Which team has the better chance of winning the Big 12? Texas or Oklahoma?

Usually, this would be a difficult questions to answer. The odds imply this is a difficult question to answer, but in reality, the answer is easy. Oklahoma will run the table and win the Big 12.

After a highly successful 2018, Texas must rebuild its offensive line and almost its entire defense. The Longhorns look good on paper, but they’ve always been a team that struggles versus top opponents. This season, they could fail to win more than 8 games.

Oklahoma should go undefeated and make it to the College Football Playoff. Not only did Lincoln Riley hire one of the top defensive coordinators in the nation, Alex Grinch, but he found a way to replace Kyler Murray at quarterback. Former Alabama starter Jalen Hurts will pilot Oklahoma’s offense. Don’t be surprised if Hurts makes it three years in a row that a Sooners quarterback wins the Heisman. That’s how great Hurts should be in Riley’s system.

Which team among West Virginia, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, and TCU can win the Big 12?

Oklahoma State and TCU have a chance every year to win the championship, but the team to really consider is Iowa State.

The Cyclones return all 5 players along the offensive line. That should help last year redshirt freshman starting quarterback Brock Purdy to improve big time. The real reason to give Iowa State a shot is due to their excellent defensive line. If the secondary and linebackers gel, the Cyclones could field the best defense in the Big 12 and one of the top units in the nation.

Does Texas Tech, Baylor, Kansas State, or Kansas have any shot of winning the Big 12?

Probably not although it’s difficult to write off Kansas State. The Wildcats seem to surprise every season, but Oklahoma is so far and away the best team in the Big 12 that Kansas State would have to really surprise, really step it up, have any shot.

Texas Tech will field an excellent offense while Baylor will be on the improve. Kansas doesn’t even care that much about football. However, the Jayhawks offer +5000 odds to win a conference with only 10 teams. If you think Baylor or Texas Tech can beat Oklahoma for the title, why not put a few bucks on Kansas as well and back all three big time longshots?

Seriously, though, the Big 12 trophy should go to Oklahoma this season with Iowa State providing a possible upset.
