look at the four games in Week 19, and also a quick look at the current odds to win the Grey Cup.

Writer’s Picks to Win Big in Week 19 of the Season

Toronto Argonauts vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers -3.5

Friday, October 11th, 2024

One of the best games of the weekend will be taking place in Winnipeg as the Blue Bombers are hosting the Toronto Argonauts.

Winnipeg has been terrific all season long, but they are hosting a team that is desperate to win.

Toronto knows that they need to get some momentum before the postseason starts, but they just haven’t been great this year.

Bet on the Blue Bombers to not only win this game, but also to cover the spread.

CFL Pick: Winnipeg

Edmonton Elks vs. Calgary Stampeders PK

Saturday, October 12th, 2024

Edmonton and Calgary are not going to factor into the postseason race this season, and it’s now time to look ahead to next season.

The betting line for this matchup is set at a pick’em for this matchup, and it’s hard to decide between the teams.

Edmonton has been better on the road, but going with the home team and backing the Stampeders is the way to go in this one.

CFL Pick: Calgary

BC Lions vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders -1.5

Saturday, October 12th, 2024

The BC Lions have not been playing their best football of late, but they did enough early in the year to be comfortably in the playoff race.

The Lions are in Saskatchewan this weekend, and this should allow the Lions a chance to get going.

There will be some big plays in this game, and that’s the style that BC likes to play.

Look for the Lions to win this game, and you can bet on the moneyline in this matchup.

CFL Pick: BC Lions

Ottawa Redblacks vs. Montreal Alouettes -4.5

Monday, October 14th, 2024

It’s been a terrific season for the Montreal Alouettes, and they are going to be looking to cap it off with a Grey Cup later on in the year.

There is still some work to be done in the regular season, and Montreal will be home this weekend.

Ottawa is a solid team as well, but they just don’t have the firepower to keep pace in this matchup.

Look for this to be a big win for Montreal as they just continue to win big games.

CFL Pick: Montreal

Odds to Win Grey Cup

The odds to win the Grey Cup have been changing throughout the year, and it’s starting to look as if only two teams have a chance.

That could always change once the playoffs begin, but the teams on top are there for a reason.

The Montreal Alouettes are not only the best team in the league, but they have the best Grey Cup odds at +165.

Winnipeg is still in the mix at +225, and they are going to try to keep the pressure on all year.

How Do Point Spreads Work in CFL Betting? Let’s Find Out

In CFL betting, a point spread is used to create a competitive betting environment between two teams by assigning a value to the favored team.

When you place a bet against the spread, you’re betting on the outcome of a game while factoring in that spread value.

To understand how point spreads work in CFL betting, let’s look at some examples from this weekend’s games in Week 19:

1. Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Point Spread: Winnipeg is favored by 4.5 points.
This means that for a bet on Winnipeg to win, they need to win the game by more than 4.5 points.
If they win by exactly 5 or more, your bet is a winner.
Conversely, if you bet on Hamilton, they either need to win outright or lose by fewer than 4.5 points for your bet to pay off.

2. Calgary Stampeders at BC Lions

Point Spread: BC is favored by 7.5 points.
If you bet on BC, they must win by 8 points or more.
A bet on Calgary would be a win if they lose by 7 points or less or win the game.

3. Saskatchewan Roughriders at Edmonton Elks

Point Spread: Saskatchewan is favored by 2.5 points.
For a bet on Saskatchewan to be successful, they need to win by at least 3 points.
If you back Edmonton, they can either win the game or lose by 2 points or less for your bet to be successful.

Understanding these point spreads is crucial for making informed bets.

They not only indicate which team is favored to win but also help in assessing the potential risk and reward of your bets.

Updated 2022 Grey Cup Betting Odds and Top Matches Heading Into Week 19 of the CFL Regular Season

TIER 1: Ticket punched

Winnipeg Blue Bombers: +130

They have been the favorite for 18 weeks in a row. They have already clinched the West division title game. The season is not over, and they are two wins away from a three-peat. It seems unlikely that any teams dethrone them.

Calgary Stampeders: +400

The Stampeders have clinched a spot in the postseason. This team is very scary and could make some noise. But can they beat Winnipeg? They did not do it at any point in the regular season.

Toronto Argonauts: +450

Toronto is currently the leader in the East and are the only team to clinch postseason contention. However, it is uncertain of their seeding. Do not bet on them until after their series with Montréal. It remains to be seen if they truly are the best in the east.

B.C Lions: +450

BC has punched their ticket to the playoffs. However, the Lions have been awfully banged up, and the defense seems to be on the ropes right now. But, star quarterback Nathan Rourke could potentially comeback from injury, thus making them a large threat out of the west with him back on the roster.

TIER 2: In the hunt

Montréal Alouettes: +1000

The Als fumbled their opportunity to clinch last week. They can still do it this week, and it is highly unlikely Montreal misses the postseason. The Als have a key series against Toronto and even though the value is great, hold off on any east division team.

Saskatchewan Roughriders: +2000

If the Roughriders keep up this pace, they could have a chance to be the crossover team in the playoffs. This team has been inconsistent but are still one game ahead from the team behind them.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats: +2500

They currently stand one game back of a playoff spot. It remains to be seen if they get it or lose it in the crossover. Do not bet on this team, regardless.

TIER 3: Outside looking in

Ottawa Redblacks: +20000 and Edmonton Elks: +20000

Are you surprised? If you read these weekly, you shouldn’t be. Hockey season is starting, and now these cities have something to be excited about!

Week 18 Best Bets

Montréal Alouettes (-3.5) vs Ottawa Redblacks

Ottawa has had Montréals number this year, but the Als now understand that they need this win. The team, despite critics saying they are falling apart, can get on a hot streak at the right time yet again!

Winnipeg Blue Bombers (-2) vs. BC Lions

BC is very hurt this week. Even with the potential of starters on Winnipeg being sat, it is unlikely that will happen, and the Bombers will chance regular season history on the route to postseason immortality.

Previous Betting News

With three weeks of regular season action remaining in the 2019 CFL regular season, it’s time to offer up a pair of expert picks on two Saturday Week 19 matchups that both have the look of value-packed pairings that could help you increase your annual betting bankroll in a big way. Now, let’s find out who’s in action and which teams are offering the best value against their CFL Odds.

CFL Week 19 Odds, Preview and Picks

Ottawa Redblacks (3-12) at Hamilton Tigercats (12-3)

  • When: Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 4:00 PM ET
  • Where: Tim Horton Field, Hamilton, ON
  • CFL Week 19 Odds: Hamilton -17.5 / Total: 51
  • Live Stream: CFL.ca

The Ottawa RedBlacks have lost eight straight games including a 28-21 road loss to Toronto last weekend. The RedBlacks are averaging just 17.3 points per game while allowing a whopping 30.0 points per contest defensively. Ottawa has gone a dismal 1-6 ATS over their last seven games.

Hamilton has won three straight and six of their last seven games including an emphatic 42-12 smackdown of Edmonton last weekend. The Tiger-Cats rank first in scoring (30.6 ppg) and an equally impressive first in points allowed (19.2 ppg). Hamilton has won two straight in this series including a 21-7 win in Ottawa in August.

The Tiger-Cats are 4-0-2 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up win, 5-0-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 home games. Despite those concrete ATS trends, the RedBlacks are a perfect 6-0 ATS in their last 6 road dates against Hamilton and 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings overall. Nevertheless, I’m going with red-hot Hamilton to get the big win to keep their momentum going as they get set for the quickly approaching playoffs.

Pick: Hamilton 35 Ottawa 17

Winnipeg Blue Bombers (10-6) at Calgary Stampeders (10-5)

  • When: Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 7:00 PM ET
  • Where: McMahon Stadium, Calgary, AB
  • CFL Week 19 Odds: Calgary -7 / Total: 50.5
  • Live Stream: CFL.ca

Winnipeg managed to snap a three-game losing streak by beating Montreal 35-24 last weekend. The Blue Bombers are ranked a stellar second in scoring (27.9 ppg) and an identical second in points allowed (21.5 ppg). Calgary has won five of six and bounced back from a loss in their previous game to take down Saskatchewan 30-28 last weekend despite failing to cover the chalk as a 3.5-point home favorite.

Winnipeg picked up a hard-fought 26-24 win at home on August 8, but these two rivals have alternated SU wins and losses over their last six meetings. While the Blue Bombers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up win and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in October. Calgary has gone 5-1 ATS in their last 6 against their Western Conference counterparts and I believe the Stampeders are going to take care of business at home in this Week 19 matchup, although I’m going with Winnipeg to cover the spread in another thriller between these two.

Pick: Calgary 27 Winnipeg 24
