I’m completely stunned that Wisconsin is getting overlook as a legitimate CFP participant heading into 2018, but I believe they will be. Despite going a stellar 13-1 last season, the Badgers were ridiculed because of their lack of quality opponents on their schedule. No matter, the Badgers should be as good as any team in the country thanks to their perennially powerful defense, supremely gifted sophomore running back Jonathan Taylor and what should be an even more improved quarterback in Alex Holbrook. Penn State will be good again in 2018 simply because James Franklin has built up the program beautifully. The Nittany Lions have a boatload of young talent and a Heisman Trophy contender in quarterback Trace McSorley. However, Penn State also lost a bunch of starters on defense and there top three skill position players from last season, starting with all-world running back Saquon Barkley. South Carolina at Florida

South Carolina had a solid 9-4 season a year ago under head coach Will Muschamp to finish second to Georgia in the SEC East. Quarterback Jake Bentley, who has started the last 20 games and thrown for 4,214 yards in that span, is back as is gifted wide receiver Deebo Samuel, but outside that pair, there are question marks everywhere – especially on defense. Florida is starting anew under first-year head coach Dan Mullen, but the former Gators assistant has plenty of homegrown talent to build on. Mullen still needs to identify his starting quarterback and it the edge at that position that I believe will drive South Carolina to the absolutely huge road win I this Week 11 SEC showdown. 2018 NCAA Football Week 11 Pick: South Carolina 28 Florida 27

Auburn at Georgia

Auburn went 10-4 last season and beat, both Georgia and Alabama along the way, but that’s one of the main reasons I like Georgia to extract some revenge in this contest. Yes, the Tigers have a Heisman trophy candidate in quarterback Jarrett Stidham and yes they have a rock-solid defense, but Georgia has its own gifted signal-caller in true sophomore Jake Fromm and what should be another powerful defense under head coach Kirby Smart despite the fact that they lost an All-American in linebacker Roquan Smith. The Bulldogs only need to take one more step to become national champs after going 13-2 last season. Ohio State at Michigan State

Yes, Ohio State went 12-2 in 2017 to win the Big Ten East, but the Buckeyes suddenly have a boatload of question marks just prior to the 2018 campaign. Can  quarterback Dwayne Haskins fill the departed J.T. Barrett’s ample shoes? More importantly, will the Buckeyes survive the headline-grabbing drama that is surrounding head coach Urban Meyer, who may or may not be finished at the school. Ohio State has a pair of stars on the D-line in Nick Bosa, but they also lost All-American cornerback Denzel Ward to the NFL draft, so there are questions galore for the Buckeyes right now. Michigan State went 10-3 last season to finish second behind Ohio State in the Big Ten East under widely respected head coach Mark Dantonio, but I’m thinking the Spartans have the look of a team that could be even better in 2018. Quarterback Brian Lewerke is a dual-threat signal-caller that will lead an offense that has a whopping 10 returning starters, including two receivers that caught over 50 passes apiece a year ago. Running backs LJ Scott and Connor Heyward look like they could form a special duo and the Spartans return nine starters on defense as well from a team that finished seventh in the nation overall a year ago. Oklahoma State at Oklahoma

Oklahoma State is without star quarterback Mason Rudolph and gifted wide receiver James Washington, so head coach Mike Gundy will also have his work cut out for him in 2018. He’ll have to choose between four candidates at quarterback, but whoever starts has a pair of gifted skill positions stars in running back Justice Hill, an All-Big 12 selection in 2017 that led the conference in rushing with 1,467 yards. Wide receiver Jalen McCleskey has 152 career catches for 1,710 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns as a secondary option. With quarterback Baker Mayfield, left tackle Orlando Brown and tight end Mark Andrews all bolting for the greener pastures of the NFL, second-year Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley will have his hands full in 2018. Yes, he’s got a former five-star recruit in quarterback Kyler Murray and a gifted running back in Rodney Anderson, but how they perform this coming season remains a mystery at this point.
