Along the way, the Wildcats beat UCLA for the first time since 2011, blew out a top 15-ranked Washington State squad and reached the top 25 for the first time since 2014.
Now, as they get set for the upcoming 2018 campaign, the Wildcats could be even more dangerous under first-year head coach Kevin Sumlin after the team parted ways with former head coach Rich Rodriguez because of allegations of misconduct and a lawsuit filed by a former staff member. If there’s one thing Sumlin can do, it’s coach offense and he’s got a supremely gifted superstar athlete in Tate who set the record for FBS quarterback rushing yards in 2017 with 1,411. Tate is also a capable passer and a definite play-maker. The Cats have a bunch of question marks on defense, but Tate is a preseason All-American and could carry his team to brand new heights in 2018.
Washington State went 9-4 last season but they suffered a big blow thanks to the graduation of record-setting QB Luke Falk and now head coach Mike Leach needs to identify his replacement in the worst way in order to make his high-powered offense go.
Gardner Minshew, a grad transfer from East Carolina is looking like the leader to get the job, but that’s not all. Leach also ha question marks on defense, due to the loss of dominating lineman Hercules Mata’afa and, more importantly, defensive coordinator Alex Grinch who turned the program’s defense completely around in his three years at the school.
Washington might be playing at home in this Week 12 Pac-12 pairing, but Khalil Tate give the Wildcats a huge edge and when combined with the fact that Washington will have a first-time starter at quarterback, I see Arizona winning outright.

The Miami Hurricanes got back on the national map in a big way in 2017 by going 10-3 and winning the ACC Coastal division crown. The Canes were in line for a good shot at a berth in the four-team CFP late in the season before suffering a trio of costly losses. Still there’s a lot of hope for Miami moving forward under head coach Mark Richt. The biggest decision the Hurricanes head coach has to make is at quarterback where 2017 starter Malik Rosier is not guaranteed to retain his starting spot unless he can become more accurate and efficient. Richt will go with one of three freshmen in N’Kosi Perry, Cade Weldon or Jarren Williams (true freshman) if Rosier can’t get it done with Perry being the likely choice.
