NCAA Football Week 14 Odds, Overview & Top Picks

Written by on November 26, 2018

There was some interesting coaching news around the country this weekend. Texas Tech decided to part ways with the popular Kliff Kingsbury, while USC chose to keep rather unpopular Clay Helton even though the Trojans finished 5-7. Go figure. Here’s a look at two games this weekend with Mybookie Sportsbook odds.

NCAA Football Week 14 Odds Overview & Top Picks

No. 9 Texas vs. No. 5 Oklahoma (-7.5)

  • When: Saturday, noon ET (ABC)

It’s the Big 12 Championship Game from AT&T Stadium outside Dallas. Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby has to be rooting for the Sooners because they are the only chance the Big 12 has at getting a team into the College Football Playoff. OU isn’t a sure thing even with a victory – should things go chalk this weekend, it likely comes down to the Sooners or Ohio State. Texas isn’t going to the playoff even if it wins 70-0.

OU got here with a wild 59-56 win at West Virginia. Kyler Murray threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score and No. 6 Oklahoma scored two defensive TDs. Murray likely will finish second in this year’s Heisman voting. He has accounted for 48 total touchdowns this season (37 passing, 11 rushing).

It was the highest-scoring game in Oklahoma-West Virginia series history (115 points), surpassing the 99 combined points scored in the 2012 game in Morgantown. The 115 points were also the third most in OU history. OU improved to 7-0 against West Virginia since WVU joined the Big 12 in 2012. Oklahoma has won 17 straight November games dating back to Nov. 8, 2014. Since the start of the 2000 season, the Sooners are 61-11 (.847) in the month.

In Big 12 play, the Sooners lead the conference with 612.8 yards of offense per game. OU has gained at least 500 yards of offense against every Big 12 opponent this season.

Texas escaped Kansas on Friday 24-17. UT was led offensively by Sam Ehlinger’s three touchdowns, while the defense came up big down the stretch with stops to secure the victory. The Longhorns finished the regular season with a 9-3 mark, their most wins in the regular season since the 2009 season. It will be the Longhorns’ sixth appearance in the Big 12 Championship Game all-time, but its first since 2009.

Texas handed OU its only loss on Oct. 6 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, 48-45. UT was up three TDs in the fourth before OU rallied to tie. Freshman Cameron Dicker’s 40-yard field goal with nine seconds left was the winner. Ehlinger was 24-of-35 passing for 314 yards and ran 19 times for 72 yards. He converted third-and-3 on Texas’ final drive with a 4-yard keeper, and his 8-yard draw to the middle of the field set up the winning kick in the highest-scoring game in the 113-game series. Oklahoma fired defensive coordinator Mike Stoops after the loss.

Memphis at No. 7 Central Florida (-5)

  • When: Saturday, 3:30 PM ET (ABC)

It’s the American Athletic Conference title game from Orlando. UCF completed its second straight unbeaten regular season with a 38-10 win at South Florida. UCF extended its win streak to 24 games, which leads the nation, and is a program and American Athletic Conference record. The Knights also extended their program record road winning streak to nine games. UCF now has a streak of 24 games of scoring 30 points or more, which leads the nation. The Knights have now forced at least one turnover in all 11 games this season and the last 30 games, dating back to 2016, a streak that leads the nation.

UCF looks like a good pick for NCAA Football Week 14.

The loss was costly, though, as superstar QB McKenzie Milton suffered a serious knee injury and his season is over. Since the start of last season, Milton has been responsible for 79 total TDs, most in FBS. Milton is 22-0 as UCF’s starter since the start of last season. Milton set single-season school records in 2017 with 4,037 passing yards and 37 passing touchdowns. He is the only UCF QB ever to throw for 4,000 yards in a season. His back up is freshman Darriel Mack.

It was unlikely that UCF got into the College Football Playoff regardless but now there’s almost no shot. CFP executive director Bill Hancock said this about Milton’s injury: The committee does consider injuries that may have affected a team’s performance during the season. Obviously, UCF continued to play well after McKenzie left the ballgame. The committee also does not project what might happen next week. They only evaluate what has happened to this point in the season.”

UCF beat Memphis in last year’s AAC title game, in a 62-55 double OT shootout. Milton threw for 494 yards and five scores while rushing for another TD. The Knights also beat Memphis earlier this year 31-30. Milton threw for 296 yards to help the Knights to their 12th straight win over the Tigers. Milton’s 7-yard touchdown with 12:14 left gave UCF its first lead. The Knights trailed 30-14 with 2:04 left in the first half.
