Stanford at Washington

Stanford went 9-5 to finish second to Washington in the Pac-12 North last year.  The Cardinal however, return starting quarterback K.J. Costello, superstar running back Bryce Love, their top four receivers and four of their five starting offensive linemen. Costello took over for former starter Keller Chryst last season and led Stanford to wins over Washington and Notre Dame and a Pac-12 North championship. Love is simply a NFL superstar waiting in the wings. Washington has a pair of Heisman Trophy candidates back in quarterback Jake Browning and running back Myles Gaskin, not to mention a defense that could be their best ever under widely respected head coach Chris Petersen. Penn State at Michigan

Superstar running back Saquon Barkley is off to the NFL, but Penn State has another Heisman Trophy candidate in quarterback Trace McSorley. Penn State lost a lot from last year’s team including wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton, tight end Mike Gesicki and nine starters on the defensive side of the ball. The good news is that head coach James Franklin has a ton of talent waiting in the wings and now, a perennial winning program. At Michigan, Jim Harbaugh is counting on Ole Miss transfer quarterback Shea Patterson to lead his program to new heights in 2018 after an uninspiring 8-5 mark last season. Defensively, Michigan should be powerful once again under Harbaugh’s schemes. The Wolverines have an All-America inside linebacker in Devin Bush and another All-America candidate in fellow linebacker Khaleke Hudson. The Wolverines had the best pass defense in the country a year ago. Nebraska at Ohio State

No J.T. Barrett means the Buckeyes will have a first-time starter under center – and that means the Buckeyes could struggle after going 12-2 last season. More importantly, Ohio State is suddenly looking at a future without head coach Urban Meyer after his alleged failure to report on his assistant coaches’ ongoing domestic violence issues. Nebraska is clearly going to be better under former Central Florida head coach and alum, Scott Foster, but I believe it’s going to take a least another full year for him to start bringing in the kinds of players he wants. The Buckeyes will get the win at home here, although it could be a lot closer than anyone ever suspects. 2018 NCAA Football Week 10 Pick: Ohio State 31 Nebraska 27

Texas A&M at Auburn

Texas A&M is heading in a new direction in 2018 under former Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher. He’ll go with either Nick Starkel or Kellen Mond as his starting quarterback, but he has a star in fleet-footed junior running back Trayveon Williams. Defensively, Fisher will be depending on senior end Landis Durham to duplicate or exceed the 10.5 sacks he recorded a year ago. While getting more contributions out of junior linebacker Tyrel Dodson, sophomore safety Derrick Tucker and his pair of proven defensive tackles Kingsley Keke and Justin Madubuike. Not only did Auburn go 10-4 last season but they also beat both of the participants in last season’s national championship, Georgia and Alabama, during the regular season. Now, the Tigers will rely on the talents of quarterback Jarrett Stidham after he came up just short of breaking  Auburn’s single-season record for passing yards in 2017. The loss of starting running back and SEC Player of the Year Kerryon Johnson will hurt and they have a difficult schedule in 2018. Alabama at LSU

Alabama won its second national championship in three years and fifth national championship overall under incomparable head coach Nick Saban last season. Alabama will be powerful once again this coming season as they usher in a new class of superstar recruits, mostly on the defensive side of the ball. Saban has a difficult, but ‘pleasant’  decision to make at quarterback where incumbent starter Jalen Hurts will duke it out against national championship hero Tua Tagavailoa. No matter who’s on the field, Alabama is going to be elite again in 2018. The LSU Tigers went 9-4 a year ago while suffering a couple of head-scratching losses to Troy and Notre Dame in the Citrus Bowl. Now, the Tigers want to reach the double-digit win plateau in 2018, but the loss they’re going to take at home in this Week 10 matchup against the crimson Tide won’t be a game that helps them get there.
