The race for the ACC Atlantic Division could be decided early, as two of the Atlantic’s top teams square off on Saturday, as the #5 Clemson Tigers travel to Wake Forest to take on the #21 Demon Deacons. Both teams come into this game with unblemished records. Even though Wake Forest won the Atlantic Division last season, Clemson still got the best of them, beating them 48-27. Wake Forest will be looking for revenge this weekend.
Let’s take a look at each of the teams, and then we’ll give you our prediction for this huge ACC matchup so you can bet against their NCAAF Lines.
The Battle for the ACC Atlantic in Week 4 | Clemson Tigers at Wake Forest
Clemson Tigers
After a disappointing 2021 season, the Clemson Tigers are looking to get back to the top of the ACC. Clemson’s offense could be an issue again this season, much as it was last season. After looking great in Trevor Lawrence’s absence in 2020, quarterback DJ Uiagalelei didn’t play well last season, and he hasn’t really looked good this season either. Although he has plenty of weapons, including running back Will Shipley, and star freshman wide receiver Antonio Williams, the offense just doesn’t seem to be in sync. We’ll see if that can change this week.
Clemson has once again been reliant on a very strong defense. The Tigers defense isn’t as strong as it has been in the past, but it’s still one of the better defenses in the ACC. Thus far, the Tigers are giving up an average of 14 points per game, while allowing just over 300 yards per contest.
Clemson is coming off of a 48-20 victory over Louisiana Tech. The Tigers racked up over 500 yards of offense in their victory. If the offense can play as well as it did on Saturday, Clemson should have a great shot at winning this one.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons have quietly become one of the top teams in college football. Sam Hartman is one of the top quarterbacks in college football. He is Wake Forest’s all-time leading passer, and he is very efficient. He leads a high-powered offense that can beat you on the ground or in the air.
Defensively, Wake Forest isn’t as strong as Clemson. They’re giving up nearly 24 points per game, while giving up over 315 yards per game. We’ll see how they handle the Clemson offense that has been looking better every week.
Prediction
Wake Forest hasn’t lost a game at home since the 2020 season. That streak almost ended last week, as the Deacons survived a scare from Liberty, winning by a final score of 37-36. Clemson has won 13 straight games against Wake Forest, including six games at Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons would love to end Clemson’s streak, and that would help them get to the top of the ACC Atlantic Division once again this season.
Clemson comes to Truist Field as a 7.5-point favorite. Neither team has played a very competitive schedule thus far in the season. While we like Clemson to win the game and end Wake Forest’s home winning streak, we don’t think that they’ll cover the spread. The Tigers are 1-9 against the spread in their last 10 September games. We think Clemson will sneak out of Winston-Salem with a three-point win.
